“Don't interfere with the Eucharist, because there it is a question of

the active power of Jesus. Similarly, do not suppress

personal prayer more than once a week to turn it into shared

meditation. At all costs we must preserve the rhythm of personal

prayer.”

(Bro. Basilio Rueda Guzmán, “A Talk on Prayer”, Circular 10th november 1973, Vol. XXV, N° 5, p. 539)

“I can quote the case of a community that spent the whole of Sunday

morning in prayer. Brothers were convinced that community life well lived was worth more than all the

shows and distractions available in a capital city, and that without this

community contact with the Lord and each other their apostolic life would

lack substance.”

(Bro. Basilio Rueda Guzmán, “A Talk on Prayer”, Circular 10th november 1973, Vol. XXV, N° 5, p. 540)

“One would say: "For me the psalms mean nothing and prayer

in common is not to my taste". We could answer him: “You can go to a restaurant and order what you

like. Here we serve a meal which is the same for all, because we came here mainly for sharing fellowship,

and not merely to eat.”

(Bro. Basilio Rueda Guzmán, “A Talk on Prayer”, Circular 10th november 1973, Vol. XXV, N° 5, p. 543)

“To introduce catering for individual tastes does not make

sense and misses the whole point of community prayer . The golden

rule is to know how to adapt oneself to the prayer that suits the

community, otherwise prayer ceases to be an instrument leading

to communion.”

“If my prayer is genuine it will not leave me in peace and I will not leave

the community in peace. And if my fellow religious are genuine in their prayers, their light will reflect on me and they in turn will stimulate me to

make further demands on myself and them. Let each one make a beginning

and' he will witness the propelling force of prayer on the individual and

the group.”

Let the words you have just read sink into your soul.

Pray Jesus through Mary that you may understand them in

order to live them up.
