  Week of September 16, 2011

The Williams School works with each child to build an enduring

foundation for academic, moral, and social success. Williams School

students embody integrity, confidence, discipline, and a love of learning.

Dear Williams School families,

In an effort to safely expedite our carpool process both in the morning and in the afternoon, we ask the followingof our carpool families:

Please do not park your cars in the carpool line during arrival and dismissal times.

Please be careful when pulling away from the curb after dropping off/picking up your child(ren).

Please do not get out of your car to help load/unload your child(ren). We are happy to assist you with the

loading and unloading of children.

Please be aware that teachers have been asked to limit the amount of talking to parents in the carpool line.

Please avoid making a u-turn in front of the school during pick-up and drop-off times.

It would be helpful if Middle School parents and carpools with middle and lower school students would

arrive after 3:20 PM.

The issue with morning carpool is not so much timeliness as it is a safety issue. We have hadseveral near misses with cars pulling away from the curb too quickly after dropping off children. We hope by off-setting the time for middle school pick-up, we will be able to move our lower schoolfamilies through the carpool line more efficiently. We want to make sure the carpool line continuesto be safe for our children and timely for our parents.

Thank you to everyone that attended and helped out with the picnic festivities today. The students had awonderful time getting to know their school siblings prior to the picnic. Sharing a meal with parents, grandparents, teachers and students provided a time for fellowship and gave the event a great sense of community.

Have a great weekend!Melanie

Character. Achievement. A Sense ofBelonging. (And, of course, the Uniform  ….)

All of this and more that is offered by the Cub Scout experience is available to the boys of The Williams School ingrades 1 through 5. Starting this year, the scouting tradition of TWS is being joined with Pack 31, a stalwart unit chartered byFirst Presbyterian Church of Norfolk with strong ties to Taylor Elementary School in West Ghent. Pack 31 is led by CubmasterTom Mooney, and additional information about the unit is available at http://www.pack31cubscouts.net/ .

This new direction promises a renewed vigor for scouting at TWS, and we are very excited for the year ahead. In

addition to the awards and advancements that comprise the core of the Cub Scout program, highlights of other upcoming eventsinclude the Rain Gutter Regatta, Fall and Spring family campouts (including an October campout at Cheatham AnnexCampground in Williamsburg), and that time-honored fixture of scouting, the Pinewood Derby. Pack 31 also will be involvedin a variety of service projects that will give the boys the unique sense of accomplishment that comes from working as a team tohelp others and give back to one’s community.

If you think your son would enjoy this experience, please consider joining the Cub Scouts as new members of Pack 31.If you would like to get a first-hand view, each of the dens [Tiger (1

stgrade), Wolf (2

ndgrade), Bear (3

rdgrade) and first- and

second-level Webelos (4th
