Find out where your customers are(Materials needed: butcher paper, Find Out Where Your Customers are worksheet, marker, pencils)

Grandparents, neighbors, teachers, etc… Write down the girls responses on butcher paper for all the girls to see. Talk to some customers(Materials needed: Talk To Some Customers worksheet, cookie menu, pencils)

Now that they have a list of customers, the girls need to know how to talk to them about what they are selling? What are the different kind of cookies, what do they cost, what are you doing with the money?

(15 min) Have helpers pass out cookie menu. In a group go over each Girl Scout cookie.(use cookie box props or pictures). Ask the girls if they know any facts about the cookies. Teach them some facts from the cookie fact sheet.

(15 min) Next, pass out the worksheet and go over each question with the girls and help them fill out their worksheet.

Teaching Tips: Some girls will finish faster than others, have girls that finish their worksheet first, go and help other girls.

Sign In/Introduction(5 min) Hi my name is____________________________.

Practice handling money and making change(Materials Needed: Play money, scissors, zip lock bags)

(15-20 min) Pass out sheet of play money. Have girls cut out their money and put it in a zip lock bag. Ask girls how many boxes of cookies can they buy with $5, $10? How many boxes could they buy if they used all of their play money?

Teaching Tips: If some of the girls don’t finish cutting out their money, they can fold it up and put it in their bag to cut later. Remind girls to clean up after themselves. Show them the proper way to carry scissors.

4Role Play Good Customer Relations(Materials Needed: Cookie Box props, play money, finished worksheets)

(5 min) As a group, go over the steps taken so far. Who are your customers? What do your customers want to know? How do you talk to them? If a customer asked for your advice on what cookie to buy, what would you say and why?

(25 min) Split girls into groups of 2 or 3, its time to role play buying and selling cookies! Each group will get boxes of cookies to use as props to sell to each other, and they will use their play money. Remind the girls to refer to the worksheets they have been working on to practice role playing. Example: If they want to sell cookies to a grandparent, then one of them can pretend to be the grandma, while the other girl tries to sell her cookies, asking questions a grandma might ask. Remind the girls to take turns being the buyer and the seller.

Teaching Tips: If you have a group of girls that are shy, try partnering them up with girls that are not

Snack time (10 min)

Step

5Thank your Customers!(Materials needed: Thank you card template, scissors, crayons)

(20-30 min) What do you say to a customer every time, even if they don’t buy cookies? We say THANK YOU! Have girls decorate their own set of thank you cards to pass out to their customers. Pass out Thank you card template, have girls decorate and cut out cards. Cut out cards can be placed in the same zip lock as the play money.

Teaching Tips: If the girls run out of time to cut out their cards, that’s ok. They can cut them out at home.
