The Board of Governors
The British school in Baku is managed by a Board of Governors, which meets regularly to oversee the Management and plan, monitor and review the work of school. The Board of Governors met three times during 2017/2018 Academic Year. The Board of Governors is made of 13 nominated representatives.

This Report is made available to parents of pupils attending BSB. The Chair can and is always willing to offer clarification on any relevant matter, whether included in the report or not.
It should be pointed out that the school works most successfully when there is an effective partnership between students, their parents and the staff of the school.
The Board of Governors usually is elected for a period of three years. The school has applied of the COBIS Patron accreditation and the visit has been appointed for November19-21 2018.
Organizational Structure
A new Organizational Structure was proposed for the 2017/2018 Academic Year. The BOD accepted this proposal.

Background and ethnicity
Primary
18nationalities (40%) are represented in the school, with the largest proportion(60%) being Azeri. There are expat teacher and local teacher classes.
The primary department has a large student body from Asia and Eastern Europe and many children have got dual nationality.
Secondary
Secondary department has over 13 nationalities. The percentage of Azeri students is currently above 70% of the enrolment.

Curriculum
All pupils in the Secondary School are prepared for public, external examinations set and marked by Cambridge International Examinations and Edexcel Examination Boards, the world leading providers of British system international examinations.
Check point was introduced to the primary school key stage2 (year6) a year ago and last year students successfully passed them.
Pupils in Key Stage 3 (years 7 to (, ages 11 to 14) are prepared to the Cambridge Checkpoint examination in English, Mathematics and Science. In addition, pupils study courses in Geography, History, French/German/ Russian, Extra English, ICT, Art, Music and PE.
At Key Stage 4 (years10 and 11, ages 14-16) pupils prepare to take seven subjects in the Cambridge IGCSE programme. Students are required to take 3 Compulsory Subjects and choose 4 subjects from the Option Groups to have 7 subjects in total.

Pupils in Year 12 must take at least four subjects at AS Level and three subjects in Year 13 on A2 Level. This will qualify them for entry to British and other universities worldwide. In order to qualify for AS students have to pass at least 4 IGCSE Subjects with no Grade Lower than a C. Students will not be allowed to choose a subject on AS Level if he/she did not pass the subject at IGCSE Level.
On AS Level subjects are again divided into Compulsory subjects and Optional subjects.

Also BSB started pre-university programme teaching students SAT and IELTS
A number of students participated in Mangihari math competition and got golden medals
Three students could take IGCSE exam a year earlier and got A.
Students participated in UN model competition in Dubai.
BSB has started an interesting projects “The famous people at BSB”. Among them there were:
Ambassador of UK
Ambassador of Palestine,
Ambassador of Mexico,
UNHR representative,
Mr. Kiva, famous airplane designer, national hero of Ukraine
EAL and Special Educational Needs
In both the Primary and Secondary Departments provision is made for students who need English Support as well as students with Special Educational Needs.

Maintenance and Facilities
Several projects to make the facilities at BSB better were undertaken during the 2017/2018 Academic Year. These included :
• The construction of new building for secondary has been started which will include 45 classrooms, bigger in size, gym hall, assembly hall and etc.
• Most classrooms were painted
• A new Computer Network and Office Management System were installed
• Several new Electronic Whiteboards and Projectors were installed
• Most of the chairs in Secondary were replaced
• An order was placed for extra books for the Secondary Library
Instagram and Facebook
The Instagram and facebook of the the school were regularly updated

As required by the relevant regulations, the school updated all the Policies. Special consideration was given to :

• Parents in school

Fund- Raising activities and Charity Donations
BSB ran several events to raise money to support various charities in Azerbaijan. The school community is extremely generous and the efforts made by the students are wholeheartedly encouraged and supported. The Student Council organized non-uniform days, Bake Sales etc.
Projects that were supported were :
• Money was also donated to the Center of Autism, the Homeless and the Baku Animal Center.
• Special Christmas and Novruz Collections of the clothing and toiletries for the orphanage were also done.
Together with UNHR the money were raised to support refugees
BSB held international charity bazaar on occasion of 100th anniversary of establishment Democratic Republic in Azerbaijan with the participation of a number of Embassies in Azerbaijan
Primary students participated in recycling project “Eco Baku”
Health and Safety
The school has a Health and Safety Policy in place and teachers are assigned as Health and Safety Officers. Regular inspections are done and reports presented to the management.
Issues that were raised and acted on were :
• Electrical appliances and electrical cables that were not safe
• Heating and cooling in certain rooms
• Broken windows
• Fire extinguishers needs regular servicing
• First Aid training for staff
Maintenance is kept up-to-date and safety continuously monitored. Fire drill procedures are reviewed at least once a term when a Fire Drill, involving pupils and staff, is carried out.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Both in the Primary- and Secondary Departments after school activities are organized by the staff :
These include :
• Basketball
• Soccer
• Volleyball
• Art
• Drama
• Choir
• Science
• MUN
• Cooking
• Athletics
The MUN team participated at a MUN conference held in Baku and one of the team members was awarded a certificate for outstanding performance.Also students participated in MUN with COBIS schools in Dubai The Senior boys Soccer team won a silver medal at the Silk Roads Championship. The choir was also extremely successful and was invited to several events organized by the British Council and British Embassy. At the Athletics competition the school won 10 medals which included several gold medals.
Students were taken on International trips to :
• Dubai
• UK
Several local trips were also organized throughout the year.
Conclusion
It was an extremely busy, yet successful year for BSB. The Board of Governors wishes to thank all the members of the school community who have contributed to the school over the past year.
