This comprehensive poetry anthology resulted from a SPECTRA workshop, sponsored by the cultural Council of Santa Cruz County and the Brook Knoll PTA. r was most pleased to conduct the poetry workshop at Brook Knoll this year. Every child in the school ~ontributed a poem expressive of his or her unique imagination. May each of you, children, have the courage and belief in yourselves' to-·k"'t'!e.p on writing and imagining.

rm all alone in a new place and in a new school I walk in the room. and a million eyes stare at me.

1 think Why did we have to move anyway? I left my friends and home back there. I left it to come to a new place where I'm all alone.

I hear a voice saying, "Monica, you sit right here," Time goes by, it seems like a million years. Finally recess time comes.

I walk outside and see some girls playing. I say, "Can I play with you?" NO is the mean answer.

Some other girls are jumping rope. I ask, "Can I play with you?" NO lsthe answer again.

Red is like a ball. Orange is like a big, juicy orange. Yellow is like a ripe banana. Green is like grass making swoosh noises. Blue is like the sky with the wind blowing.
