1JAKE DYSON PRODUCTS
At Jake Dyson Products we design brilliantly engineered
lighting products. By evolving our lights and the technology
that drives them, we break new ground. Our aim is to
combine functionality and design to create iconic products.
We control and oversee the entire process from concept
through testing and manufacturing to supplying our
customers and retailers.
The first product developed and manufactured in 2006 was a
motorised angle adjustable uplighter - The Motorlight Floor.
In 2011 we reinvented the task light when the CSYS
range was launched – the dimmable LED task lights
incorporate functional motion mechanics, refined thermal
management and heat pipe technology producing a
bright, warm, white light with astonishing durability.
This range will run brightly and efficiently for 37+ years.
We would now like to introduce Ariel to you - a new, ground-
breaking range of suspension lights.

The name Ariel is inspired by the first all-British satellite
‘Ariel 1’, launched into orbit in 1962.
Ariel features a further evolution of the heat pipe technology
which was initially developed for use in satellites and more
recently incorporated into our CSYS range.
Heat pipe technology cools the LEDs, increasing their life-
span. The LEDs in Ariel are cooled to a level unheard of in
a light of this power. The life-span of Ariel will surpass any
existing LED suspension light.
These powerful LED lights use cutting edge optics
providing even, targeted illumination. Jake Dyson Products
is the first company to develop this type of optic for a
COB (Chip on Board) LED. This pushes the boundaries
of optical design and delivers unrivalled performance.
This is a light for life.

The Ariel downlight uses one single point source
of light to evenly illuminate a specific working area
e.g. office desks, a boardroom table or kitchen
island. No other light can evenly illuminate such
a space using one point source.
The Ariel uplight provides diffuse, general
illumination within a room by bouncing nearly
9000 lm off the ceiling giving a powerful, wide
spread of light. Most LED uplights only provide
a low level of illumination with little useful light
in the room.
Ariel’s unique and striking light-weight design
maximises cooling performance and moves away
from the conventional bulky form factor.
The Ariel downlight provides task lighting. It targets
and focuses nearly 7000 lm to a specific working
area with little spill to the surrounding space.
The Ariel range uses high-power CXA3050 Cree
LEDs and heat pipe cooling technology to
achieve unprecedented longevity.
Because of Ariel’s high output, fewer fittings are
required to achieve lux levels and even distribution
of light.
The Ariel heat sink is not hidden away inside the
product – it is the product. Ariel is a highly engineered
structure comprised entirely of a heat sink.

Designed for task illumination of office desks,
boardroom tables and kitchen islands, Ariel
exceeds the required average lux levels over a
large surface with one fixture.
Ariel delivers more lumens from a single source
of light than most suspension lights achieve
using a whole array of LEDs.
6984 lm
It casts an even, rectangular pool of light over
a large surface and can also be adjusted to
perfectly light a space, table or kitchen island,
be it rectangular or square.
Advanced optical design eliminates glare and
multiple shadowing.

5 UPlighT APPliCATiON
Designed for indirect area lighting – creating
a very diffuse and comfortable general light
for all types of space, including office spaces,
airports and galleries.
Ariel delivers more lumens from a single source
of light than most suspension lights achieve
using a whole array of LEDs.
Provides a wide pool of light, bounced off the ceiling
to give an even, indirect source of illumination.
Hung from the ceiling at its minimum drop of
400mm, it will provide a 4000mm diameter
throw of light meaning fewer fittings are required
to achieve lux levels and even distribution of light.

We believe it is important that manufacturers’ LED life
claims are substantiated - unrealistic claims are damaging
to the reputation of the lighting industry and misleading
for consumers. Sometimes there isn’t a simple answer,
but we aim to make relevant information available to
back our argument.
Ariel runs the latest in Cree LED COB technology at
unprecedented low temperatures. Because of this, full
lifetime data for these conditions is not yet available,
so we are working with Cree’s LED solution provider to
validate the design. We will be publishing updated figures
as the tests progress.
We will also be working directly with Cree to fully validate
Ariel’s performance at product level.
Cree’s TM-21 Lifetime report calculates a lifetime of 79,200
hours, based on running a sample of 25 XLamp CXA-3050
LEDs at 85°C case temperature in a 25°C room. In the same
conditions, Ariel has less than half the thermal resistance,
with a case temperature under 40°C for the downlight.
Although no comparable information is available for the
new CXA LEDs, old generation XLamp XR-E LEDs run in
comparable conditions would increase in life from around
90,000 hours to in excess of 150,000 hours (=34 years
@ 12 hours per day).
Ariel’s LED life is the result of the advanced cooling
system built within its structure. We have integrated the
same core technology as in the CSYS range – the heat
pipe. In Ariel more heatpipes are used to cool the LEDs
and the product has been opened up to use the entire
structure as a heat sink.
Cooling the LEDs has multiple benefits. It reduces
degradation of brightness and colour rendition for the
life of the product.

7CONTROlS
We have considered the past and the future for the
controllability of the Ariel products. They can be easily
retrofitted into existing lighting circuits, used with a
conventional mains dimmer switch or with the latest in
wireless control. We provide conventional dimming and
DALI functionality as standard.
With intelligent lighting management, energy is saved
and product life is increased making this the most cost
effective way of using our lights.
The lights can be controlled in 3 ways:
1. CONvENTiONAl mAiNS DimmER SWiTCh
2. DAli SYSTEm
Digital control for domestic and commercial lighting:
• Based on the International standard making it
interchangeable with different manufacturer’s
equipment and designed specifically for commercial
and architectural lighting.
• Automated functions (e.g. switching on/off, sensor
controlled dimming, occupancy sensors) can be added.
3. WiRElESS CONTROl
Monitors/controls/informs/automates
• A bespoke solution for interoperable, easy-to-use
lighting allowing for wireless control, giving the user
the power to change lighting remotely and manage
energy use.
• Ariel lights can be controlled from mobile devices
or set with pre-programmed scenes.
• The control system has low installation and
commissioning costs, with no extra wiring required.
• Because controls are such an important feature in
lighting, we have created our own custom made app
for iOS and Android to:
