Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Greetings from Westfort College of Nursing, Thrissur, Kerala.
Westfort College of Nursing takes immense pleasure and pride to thcordially invite you to the 12 Annual National Conference of
th th th Indian Society of Psychiatric Nurses (ISPN) on 25 , 26 & 27March, 2013 at Westfort College of Nursing.
Westfort College of Nursing was established in the year 2002 at
Thrissur, the cultural capital of GOD'S OWN COUNTRY- KERALA. It was one of the prime institutions to establish a College of Nursing in the Self- financing sector. Having crossed a decade of dedicated and committed service in Nursing Education the college offers B.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing & M.Sc. Nursing (in all five specialties). The Graduates and Post Graduates prepared from all these programs are well placed in India and abroad. We the Faculty believe that we are responsible to safe guard and uplift the Nursing Profession and on the move to develop the institution to a Centre of Excellence with the support of the Nursing Fraternity, health and related agencies.
Indian Society of Psychiatric Nurses (ISPN), a Professional organisation established in the year 1991 under the artless and efficient guidance of Dr. K. Reddemma (Senior Professor & HOD, Dept. of Nursing, NIMHANS, Bengaluru) and her team has incredible achievements in the records of Psychiatric Nursing. The objectives of ISPN are to achieve competency in Psychiatric Nursing practice utilizing strong evidence through scientific researches in Psychiatric Nursing. This has been materialized through the untiring efforts of the leaders, co-operative and collective participation of its members in organizing regular continuing education programs, research activities and publishing Indian Journal of Psychiatric Nursing.
Somatoform disorders represent a group of disorders characterized by physical symptoms suggesting a medical disorder, but the physical symptoms cannot be fully explained by tests and investigations. Another fact is that it causes significant economic burden to the costs of brain disorders. Though it poses challenges to the health team, it is encouraging to note that patients mostly show better prognosis with effective management strategies including nursing interventions. With a view to update the Nurses & other health professionals with the recent trends and advancements in the management of somatoform disorders, ISPN and Westfort College of Nursing jointly venturing a professional platform through this National Conference to have intellectual exchange of views, ideas and dialogues by experts in the field of Psychiatry and Psychiatric Nursing. The theme of the Conference is SOMATOFORM D I S O R D E R S – A M E N T A L H E A L T H N U R S I N G PERSPECTIVE
We expect your active participation to make the conference an exciting experience in exchange of newer ideas and concepts of somatoform disorders.
