He had an ordinary childhood in South Philadelphia, playing street football, baseball and basketball. David went to South Philadelphia High School, graduating class of 1938. After that, he went on to Pennsylvania College of Optometry, now called Sailor’s University. He graduated from there in 1945, with a degree in Optometry. David married his first wife, Doris, in 1943, and together they had four children. They were married by an Army Chaplin in Texas. Unfortunately, Doris fell ill and passed away in 1976. David had joined the Army and served as an Army Optometrist for three years, which included WWII. He was discharged in October 1945. He later went on to pass the PA Boards, and then went to New Orleans, Louisiana and passed the LA Boards. He went to work as an Optometrist for a man who had the biggest practice in New Orleans. David worked for him for a number of years. After living in New Orleans for four years, he traveled back to Pennsylvania. David then married his second wife, Leslie, in 1979 in Philadelphia. He was married to her for 33 years. He started his own practice as an Optometrist, which lasted about 46 years until 2006. He was interested in his practice and worked very hard at it. David had to stop working, though, because of a physical handicap in his hands. In his later years, David enjoyed collecting inexpensive watches as a hobby, which all started when he was 8 years old when his father bought him a pocket watch. David also liked reading and political activity. Today, David says, overall, his life was pretty good. He is very grateful for his four children and that they were all very well educated. “Every year at just this time, in cold and dark December, families around the world all gather to remember, with presents and with parties, with feasting and with fun, customs and traditions for people old and young. ~Helen H. Moore

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your

old nonsense. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
