The Holy Father speaks… His Message for Lent 2018 By devoting more time to prayer, we enable our hearts to root out our secret lies and forms of self-deception, and then to find the consolation God offers. He is our Father and he wants us to live life well. Almsgiving sets us free from greed and helps us to regard our neighbor as a brother or sister. What I possess is never mine alone. How I would like almsgiving to become a genuine style of life for each of us! How I would like us, as Christians, to follow the example of the Apostles and see in the sharing of our possessions a tangible witness of the communion that is ours in the Church! This is all the more fitting during the Lenten season, when many groups take up collections to assist Churches and peoples in need. If through me God helps someone today, will he not tomorrow provide for my own needs? For no one is more generous than God. Fasting weakens our tendency to violence; it disarms us and becomes an important opportunity for growth. On the one hand, it allows us to experience what the destitute and the starving have to endure. On the other hand, it expresses our own spiritual hunger and thirst for life in God. Fasting wakes us up. It makes us more attentive to God and our neighbor. It revives our desire to obey God, who alone is capable of satisfying our hunger.

THE MOST

IMPORTANT DECISION OF

YOUR LIFE

Some practical advice for discerning your vocation

1. Pray and Listen asking the Lord daily to show you his will.

2. Pray the Rosary asking for the intercession of Mary, Mother of priests.

3. Pray a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament regularly.

4. Attend Mass frequently (daily if possible) and receive Communion.

5. Go to Confession on a consistent basis. 6. Read Scripture and meditate on God’s

Word. 7. Talk to a priest you find approachable and

ask for spiritual advice. 8. Contact the Vocation Director. 9. Talk to seminarians when they come home

for the holidays. 10. Become involved in your parish. You’ll notice that by doing these things, not only will you hear God’s voice more clearly, you’ll begin to grow in holiness — which is everyone’s primary vocation. The best thing you can do to discover your vocation is to simply be open to the will of God. Stop asking what you want out of life, and start asking what God wants. Remember that Jesus wants you to be happy even more than you do. And if He calls you to priesthood, trust that He will bring you fulfillment.

PROCESSION FOR DIVINE MERCY

ON SUNDAY, APRIL 8, 2018

At 2:00pm all will meet at St. Frances de Chantal Church (57th Street and 13th Avenue) and process to

Regina Pacis Basilica. At 3:00pm we will enter the Basilica to recite the

Divine Mercy Chaplet in different languages for each decade. Rev. Kurowski will preach in Polish and English.

Eucharistic Benediction will close the event.

All are invited to participate in this beautiful celebration.

Light refreshments will follow in the Conference Center.

In today’s Gospel (John 12: 20-33) Jesus teaches his disciples about the way in which he will be glorified by God, and a voice from heaven is heard to affirm this teaching. Let’s pray together asking Jesus to help us follow his teaching, letting go of things so that we can help others. Pray together the Peace Prayer of Saint Francis.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Congratulations to our students preparing for First Holy Communion who have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation on March 17th.

On Palm Sunday a great crowd greeted Jesus as he entered the city of Jerusalem waving palm branches and calling out “Hosanna!”
