Twenty-nine classmates gathered to celebrate and a memorial was set up for five classmates that have passed away. There was a total of 63 in the graduating class. The evening started with a social hour, followed by a delicious buffet and then a dance. Everyone had a great time, some of the people attending had not been together since graduating in 1975. Class of 1975 holds 36th reunion By Rin Porter The Albert Murphy family of Ward Township was one of the many families who came to Todd County in the 1860s, 1870s, and 1880s from Randolph County, Indiana. Albert Murphy was the son of Robert Murphy and Elizabeth Duvall, who were both born in Ohio in about 1804. Both of their families had been in the U.S. for over a hundred years. They moved to Indiana in time for Albert’s birth in December 1834. Robert and Elizabeth would have eight more children who lived. Elizabeth died following the birth of her last child, a son John, in 1847. Albert Murphy, the third child in the family, married Ellen Polly, the daughter of a doctor, Barnhill Polly, in 1857 in Randolph County. In 1860, the U.S. Census shows them living there. In August 1862, Albert Murphy joined Company F of the 69th Indiana Infantry, and served in the Civil War until he was discharged. The unit saw action in the Battle of Richmond, Kentucky, on August 30, 1862, where they were captured, held, and then released. In late November they left for Memphis, Tennessee. They fought under General Sherman in Mississippi for the remainder of 1862 and most of 1863, until November 1863 when they moved to Texas, then Louisiana, then back to Mississippi, then to Florida and southern Alabama where they remained until July 1865. Private Albert Murphy returned to Randolph County, Indiana, and lived there with his family for the next few years . They ap pear on the U.S. Census of 1870. But in the early 1870s, they, along with many others, left Indiana for Todd County, Minnesota. Albert Murphy and his wife Ellen were in Minnesota in time for the Minnesota State Census of 1875, where they were living on 120 acres in Ward Township. By 1880, they had seven children, the oldest of whom was Martin Murphy. A descendant wrote on Ancestry.com that Albert and his family moved to Old Hartford and was appointed postmaster. He served in that position until the railroad came to Browerville and the post office was moved there. Albert Murphy died in Dr. Mruphy.
