Seeing is believing, and where video surveillance systems are concerned, a clear image is

integral to safety. The Siqura camera line therefore comprises a wide range of standard,

megapixel, and high-definition (HD) models capable of safeguarding any infrastructure.

Siqura cameras offer true day/night and backlight compensation as standard features, as

well as wide dynamic range (WDR) functionality in some models, to ensure quality images

in difficult lighting conditions. Through integrated audio and digital input/output contacts,

these sturdy Siqura devices can be both your eyes and ears, guaranteeing that you can

successfully secure multiple sites. Siqura cameras can stream MJPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4,

and H.264, enabling you to streamline the use of your video as efficiently and effectively as

possible.

Installing and maintaining these robust cameras is a straightforward process, and

configuring them is easy with their intuitive browser-based user interface. The Siqura

cameras comply with worldwide approved standards for streaming video and are tested

with the leading vendors, making third-party integration simple and hassle-free.

The right tools for the task at hand: CCD or CMOS?

Even with top-of-the-line tools, you still need the right

equipment to get the most out of your system. With an

abundant assortment of surveillance cameras to choose

from, it can be difficult to decide what’s best for your system.

One selection criterion that might trip you up is which type

of image sensor to opt for: CCD (Charged Coupled Device)

or CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor)?

In a nutshell, CCD sensors are more sensitive to light and

offer the best signal-to-noise ratio (SNR); CMOS image

sensors have a good SNR but are less sensitive to light. As

a result, CCD sensors tend to function better in variable

lighting conditions and generally offer better image quality,

especially in low-light conditions. A CMOS image sensor

can, alternatively, offer Full HD (1920x1080 pixels)

resolution whereas most CCD sensors are only capable of

HD (1280x720 pixels).

On the application side of things, the primary difference

between these two sensors is their sensitivity to light. When

selecting a camera, it is therefore important to take into

account whether you’ll be using the camera in varied or

controlled lighting circumstances.

The compression method used to stream and store video is

also a key element to a successful surveillance

implementation. While each compression method seems to

have its own benefits and drawbacks, H.264 is the newest

video compression standard, succeeding the well-known

MPEG-4, MPEG-2, and MJPEG. It currently offers the best

image quality available while at the same time reducing

bandwidth requirements, which is ideal for HD streaming

and storage.

Optelecom-NKF (manufacturer of Siqura®) is an active

member of both ONVIF and PSIA, non-profit organizations

dedicated to the development of industry-wide standards for

IP-based physical security devices. We acknowledge the

need for standardization to improve the interoperability of

camera, server, and video management systems. In 2008,

Siqura introduced its Open Streaming Architecture (OSA),

which improves the integration of system components

based on HTTP APIs and RTSP. Since 2010, all Siqura

cameras introduced into the Siqura solutions portfolio have

been ONVIF compliant, making it easy to integrate them

into almost any third-party system.

Installing a surveillance camera is certainly not as simple as it might seem. Mounting such a camera on a ten-meter

pole, ensuring that it is in focus, and monitoring the correct area involves more than just knowing how to use a

screwdriver. It is a juggling act that requires a good understanding of the application at hand, as well as the

practical knowledge necessary to deploy a surveillance system effectively.

To assist in this arduous task, Siqura now offers the Siqura Multifunction Monitor, a handheld LCD touch screen

computer to test video and audio functionality. With a PTZ controller and the ability to power PoE cameras, the

Siqura Multifunction Monitor guarantees that what you need is where you are.

The Siqura Multifunction Monitor eliminates the need for a laptop or PC to check the camera’s field of view or video

quality, making it easier to ensure valuable information from either an IP or analog camera. This handy tool

ultimately turns tricky installations into straightforward successes.

Siqura Switches

Networks

Transmitting video over vast distances requires reliable

networks, especially where safety and security are

concerned. That’s why Siqura offers one of the largest

assortments of fiber optic equipment in the world for both

point-to-point and optical add/drop CWDM configurations.

Siqura is determined to ensure the best performance

whenever and wherever it’s needed. All Siqura fiber

products are field-hardened to withstand the harshest

conditions and most extreme temperatures. Moreover,

Siqura offers the most compact fiber solutions available

anywhere.

Since Siqura is committed to providing complete

surveillance solutions, it offers fiber optic devices that

support fiber to IP transitions, easing the creation and

expansion of hybrid networks. Siqura wants to make safety

and security accessible to everyone, so each Siqura fiber

product is adjustment-free and hot-swappable. Furthermore,

Siqura codecs offer an optional SFP connector, so creating

a complete solution using both Siqura fiber and codec

devices is advantageously clear-cut. With a comprehensive

five-year warranty and a network management interface for

remote device health monitoring, you can rest assured that

your Siqura solution will last for many years to come.

Switches

Ethernet switches and routers are the building blocks of an

IP network. Together, they dispatch data over the network to

the relevant locations. However, not all networks are suitable

for streaming video.

Siqura has extensive experience and expertise in designing

and configuring IP networks. It has developed myriad

complex systems, each comprising a considerable number

of video streams. Using its knowledge of video networks,

Siqura designed the XSNet series edge switches. They are

optimized for streaming video and multicast transmission, a

combination rarely found in industrial grade switches.

With all the vast and varied information being sent over a

network, it is necessary to have a robust switch that is

capable of functioning in extreme temperatures and

withstanding mechanical stress, such as vibration and

shock. Siqura switches provide such a durable solution to

keep information flowing smoothly throughout your network.

Due to their resilience and quality, Siqura switches are used

in critical surveillance situations the world over, including the

Dubai traffic monitoring system.

Siqura Switches

Networks

Transmitting video over vast distances requires reliable

networks, especially where safety and security are

concerned. That’s why Siqura offers one of the largest

assortments of fiber optic equipment in the world for both

point-to-point and optical add/drop CWDM configurations.

Siqura is determined to ensure the best performance

whenever and wherever it’s needed. All Siqura fiber

products are field-hardened to withstand the harshest

conditions and most extreme temperatures. Moreover,

Siqura offers the most compact fiber solutions available

anywhere.

Since Siqura is committed to providing complete

surveillance solutions, it offers fiber optic devices that

support fiber to IP transitions, easing the creation and

expansion of hybrid networks. Siqura wants to make safety

and security accessible to everyone, so each Siqura fiber

product is adjustment-free and hot-swappable. Furthermore,

Siqura codecs offer an optional SFP connector, so creating

a complete solution using both Siqura fiber and codec

devices is advantageously clear-cut. With a comprehensive

five-year warranty and a network management interface for

remote device health monitoring, you can rest assured that

your Siqura solution will last for many years to come.

Switches

Ethernet switches and routers are the building blocks of an

IP network. Together, they dispatch data over the network to

the relevant locations. However, not all networks are suitable

for streaming video.

Siqura has extensive experience and expertise in designing

and configuring IP networks. It has developed myriad

complex systems, each comprising a considerable number

of video streams. Using its knowledge of video networks,

Siqura designed the XSNet series edge switches. They are

optimized for streaming video and multicast transmission, a

combination rarely found in industrial grade switches.

With all the vast and varied information being sent over a

network, it is necessary to have a robust switch that is

capable of functioning in extreme temperatures and

withstanding mechanical stress, such as vibration and

shock. Siqura switches provide such a durable solution to

keep information flowing smoothly throughout your network.

Due to their resilience and quality, Siqura switches are used

in critical surveillance situations the world over, including the

Dubai traffic monitoring system.

Hindsight is undeniably 20/20. But it doesn't always do

much good. If you're trying to keep a bridge clear while it

opens or rerouting traffic to prevent accidents from

escalating, retrospective reflections are futile. Yet when

reviewing the scene of a crime, the ability to look back can

be irreplaceable in forensic investigations.

Whether for solving crimes or saving lives, there is a Siqura

solution for every situation. Optelecom-NKF offers two video

recording solutions:

! Siqura Operator Storage, accompanied by the

Siqura i-NVR

! The Siqura Network Recorder

From the Moscow Metro to tunnels throughout Paris, the

Siqura i-NVR solution has proven a true success. In

combination with its playback viewing client, Operator

Storage™, and the proprietary MX SDK protocol, the Siqura

i-NVR solution offers a secure and reliable storage system

for highly demanding surveillance applications.

Having accumulated a vast number of rewarding insights

during the development and implementation of the Siqura

i-NVR solution, Optelecom-NKF created the Siqura Network

Recorder. While rivaling the Siqura i-NVR solution in storage

performance, the Siqura Network Recorder adds features

like lip-sync audio. It also supports HD resolutions and third-

party IP equipment and is compliant with ONVIF

specifications. This ensures that the Siqura Network

Recorder can take on the toughest requirements in any

video surveillance application.

Software Solutions

Since surveillance systems can contain a colossal complex

of hardware components, such as cameras and codecs,

managing a network can be an overwhelming task. Siqura

eliminates this burden by providing a selection of flexible

and user-friendly software tools for configuration, live

viewing, network storage, and playback.

Each Siqura software solution offers an intuitive user

interface and superior video quality. With worldwide

approved open standards backing every Siqura solution, our

software is easy to install and configure into your existing

network. Being suitable for applications both large and

small, Siqura software can grow with your system.

Furthermore, one of Siqura's top priorities is to ensure that

our products can stand up to the demanding tasks implicit in

24/7 video surveillance applications.

authenticated with a checksum to ensure content integrity. The i-NVR Elite can

simultaneously handle background recording for 64 streams and the playback of 64

cameras.

The Siqura Network Recorder (SNR) is the next generation of Optelecom-NKF's

Operator Storage™ and intelligent Networked Video Recorder (i-NVR) solution, now

incorporating server, recorder, system management, and viewing client software into a

single system. The Siqura Network Recorder is designed for reliability and functionality.

It combines efficient video storage with flexible viewing needs and effective configuration.

The Siqura Videowall Decoder (SVD) is a video wall software application allowing for the

display of up to 17 live video streams on an external, high-resolution (HD) monitor. The

SVD application complements the viewing client software options, Siqura Operator Office

and Siqura Operator Storage.

TMThe Siqura MX SDK is an ActiveX-based software development kit for third-party

software integration. It contains a set of powerful tools to control, monitor, and view a wide

variety streams and events from the various components in the network. This makes it an

easy, effective, and efficient instrument for software engineers who need to create

applications that support Siqura equipment in MX video networks. With this set of building

blocks, developers can design or integrate almost any possible function or application.

Since cleaning or mechanical vibrations can reposition

cameras and a lens can become contaminated by spiders,

dust, or even unlawful behavior, the Tampering Detector

compares the actual camera scene with the intended one

and alerts you of any unexpected changes. Therefore,

despite the normal wear and tear of everyday operation,

users can rest assured that their video surveillance system

is recording what it needs to, when it needs to.

®The Siqura TrafficServer™ is an intelligent solution that

increases traffic safety through real-time traffic monitoring,

automatic incident detection (AID), and traffic data collection

(TDC). This unique combination allows for more extensive

systems in which a single operator can monitor hundreds of

cameras simultaneously and promptly manage traffic flow

and incidents. Moreover, TDC enables highway authorities

to accurately assess the traffic situation and appropriately

adjust road conditions and maintenance schedules when

necessary.

Unlike other AID solutions on the market, the TrafficServer distinctively integrates the expertise and experience of

Siqura (by Optelecom-NKF), an authority on robust and reliable video servers, and that of AID expert, Traficon.

By uniting the proven capabilities of these companies, the TrafficServer maintains the flexibility and dependability of

the open-standard network interfaces inherent in all Siqura video servers while simultaneously reaping the benefits

of the latest AID technology. This successful collaboration has resulted in effectively decentralizing AID systems,

making the implementation of the AID algorithms more efficient and reducing space and power requirements.

Through its incorporation into Traficon’s traffic management software (FLUX), the TrafficServer is capable of readily

discovering and exposing incidents, such as stopped vehicles, speed drops, fallen objects, and smoke. It can also

carry out traffic monitoring tasks, for example, measuring lane speed and occupancy. Additionally, this intelligent

video server supervises the overall health of the system, alerting operators in instances of image loss, camera

movement, or communication errors. Since the TrafficServer can simultaneously encode and stream multiple

formats, including H.264, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and MJPEG, video can be streamlined for specific purposes.

Ultimately, this conglomeration of features and proficiencies results in a life-saving solution for traffic monitoring in

critical areas, including tunnels, elevated highways, and bridges.

No matter where in the world or how extensive and complicated a system might be, almost

every IP video network relies on encoders and decoders to transmit and display or store

images acquired from cameras. Since the Siqura philosophy is based on providing high-

quality and reliable equipment that can be used anywhere, Siqura offers a wide array of

field-hardened video servers that can function in the most rigorous of circumstances, such

as extreme temperatures. Siqura encoders and decoders are also designed using

worldwide approved standards and tested with prominent manufacturers' equipment to

ensure that they are compatible with all the leading third-party VMS systems. As these

versatile gadgets can use either an RJ-45 or SFP connector, they perform optimally in

copper, coax, or fiber networks, or even in combined, hybrid setups.

Moreover, each of these small but sturdy devices includes

integrated audio, data, and digital input/output contacts to

streamline your surveillance solution. By providing MJPEG,

MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and H.264 video compression options,

Siqura video servers enable you to view live streams and

store recorded video as efficiently and effectively as

possible. Ultimately, Siqura codecs ensure that you can

think about what you’re seeing rather than how it’s

streaming.

Every year, hundreds of millions of dollars are spent on

video surveillance equipment. Most of these purchases are

preventative and once a system is set up, most expect it to

work. Yet, despite high-tech surveillance systems receiving

regular maintenance inspections, every system is at risk of

failing at just the wrong time.

®In an effort to combat potential pitfalls, Siqura recently

introduced two new VCA components into their multi-

channel H.264 video servers: the Siqura Image Quality

Monitor and the Siqura Tampering Detector. They offer the

CCTV and video surveillance industry a solution that

monitors every system’s most failure-prone part, namely, the

camera.

The Image Quality Monitor measures elements of the camera

image and alerts operators within seconds of malfunction.

Whether changes in lighting conditions require refocusing or

the iris control gets stuck, the Image Quality Monitor initiates

an alarm to ensure that you know almost immediately if

something is amiss with a particular camera’s picture.
