Fellow A. von Humboldt (1996-1997) at Max Planck Ins�tut für intern. u. ausl. Strafrecht where he has been visi�ng scholar since 1983 and Jean Monnet Fellow (from 2015 “Mobility, Security and the New-Media” module). Teaching courses: Criminal law, Criminology and Compara�ve, European and Interna�onal Criminal Law.Author of more than 170 publica�ons in Italy and abroad on general and special topics of criminal law, with a constant a�en�on to the compara�ve and mul�level perspec�ve in addressing fundamental problems of criminal policy of the contemporary criminal system (transna�onal organized crime, trafficking of persons and goods, criminal liability of groups of companies, principles of interna�onal criminal law). Co-director of the series “Quaderni di diri�o penale comparato, internazionale ed europeo” and of the “Rivista trimestrale di diri�o penale dell'economia”, member of the scien�fic commi�ee of several legal reviews, he is project leader since 1998 for European and interna�onal projects networked with qualified research centers; he chairs the regional scien�fic council of the Syracuse Interna�onal Ins�tute for Criminal Jus�ce and Human Rights. Speaker at interna�onal seminars and conferences in 16 countries. He is German Honorary Consul in Palermo since 2010.

Teaching courses: Criminal Law, European and Compara�ve Criminal Law, Criminology. In recent years he has also developed exper�se on the rela�onship between criminal law, criminaliza�on and irregular migra�on and was coordinator of the Jean Monnet module "Mobility, Security and the New Media (2015-18).PhD in criminal law at the University of Macerata (2005). In 2012 he was Senior Visi�ng Fellow at the Nathanson Centre on transna�onal Human Rights, Crime and Security (York University, Toronto); in 2013 he was Jemolo Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. He is part of the project "Bordercriminologies", based at Oxford University. He is regularly invited to speak about the criminaliza�on of immigrants in interna�onal workshops and seminars. He has also worked extensively on the rela�onship between fundamental rights and criminal law. He is author of books and severals ar�cles (also in Italian).

Expert in the filed of corpora�ve criminal procedure, interna�onal judicial coopera�on and human rights. Within the project she carries out teaching and research ac�vi�es and takes part in workshops and Summer School ac�vi�es.She is a criminal and civil procedure, and arbitra�on law Professor at the Faculty of Law at the Complutense University (Madrid, Spain) since 1996. She has worked as an interna�onal legal expert with various interna�onal organiza�ons in Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Latvia, Russia, Armenia, Moldova and Central Asia. She has been a visi�ng scholar at renowned ins�tu�ons, among others the Max-Planck-Ins�tute for Criminal Law and Procedure (Germany), and at the Universi�es of Berkeley, Harvard and Stanford (USA). In 2013 was appointed as chair of the Working Group on Transna�onal Organised Crime of the Council of Europe. In 2015 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by San Pedro University, Perú. In 2015, she was also recipient of the “Luis Portero Award” for the best legal study on fundamental rights in Spain.

Expert in the fields of Criminology and Human Rights, also in rela�on to immigra�on. Within the project she carries out research ac�vi�es, coordinates workshop ac�vi�es at Oxford University and is responsible for border criminologies.

Mary Bosworth is Professor of Criminology and Fellow of St Cross College at the University of Oxford, as well as, concurrently, Professor of Criminology at Monash University, Australia. At Oxford, she is Director of the Centre for Criminology and Director of Border Criminologies, an interna�onal research network on the intersec�ons between border control and criminal jus�ce. Mary Bosworth is par�cularly known for her work on immigra�on deten�on, on which she has published widely. She is currently working on a compara�ve project on human rights monitoring in immigra�on deten�on in Greece, Turkey, Hungary and Italy. In Oxford Mary teaches about criminal jus�ce and border control to MSc students. Mary has also contributed to na�onal inves�ga�ons of immigra�on deten�on in the UK and to the Council of Europe.

Expert in criminal law, in the last years he has dealt in par�cular with the criminal law of the enemy, terrorist offences and the relevance of vic�ms' behaviour in criminal law. Within the project he carries out research ac�vi�es and takes part in the workshop.Law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1991, obtained the �tle of Doctor of Philosophy at the same University in 1997, winning the extraordinario de doctorado Award; pre- and post-doctoral fellow of the DAAD (1992/1993 and 1998; University of Bonn); fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Founda�on (2000/2002 at the University of Bonn and Monaco of Bavaria, in 2009 at the University of Freiburg). Corresponding member and Secretary of the Criminal Law Sec�on of the Spanish Royal Academy for Jurisprudence and Legisla�on since 2005. Professor of Criminal Law at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2000-2008). Since 2015, he is a member of the Criminal Law Sec�on of the Spanish General Codifica�on Commission.

Expert in the fields of criminology, law and criminal jus�ce. Within the project he takes part in the research ac�vity and in the scheduled workshops.He is a Professor in Master and Ph.D. courses of criminal law, criminology, and penal policies taught in universi�es of eight European and American countries. He gaves in universi�es and research centres of fiƒeen European and American countries and he par�cipated in 30 research projects, funded by Spanish public bodies and the European Commission. Among his works, publica�on of 18 authored and edited books, and more than 130 journal ar�cles and book chapters on criminal law, criminal jus�ce, penal policies and criminology issues. He is a member of the Execu�ve Board of the European Society of Criminology (since September 2016).

Expert in fundamental rights and protec�on regimes for foreigners. Within the project she carries out teaching and research ac�vi�es.PhD in European and Na�onal Law discussing a Thesis on the Protec�on of Foreigners between Na�onal Law, European Union and Interna�onal Law (2006) at the University of Palermo. She is Professor of Cons�tu�onal Law at the University of Palermo. Within the project he carries out teaching and research ac�vi�es.He obtained a PhD in economics from the University of York (UK) in 1988 and an Msc - Health Economics from the same University in 1984. Since 2000 he is Full Professor of Public Economics at the University of Palermo. From 1999 to 2000 he was Visi�ng Professor at the University of California, San Diego. He taught Microeconomics at Quuen Mary University in London in 2015. He is author of several publica�ons in these fields. He is a member of the editorial board of many Economics Rewies.

Expert in the field of criminal procedure and in recent years has dealt in par�cular with immigra�on law and the rela�onship between fundamental rights and criminal procedure. Within the project he carries out teaching and research ac�vi�es. He holds courses in criminal procedural law. Teaching courses: Criminal procedure, children's procedural law, women legal studies and women and rights, penal aspects. He is currently Coordinator of the PhD in "Legal Pluralisms: ancient and current perspec�ves" at the University of Palermo. Within the project she carries out research ac�vi�es and takes part in workshops and Summer School.Serena Forla� (LL.M., Bruges, Ph.D., Rome-La Sapienza) graduated in Law at the University of Florence. She prac�ced as a lawyer between 1998 and 2002. She was post doc in Public Law and researcher (2001-2002) in Interna�onal Law at the University of Florence. She is Professor of Interna�onal Law at the University of Ferrara and coordinator of MaCrO, Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Mafia and other forms of organized crime. She is the author of numerous publica�ons on the same topics.

Expert in cons�tu�onal immuni�es, sources of law, poli�cal poli�cal rights and powers, execu�ve leniency, state secret, referendum, European law, security, state budget process. Within the project he carries out research ac�vi�es and takes part in the Summer School.He obtained his PhD in Cons�tu�onal Law at the University of Bologna in 1999 and has been Full Professor of Cons�tu�onal Law at the University of Bologna since 2011. Expert in immigra�on policies and protec�on of vic�ms of transna�onal crime. Within the project she carries out teaching and research ac�vi�es.She obtained his PhD in Criminal Procedure at the University of Palermo (1999) and has been teaching Criminal Procedure at the same University since 2015. She holds courses in Criminal Procedure, European, Interna�onal and Compara�ve Criminal Procedure, Immigra�on and Criminal Policy. She has carried out research on immigra�on-related aspects of the criminal process also through a DAAD grant (2010) and conducted research on vic�ms in criminal proceedings as a visi�ng researcher at the Max Planck Ins�tut für ausländisches und interna�onales Strafrecht, Freiburg, Germany (2012). She is the author of numerous publica�ons. She is part of the FFR 2012 project on transna�onal crimes between the founda�on and the limit of suprana�onal sources based at the University of Palermo. He established the Centre for the Applica�on of European Law at the University of Utrecht in 1991 and was appointed Professor/Director of European Law Applica�on and European Integra�on in 1992. Since 1996 he has also been Professor of Economic and Financial Criminal Law at the same University. Since 2003 he has been Deputy Director and Research Director of the Utrecht Law School. She holds a PhD in Criminal Law from the University of Macerata (2005) and she is currently

Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Palermo. She has worked as a researcher in several

European projects (IFO and GLODERS). She is also author of several publica�ons and has been

invited to several conferences on topics related, among the others, to european criminal law and

environmental law. She par�cipated as a lecturer in the Jean Monnet module (2015-2018) in

"Mobility, Security and the New Media" at the University of Palermo.

She has developed her research mainly on the liability of legal persons, organised crime and environmental law.She obtained the diploma of specializa�on in legal professions at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome. In the same city she also did an eighteen-month internship at the Criminal Court. She is lawyer. She won the Falcone Borsellino Scholarship. She obtained her PhD in Law at the University of Palermo (2019: thesis on “Corporate liability for criminal offences and infiltra�on of criminal organiza�ons into the public administra�ons. Criminal protec�on of the environment as a leading case”). In 2017/2018 she was Visi�ng student at the Max Planck Ins�tut für ausländisches und interna�onales Strafrecht in Freiburg im Breisgau.

MARTA PALMISANO

POST-DOC FELLOWS

His main fields of research are bioethics, criminal liability in the medical field, human trafficking and migrant smuggling.He obtained a PhD in Criminal Law at the University of Palermo (2017: thesis on “The euthanasia issue in the mul�level legal order: the fundamental rights perspec�ve”) and he is a Post-Doc Fellow in Criminal Law at the University of Palermo (2017-2019 Ricerca NESMES PMI). Winner of the Falcone Founda�on scholarship with the project "The new fron�ers of organized crime: trafficking in human beings and child trafficking" (2017). He collaborated (2016, 2017) on the Jean Monnet module "Mobility, Security and the New Media" (Project Manager: Prof. Vincenzo Militello).

His main fields of research are money laundering, corporate criminal responsibility, conflicts of jurisdic�on, economic crime and migrant smuggling.He obtained a PhD in Criminal Law at the University of Palermo (2017: thesis on "Criminal Strategies and Economic Analysis of Business Crime") and he is a Post-doctoral Fellow in Criminal Law at the same University (2017-2019 Ricerca NESMES PMI). Lawyer since 2016. He was Fulbright-Fondazione Falcone-NIAF researcher (2016- 2017) and visi�ng researcher at the University of Virginia (UVA), Law School (2017), University of Maryland, Department of Criminology (2016) and University of Oxford (2015).

7. HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND FORCED LABOUR The session will be devoted to analysing the impact of human trafficking on forced labour, both from a criminological and from a criminal law perspective.

MULTILEVEL PROTECTION OF THE VICTIMS OF HUMAN

TRAFFIICKING

The session

will

be

devoted

to

analysing

the

multilevel

legal

framework

on

the

protection

of the victims of trafficking. Specific attention will be tribute to Italian law, EU Law and International

legal

instruments.

THE

MEDITERRANEAN

SEA:

DRUG

TRAFFIKING

The session will be devoted to discussing the relevance of the trafficking of drugs in the Mediterranean Sea and, furthermore, analyzing the Italian legal framework and criminal investigations on the topic.

THE

ISSUE

OF

THE

HIGH

SEA

The

session

will

be

devoted

to

discussing

the

relevance

of

the

new

emerging

Eco-mafia

and the

illegal

transport

of

hazardous

waste

in

the

Mediterranean

Sea.

Moreover,

the

session

will be

devoted

to

better

understanding

to

what

extent

European

Union

and

EU

Member

States may

exercise

jurisdictional

and

enforcement

powers,

according

to

the

Law

on

the

High

Sea and

the

International

Conventions

on

the

matter.

TRAFFICKING OF CULTURAL PROPERTIES (I):

PROFILES AND EXPERIENCES OF THE

COUNTER-ACTION

The two concluding sessions of the course are dedicated to the trafficking of cultural properties, which today represents one of the most widespread illicit trafficking in the Mediterranean. In the first one, the main lines of the wide notion of "cultural heritage" are outlined, in the light of some experiences of the protection system, both with respect to administrative agencies and to the appropriate law enforcement unit, and with respect to some cases of criminal law enforcement.

THE INTERNATIONAL,

EUROPEA AND

ITALIAN PERSPECTIVE AND THE JUDICIAL COOPERATION

The session will be aimed at outlining the legal framework of multi-level (international, European and Italian) contrast in the protection of cultural heritage and the experiences of judicial cooperation in this field.
