Broadway Block Party Brings Creativity to the Streets Arts organizations team up with local businesses to celebrate art and community

in Downtown Asheville FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 30, 2015 On Saturday August 29th, arts organizations and businesses in the Broadway Arts District (B.A.D.), Asheville’s newest downtown cultural hub, will be hosting a free block party featuring exhibitions, installations, performances, hands-on activities, food trucks, and more. The Broadway Block Party will take place from 10 am to 7 pm, spanning Broadway from the Masonic Temple to Mellow Mushroom with all-ages events open to the public throughout the day. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design CCCD presents the third event in the Back to the Drawing Board series of 24-hour gallery take-overs. Performances by artists Jennifer Bueno (Penland, NC), Aram Han (Chicago, IL), and Cheyenne Rudolph (Gainesville, FL) on August 28 - 29. Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center and Media Arts Project The MAP and BMCM+AC present DOUBLETAKE: A look back at [Re]HAPPENING 2015 with installations, documentary footage, video montage, artist discussions, and live music throughout the afternoon. Across the street in the covered garage, {Re}HAPPENING participants Kehren Barbour and Michael Luchtan will set up an augmented piano harp for public participation. WCQS WCQS staff will be on hand for studio tours and to record visitors’ interest in and experience of art. 2015 Summer DanceFest hosted by Lindsey Kelley Dance A festival celebrating modern and contemporary dance. Participating artists include choreographer Carson Reiners (Chicago, IL), Jacqueline Dugal (Tampa, FL), Janice Lancaster (NYC and Asheville), choreographers Jessie Laurita-Spanglet and Meredith Bove (Washington, DC), plus local dancer and choreographer, Sara Keller. With guerrilla-style performance by Asheville's Dance Improv Company, The Accidentals. $10/suggested donation. Performance length approximately 1 hr, 15 min. Events will take place at 67 Broadway, on the 2nd floor of CCCD.
