developing projects under theClean Development Mechanismof the Kyoto Protocol, toplacing Carbon Credits.ENER•G Systems worksexclusively with EcoSecurities(our nominated consultants)to develop projects.

EcoSecurities Ltd is a leadingcompany in GHG trading. Ithas developed and/or advisedon CO2 and other GHG emissionreduction projects in over 30countries, structuring severalof the world’s first and largestcertified emission reductiontrades. It currently managesCarbon Trading Funds forGovernments and the privatesector in Europe and Japan. Inthe landfill sector, it is at theforefront of identifying anddeveloping projects worldwide.

Black Economic EmpowermentAs an established joint venturecompany, ENER•G Systems iscommitted to the mandate, aiming to assist the Governmentof South Africa in developingits initiative for women andPDI groups in the energyindustry. It has identified anequity portion for regionalparticipation for a suitableempowerment partner withinthe municipal region who will help drive initiativeswithin its realm.

ENER•G Systems is apartnership between ENER•GGroup (ENER•G) and GeneralEnergy Systems (GES) whohave finalised a joint ventureto finance, design, build, andoperate landfill gas to energyprojects in South Africa.

ENER•G is a leading powergeneration company thatprovides clean energy initiativeswith environmental benefits. It has many companies suchas ENER•G Natural Power –experts in capturing, managingand utilizing landfill gas forgenerating electricity. Theyhave access to a whole hostof resources from gas pipeworkinstallations, flaring equipment,LFG engine manufacture, feasibility studies and finance. With more than 90MW ofinstalled capacity worldwide,ENER•G is the UK’s leadingindependent landfill gaselectricity supplier and aleader in this technology indeveloping countries.

General Energy Systems is anenergy management companywith a significant track recordin South Africa focusing inheat energy (fossil fuels) andprocess energy transfer (steam).GES installs, owns, operatesand manages:– steamgeneration plants; hot waterboilers; hot gas plants;cogeneration plants; steam, electricity and thermal oil, heat transfer plants, and sells‘energy’ in a useful form onan ‘across the fence’ basis.

This joint knowledge andexperience enables ENER•GSystems to take you throughthe whole process from

climate change

Climate change and the effectof global warming have beenhigh on the global politicalagenda for the last decade.

Our reliance on fossil fuelsand the generation of harmfulgreenhouse gases mean wenow have to address the harmwe are causing to the planet.

Corporations, governmentsand individuals must beginnow to introduce clean, sustainable energy solutionsand reduce the reliance anduse of fossil fuels.

Investment must be made inrenewable energy, particularlyin industrialising countries, toreplace current large-scalefossil fuel developments.

In December 1997, more than160 nations met in Kyoto,Japan, to negotiate limitationson greenhouse gas emissionsin order to meet the objectivesof the Framework Conventionon Climate Change of 1992.

The outcome of the meetingwas the Kyoto Protocol, inwhich most of the industrialisednations agreed to limit their

emissions, relative to thelevels emitted in 1990.

The Kyoto Protocol sets outtwo ‘Flexibility Mechanisms’ –Joint Implementation and theClean Development Mechanism– that allow for the creation ofcarbon credits based onindividual projects. Thesecarbon credits form the basisof the emerging market inGHG emissions, which allowsindustries or governments indeveloped countries to offsettheir GHG emissions byinvesting in clean energyprojects in industrialisingcountries.

Burning fossil fuels hascaused a massive increase inthe amount of GreenhouseGases in the atmosphere

Heat from the sun warms the Earth’s surface. About

70% of this heat is reflectedback into space.

Increased Greenhouse Gases causemore of this heat to be retained inthe atmosphere – and more heat to

be reflected back to Earth.

methane gas – threat or opportunity?

Methane gas (CH4) is 21 times more harmful to theenvironment than CarbonDioxide (CO2). Unless methaneemissions from landfills, mines and other sources arecontrolled, they are emitted tothe atmosphere, contributingto Global Climate Change.

If you are the owner or anoperator of a site that producesmethane you have a potentialliability that can be turned intoa lucrative resource. Firstly, flaring the gas may be a quickway to generate income (andimprove site safety conditions)as doing so will enable you toclaim Carbon Credits. ButENER•G Systems, beingprimarily an energy company, does not just want to simplyburn it, they want to makeuse of it, to displace our needto use fossil fuels. They want tocollect the gas and supply itto a gas generator to produceelectricity. Other alternativeuses of the gas can also beexplored, including fortransport, for boilers or as areplacement for fuels incertain industries.

But how can you achieve this?ENER•G Systems – The Answer

ENER•G Systems is able toprovide this methane gascapture, utilisationtechnology, finance, andservices to any site. The mostobvious contenders includelandfill sites, coalmines, anddigesters. We will invest, build, and operate the project, and pay the owner of themethane a royalty based onthe revenues generated.

traditional way the ener•g systems way

ENER•G Systems incorporatesthe ENER•G Group (withexpertise in the methanecollection and the utilizationmarket), General EnergySystems (with its track recordand experience in the SouthAfrican energy market) andEcoSecurities (with expertisein the Carbon Trading market)providing a more simplifiedapproach to the wholemethane management issue.

Only one partner to work with

We supply an integrated solution

We make all capital investment

We develop project underthe CDM or JI

We place the Carbon Creditsin the marketplace or buy the credits

We pay YOU a royalty fromthe sale of the carbon creditsand the sale of power

We work with you to identifythe best use for the methane

We develop the methaneutilisation component

We sell the product (egelectricity) and pay YOU moneyin the form of a royalty

As opposed to the traditionalroute the site owner/operatorsimply makes one call toENER•G Systems, who managethe complete process.ENER•G Systems undertakeALL aspects of your projecteven down to the financingso there is no financial risk orcapital investment requiredon your behalf.
