China Unicom-Connecting to the World

China Unicom implements 3G network operation based on WCDMA. Till

2011Q2, ZTE PS CN has entered China Unicom in totally 16 provinces,

exclusively constructed CN in Fujian, Tianjin, Shanxi, Guizhou, Shanxi, Guangxi,

Qinghai, Xizang, etc., and has taken about one third of total market shares.

China Mobile-Communication with Heart

China Mobile is the largest and most advanced full-service operator in China.

ZTE PS products have been commercially applied to TD-SCDMA network of

China Mobile in a large scale. In 2011, the new market shares of ZTE SGSN and

GGSN equipment in China Mobile reached 22% and 10% respectively.

China Telecom-Enjoying E Surfing

China Telecom, as the largest and earliest fixed network operator in China, has

acquired CDMA network from China Unicom since 2008. In March, 2011,

China Telecom's user quantity has exceeded 100M, and also China Telecom

has become the Top 1 CDMA operator all over the world. Till now, ZTE has

exclusively constructed PDSN for China Telecom in 7 provinces. ZTE HACCG

has entered 3 main provinces, that is, Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Sichuan,

among the 5 bidding provinces of China Telecom, and the equipment

capacity has reached up to 80% of the total capacity in this bidding project.

With the booming of data services under mobile Internet development driven

by smart terminals, some high-rate but low-value services such as web

Thunder and other P2P services preempt huge radio resources crazily. Less

than 5% users consume over 80% bandwidth. As a result, there is huge

pressure to expand radio resources, and the booming traffic does not bring

corresponding high revenue for operators.

To effectively cope with challenges caused by dramatic development of data

services, in 2011, China Telecom deployed and commercially applied a

refinement operation solution named ZOOMs (ZTE's Optimized Operation

and Management Solution) in Sichuan province, which aims at creating a

smart pipe, implementing mobile network traffic management, optimizing

radio resource configuration, and improving quality of service (QoS). Thus, the

crazy preemption of radio resources in busy hours and busy areas is greatly

relieved, and the visible, controllable, and manageable capabilities of PS

network are effectively improved.

In the near future, China Telecom plans to deploy ZSP (ZTE Smart Pipe)

solution by continuously introducing new technologies, and further improves

its network construction, and achieves a smart network with following 4

features, that is, users could be identified, services could be differentiated,

volumes could be adjusted, and networks could be managed.

Guangdong Unicom: Practitioner of New Platform

In recent years, with the increasing of 3G users and rapid progress of mobile

Internet services, China Unicom has made deep exploration and researches on

new technology in PS domain such as refinement operation, WLAN+WCDMA

convergence, POOL disaster redundancy, Gb over IP, and HSPA+, has

implemented a series of test and verification, and has commercially deployed

in the existing network step by step. By enhancing the speed and

performance of PS network, China Unicom greatly enhances its competition

capability at mobile data services.

At the end of 2009, Guangdong Unicom implemented function verification

and test on PCC technique for the first time, and achieved desirable effects. In

2011, Guangdong Unicom adopted a new-generation large-capacity mobile

PS gateway product-xGW based on T8000 router platform to build GGSN. The

xGW product helps Guangdong Unicom further enhance the capability of

providing mobile data services, and sets a basis for subsequent smooth

evolution to LTE.

Beijing Mobile: Leader of Smart Pipe Application

China Mobile has always been a leader of advanced technologies in China

communication market. In 3G network construction, China Mobile has made

discussion and negotiation with equipment vendors from multiple

dimensions such as network flattening, low cost, and intelligent features

based on actual information of the existing network, and has tested and

deployed relevant technology in the existing network.

In 2011, Beijing Mobile has implemented attempts about smart pipe, and has

successfully deployed policy and charging control (PCC) solutions. Deep

packet inspection (DPI) precisely detects low-value services such as P2P

services, effectively reduces network load of data services, and improves

operating revenue. In addition, user behavior analysis system (UBAS)

implements accurate analysis and location from multiple dimensions such as

user behavior and network status, and helps operators make the optimal

market strategy.

“Deeply Exploring New Customers, New Traffic, and New Service" is one of

the key market policies of China Mobile in 2011. Smart pipe unavoidably

becomes a promoter for implementing this policy, and the successful

experience of Beijing Mobile also provides important support for the

large-scale commercial application of smart pipe.
