Important Information

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

Under Section 6 of The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, weare required to provide information on substances hazardous tohealth.

The adhesives and sealants used in this appliance are curedand give no known hazard in this state.

Insulation Pads / Ceramic Fibre

These can cause irritation to skin, eyes and the respiratory tract.

If you have a history of skin complaint you may be susceptibleto irritation. High dust levels are usual only if the material isbroken.

Normal handling should not cause discomfort, but follow normalgood hygiene and wash your hands before eating, drinking orgoing to the lavatory.

If you do suffer irritation to the eyes or severe irritation to the skinseek medical attention.

Electrical Supply

The boiler must be earthed.

All system components shall be of an approved type and allwiring to current I.E.E. wiring regulations.

External wiring must be correctly earthed, polarised and inaccordance with the relevant standards.

In GB this is BS 7671.

In IE this is the current edition of I.S.813 "Domestic GasInstallations".

The boiler must be connected to a permanent 230V ac, 50Hzsupply.

Connection of the whole electrical system of the boiler, includingany heating controls, to the electrical supply must be throughone common isolator and must be fused 3 Amp maximum.

Isolation should be by a double pole switched fused spur box,with a minimum gap of 3mm for both poles. The fused spur boxshould be readily accessible and preferably adjacent to theappliance. It should be identified as to its use.

Alternatively connection can be made through an unswitchedshuttered socket and 3A fused 3-pin plug both to the currentissue of BS 1363 may be used, provided they are not used in aroom containing a bath or shower.

The colours of three core flexible cable are, blue - neutral, brown- live, green and yellow - earth.

Gas Category

The boiler is of the I2H category for use only withG20 Natural Gas.

Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations

In your own interests and that of safety, it is the Law that ALLgas appliances are installed by a competent person inaccordance with the current issue of the above regulations.

Testing and Certification

The boiler is tested and certificated for safety and performance.It is, therefore, important that no alteration is made to the boilerunless approved, in writing, by British Gas.

Any alteration not approved by British Gas, could invalidate thecertification, boiler warranty and may also infringe the currentissue of the statutory requirements.

CE Mark

This boiler meets the requirements of Statutory Instrument, No.3083 The Boiler (Efficiency) Regulations, and therefore isdeemed to meet the requirements of Directive 92/42/EEC onthe efficiency requirements for new hot water boilers fired withliquid or gaseous fuels.

Type test for purposes of Regulation 5 certified by: Notified body0087.

Product/production certified by: Notified body 0086.

The CE mark on this appliance shows compliance with:

1. Directive 90/396/EEC on the approximation of the laws of theMember States relating to appliances burning gaseous fuels.

2. Directive 73/23/EEC on the harmonisation of the Laws of theMember States relating to electrical equipment designed foruse within certain voltage limits.

3. Directive 89/336/EEC on the approximation of the Laws ofthe Member States relating to electromagnetic compatibility.

WARNINGSGas Leak or Fault

Turn off the gas emergency control valve immediately. Eliminate all sources of ignition, i.e. smoking, blowlamps, hot airguns etc. Do not operate electrical lights or switches either on or off. Open all doors and windows, ventilate the area. Call

the British Gas Emergency Service telephone number: 0800 111 999.

Sheet Metal Parts

This boiler contains metal parts (components) and care should be taken when handling and cleaning,with particular regard to edges.

Sealed Components

Under no circumstances must the User interfere with or adjust sealed parts.

General Information

General Note

This boiler is a wall hung high efficiency condensing boiler,designed to provide central heating from a fully pumped open-vented or sealed water system with a fully indirect cylinder.

Once the controls are set the boiler operates automatically.

Please read these instructions and follow them carefully for thecorrect installation and economical use of your boiler.

Water Treatment

In the case of an existing installation, it is ESSENTIAL that priorto installing the new boiler the system is thoroughly flushed. Foroptimum performance after installation of a new system, theboiler and its associated central heating system should also beflushed. Flushing should be carried out in accordance withBS7593: 1992 using a cleanser such as Sentinel X300 or X400,Fernox Superfloc or Salamander corrosion guard cleaner.

For long-term corrosion protection, after flushing, an inhibitorsuitable for stainless steel exchangers should be used, refer tothe current issue of BS 5449 and BS 7593 on the use ofinhibitors in central heating systems. Examples are SentinelX100 Fernox or Salamander corrosion guard inhibitor.We do not recommend filling using artificailly softened water.

Compartment or Cupboard Installations

If the boiler is fitted into a compartment or cupboard it does notrequire ventilation openings.

Do not use the compartment or cupboard for storage.

Clearances

If fixtures are positioned close to the boiler, space must beleft as shown in diagram 2.1. Enough space must also beleft in front of the boiler to allow for servicing.

Condensate Drain

The condensate drain, see section 7.3, must not be modified orblocked.

Pluming from flue terminal

Like all condensing boilers this appliance will produce a plumeof condensation from the flue terminal in cool weather. This isdue to the high efficiency and hence low flue gas temperatureof the boiler. It is normal and not a fault indication.

CleaningThe boiler casing can be cleaned using a mild liquid detergentwith a damp cloth, then a dry cloth to polish.

Do not use any form of abrasive or solvent cleaner as you maydamage the paintwork.

Electrical Supply

If the mains electricity and gas are to be turned off for any longperiods during severe weather, it is recommended that thewhole system, including the boiler, should be drained to avoidthe risk of freezing. Make sure that, if fitted, the immersionheater in the cylinder is switched off.

If you have a sealed water system contact your installation/servicing company as draining, refilling and pressurising MUSTbe carried out by a competent person.

Gas Supply

NOTE: This appliance is factory set at 18kW output.

On completion of the adjustment, the inlet working pressure ofthe appliance should be checked to ensure a steady inletworking pressure of 20mbar is achieved.

Thermal Stores

This appliance is suitable for installation with thermal stores,however, the appliance should be adjusted to give the maximum31kW output.

IMPORTANT: If the seal on the 'Pmax' potentiometer is brokenthe gas supply, without exception, must be capable of delivering31.3kW input.

Manual Handling

IMPORTANT: With regards to the Manual Handling Operations,1992 Regulations, the following lift operation exceeds therecommended weight for a one man lift, refer to Section 14. formore information.

Servicing

For the continued efficient and safe operation of the boiler it isrecommended that it is checked and serviced at regular intervals.The frequency of servicing will depend upon the installationconditions and usage, but in general, once a year should beenough.

If this appliance is installed in a rented property in the UK thereis a duty of care imposed on the owner of the property by thecurrent issue of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use)Regulations, Section 35.

Servicing/maintenance should be carried out by a competentperson in accordance with the rules in force in the countries ofdestination.

To obtain service, please contact British Gas’s own serviceorganisation using the telephone number on the front cover ofthis booklet.

Please be advised that the installation engineer on completionof commissioning and servicing should complete the BritishGas logbook.

All CORGI Registered Installers carry a CORGI ID card, andhave a registration number. Both should be recorded in yourboiler Logbook. You can check your installer is CORGI registeredby calling CORGI direct on: - 01256 372300.

Appliance Safety Devices - User Instructions

Electrical Supply Failure Reset Switch

The boiler will not work without an electrical supply.

Normal operation of the boiler should resume when the electricalsupply is restored.

Reset any external controls, to resume normal operation of thecentral heating.

If the boiler does not resume normal operation turn the mainsreset switch off and on. If the boiler does not resume normaloperation after this the overheat stat may have operated.

Overheating Safety

In the event of the boiler overheating the safety devices willcause a safety shutdown. If this happens, call your Installation/Servicing company.

Frost Protection

The appliance has a built in frost protection programme as longas the electricity and gas are left switched on.

This device operates the burner and system pump when thetemperature inside the boiler falls to 30C.

Any other exposed areas of the system should be protected bya separate frost thermostat.

Condensate Blockage

As a safety feature the boiler will stop working if the condensatetrap and siphon drain becomes blocked. During freezingconditions this may be due to the forming of ice in the pipeexternal to the house. Release an ice blockage by the use ofwarm cloths on the pipe. The boiler should then restart. Contactyour installation/servicing company if the fault persists.

Spare Parts

REMEMBER: When replacing a part on this appliance, use onlyspare parts that you can be assured conform to the safety andperformance specification that we require. Do not usereconditioned or copy parts that have not been clearly authorisedby British Gas.

OPERATION OF THE BOILER Sealed Water Systems

CAUTION. A sealed water system must be filled and pressurised prior to use.

Only light the boiler when you are sure that the system and boiler have been filled and pressurised.

The pressure should be at least 0.7 bar, anything less than this figure could indicate a leak and you MUST contact your installeror British Gas's own Customer Care Line using the telephone number on the front cover of this booklet.

All Systems

Check that the electrical supply to the boiler is ON at the external isolator.

Set any remote controls as required.

USER CONTROLSDo not operate the boiler without water.

● Slide the mains reset switch to the ON position (I).

The control light will illuminate (green) indicating the boiler is lit, diagram 1.

● The temperature of the central heating water can be adjusted by turning the central heating water temperature control knob

to desired setting between 'Min' and 'Max', diagram 1.

'Max' is approximately 82°C (180°F)

The digital display, diagram 1, shows the temperature of the appliance when the

appliance is running and in standby.

A fault is indicated by a RED flashing control light and flash fault code on digital display.

To Reset● Slide the mains reset switch to 0. Wait for 5 seconds.

Slide mains reset switch to I.

If the fault persists contact your installer/service provider.

It should be noted that this is a fan flue appliance and fan operation may be heard.

To Turn the Boiler Off● There is a mains reset switch on the right hand side of the controls fascia.

However, it is preferable to leave the electrical supply on whenever possible to permit

operation of the built-in frost protection and daily pump exercise.

1.1 IMPORTANT NOTICE

The boiler is supplied in one carton, which includes a fittings anddocumentation pack.

This boiler is for use on Natural Gas (G20) as distributed in theUnited Kingdom and Ireland and cannot be used on any othergas.

Where no British Standards exists, materials and equipmentshould be fit for their purpose and of suitable quality andworkmanship.

The installation of this boiler must be carried out by a competentperson in accordance the rules in force in the countries ofdestination.

Manufacturer’s instructions must not be taken as overridingstatutory requirements.

1.2 Statutory Requirements

The appliance is suitable only for installation in GB and IE andshould be installed in accordance with the rules in force.

In GB the installation of the boiler must be carried out by acompetent person as described in the following regulations:

The manufacturer’s instructions supplied.

The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.

The appropriate Buildings Regulations either The BuildingRegulations, The Building Regulations (Scotland), The BuildingRegulations (Northern Ireland).

The Water Fittings Regulations or Water byelaws in Scotland.

The Health and Safety at Work Act, Control of SubstancesHazardous to Health (COSHH).

The Current I.E.E. Wiring Regulations, sixteenth edition.

British Standard 7671:2001, requirements for electricalinstallations.

In IE, the installation must be carried out by a competentperson and installed in accordance with the current edition ofI.S.813 "Domestic Gas Installations", the current BuildingRegulations and reference should be made to the current ETCIrules for Electrical Installation.

1 Technical Information

1.3 Gas Supply

The gas installation shall be in accordance with the relevantstandards.

In GB this is BS6891.

In IE this is the current edition of I.S.813 "Domestic GasInstallations".

The supply from the governed meter must be of adequate sizeto provide a steady inlet working pressure of 20mbar (8in wg) atthe boiler.

On completion, test the gas installation for soundness using thepressure drop method and suitable leak detection fluid, purgein accordance with the above standard.

NOTE: This appliance is factory set at 18kW output.

IMPORTANT: If the seal on the 'Pmax' potentiometer is brokenthe gas supply, without exception, must be capable of delivering31.3kW input.

If this appliance is to be used with a thermal store it should beadjusted to the maximum output and the gas supply must becapable of delivering 31.3kW input.

1.4 Technical DataAll dimensions are given in millimetres (except as noted).

The data label is positioned on the inner door, refer todiagram 1.2.The appliance data label must be completed toindicate the maximum output using the rate indicating labelprovided in the literature pack.

The Seasonal Efficiency Domestic Boilers UK (SEDBUK) is:Class 'A'.

The value is used in the UK Government's Standard AssessmentProcedure (SAP) for energy rating of dwellings. The test datafrom which it has been calculated has been certified by Advantica.

1.5 Condensate DrainA plastic drain pipe must be fitted to allow discharge ofcondensate to a drain.

Condensate should, if possible, be discharged into the internalhousehold draining system. If this is not practical, dischargecan be made externally into the household drainage system ora purpose designed soak away, see Section 7.3 for moredetails.

2.1 Boiler Location

This boiler is not suitable for outdoor installation.

This boiler may be installed in any room, although particularattention is drawn to the installation of a boiler in a roomcontaining a bath or shower where reference must be made tothe relevant requirements.

This boiler is suitable for installation in bathroom zones 2 and 3.

In GB this is the current I.E.E. WIRING REGULATIONS andBUILDING REGULATIONS.

In IE reference should be made to the current edition of I.S.813"Domestic Gas Installations" and the current ETCI rules.

The boiler must be mounted on a flat wall, which is sufficientlyrobust to take its total weight, see Table 1. Section 1. TechnicalInformation.

2.2 ClearancesThe boiler should be positioned so that at least the minimumoperational and servicing clearances are provided, see diagram2.1.

Additional clearances may be beneficial around the boiler forinstallation and servicing.

For flue installations where external access is not practicable,consideration should be given for the space required to insertthe flue internally, which may necessitate clearance larger thanthose specified in diagram 2.1.

2.3 Timber Frame BuildingsIf the boiler is to be installed in a timber frame building it shouldbe fitted in accordance with the Institute of Gas Engineersdocument IGE/UP/7/1998 and BG Operational Procedures,Part 19 Building and Kitchen Work, Section 7 - Timber Frame

Constructions.

2.4 Room VentilationThe boiler is room sealed, so when it is installed in a room orspace, a permanent air vent is not required.

2.5 Compartment VentilationDue to the high efficiency and hence low casing temperature ofthis boiler, cupboard or compartment ventilation is not necessary.

3 Flue Location and Ventilation

3.1 Flue Options

This boiler is suitable for concentric Horizontal and Verticalflues, elevated horizontal and vertical twin, all are fitted onto thetop of the boiler.

These instructions describe the use of the standard andtelescopic horizontal flues.

The instructions for all other flues will be contained in theirpacks.

3.2 Flue Length

The maximum permissable horizontal flue length is 10 metresplus the flue terminal, this can be achieved by use of theaccessories, however should an additional 90o or 2 x 45o elbowsbe used then the length MUST be reduced by 1metre.

When extension pipes are used the flue system must bedesigned to have a continuous fall to the boiler of at least 2.5o

44mm/metre to allow condensate to run back into the boiler andout via the drain.

The flue can be installed from inside the building, when accessto the outside wall face is not practicable.

The diagrams 3.1 to 3.4 describe the lengths achievable withoutthe use of extensions or elbows.

3.4 Terminal PositionThe minimum acceptable siting dimensions for the terminalfrom obstructions, other terminals and ventilation openings areshown in diagram 3.5. Dimensions shown are measured fromedge of terminal.

Only one dimension from the minimum clearance should beapplied, all others should be to the nominal clearance.

The terminal must be exposed to the external air, allowing freepassage of air across it at all times.

Being a condensing boiler some pluming may occur from theflue outlet. This should be taken into consideration whenselecting the position for the terminal.

NOTE: If necessary it is permitted to increase the terminalprotrusion through the outside wall to greater than the minimumdimension of 87mm but no more than 600mm, see diagram 1.1.

of a roof only, or a roof and one wall, require special considerationwith respect to any openings, doors, vents or windows under theroof. Care is required to protect the roof if made of plasticsheeting. If the carport comprises of a roof and two of morewalls, seek advice from the local gas supply company beforeinstalling the boiler.

the building regulations, but they may need to be increased toavoid wall staining and nuisance from pluming depending onsite conditions.

3.5 Terminal GuardA terminal guard is required if persons could come into contactwith the terminal or the terminal could be subject to damage.

If a terminal guard is required, it must be positioned to provideminimum of 50mm clearance from any part of the terminal andbe central over the terminal.

The guard should be plastic coated similar to that shown indiagram 3.6.

4.1 Draining TapA draining tap must be provided at the lowest point of thesystem, which will allow the entire system and hot water systemto be drained.

Draining taps shall be to the current issue of BS 2879.

4.2 Safety ValveA safety valve need not be fitted to an open-vented system.

4.3 PumpThe pump should be fitted on the flow pipe from the boiler andhave isolating valves each side.

A variable duty pump should be set to give a temperaturedifference of no greater than 200C between the flow and return,with the thermostat set at “MAX”, which is about 800C, to givea flow rate as shown in table 3.

See chart for pressure loss of the boiler, diagram 4.1.

High resistance microbore systems may require a higher dutypump.

4.4 Flow Rate

If it is necessary to alter the flow rate, the system can be fittedwith a lockable balancing valve in the main flow or return pipesshown as valve “A” in diagram 4.3. The flow rate through theboiler must not be allowed to fall below that given in Table 3.

IMPORTANT Flow and Return Pipe Sizes.Heating circuit flow and return pipes should be sized as follows.Upto 18 kW 22mm. over 18 kW 28mm.

4.5 BypassA system bypass will be required fitted at least 1.5 metres awayfrom the boiler, refer to the current issue of the central heatingsystem specifications (CHeSS).

4.6 Water TreatmentIn the case of an existing installation, it is ESSENTIAL that priorto installing the new boiler the system is thoroughly flushed. Foroptimum performance after installation of a new system, theboiler and its associated central heating system should also beflushed. Flushing should be carried out in accordance withBS7593: 1992 using a cleanser such as Fernox or Salamanderproducts.

For long-term corrosion protection, after flushing, an inhibitorsuitable for stainless steel exchangers should be used, refer tothe current issue of BS 5449 and BS 7593 on the use ofinhibitors in central heating systems. Examples are Fernox orSalamander products.

4.7 Open (Vented) Water SystemThe boiler must be supplied from an unrestricted water supplytaken from a feed and expansion cistern situated at a maximumheight of 27 metres (90ft) above the boiler.

The cold feed must be 15mm minimum size.

The vent must rise continuously and be unrestricted.

It is important that the relative positions of the pump, cold feedand open vent are as shown in diagram 4.2.

4.10 Domestic Hot Water System - unvented

General - All domestic hot water circuits, connections, fittingsmust be in accordance with the relevant standards and watersupply regulations.

For GB: Guidance G17 to G24 and recommendation R17 toR24 of the Water Regulations Guide.

For IE: The current edition of I.S.813 "Domestic Gas Installations".

Where a storage system will not have a vent to atmosphere theinstallation must comply with the building regulations and localWater Company bylaws, see also the current issue of BS5546and BS6700.

If fitting to an existing system the local authority should beinformed.

4.11 Sealed water Systems

The installation must comply with the appropriate requirementsof the current issue of BS4814, BS5449, BS6759, BS6798 andBS7074 Part 1 and 2.

See diagram 4.3 for a suggested layout.

4.12 Safety Valve

A safety valve must be fitted to a sealed system.

It shall be preset, non-adjustable with a lift pressure of 3 bar,incorporating seating of a resilient material, a test device and aconnection for drain.

The drain from the safety valve must be routed outside thebuilding, must not discharge above an entrance or window orany type of public access area, be clear of any electrical fittingsand positioned so that any discharge can be seen.

4.13 Expansion VesselA diaphragm type expansion vessel, conforming to the currentissue of BS4814 (see also BS7074 Part 1 and 2) must beconnected at a point close to the inlet side of the circulatingpump, see the diagrammatic layout, diagram 4.3 unless laiddown differently by the manufacturer.

The expansion vessel volume depends on the total watersystem volume and the initial system design pressure. For anysystem an accurate calculation of vessel size is given in thecurrent issue of BS5449 and BS7074 Part 1.

Example: For an initial design pressure of 0.7 bar, the minimumtotal vessel volume required is 0.063 x Total System Volume.

NOTE: A higher initial design pressure requires a larger volumeexpansion vessel.

Guidance on vessel sizing is also given in the current issue ofBS5449 and BS7074 Part 1, for IE refer to the current edition ofI.S.813 "Domestic Gas Installations".

The charge pressure must not be less than the static head of thesystem, that is, the height of the highest point of the systemabove the expansion vessel.

4 Water System

4.14 Pressure GaugeA pressure gauge with a set pointer and covering at least 0 to4 bar (0 to 60 lb/in2) shall be fitted permanently to the system ina position where it can be seen when filling the system.

4.15 Domestic Hot Water CylinderSINGLE FEED INDIRECT CYLINDERS ARE NOT SUITABLE

The domestic hot water cylinder must be of the double feed fullyindirect coil type. It must be suitable for working at a gaugepressure of 0.35 bar above the safety valve setting.

4.16 Water Make-upProvision should be made for replacing water loss from thesystem using a make up bottle mounted in a position higher thanthe top point of the system, connected through a non-returnvalve to the return side of either the heating circuit or the hotwater cylinder.

Alternatively, provision for make up can be made using a fillingloop.

4.17 Filling a Sealed Water SystemProvision for filling the system at low level must be made, seediagram 4.4. There must be no permanent connection to themains water supply, even through a non-return valve.We do notrecommend filling using artificially softened water.

5.1 Appliance Pack

IMPORTANT: With regards to the Health and Safety ManualHandling requirements, two persons shall be required to lift theappliance, refer to manual handling on page 4.

Lift the boiler out of the carton

NOTE: The fittings pack and the flexible condensate outlet pipeare located in the base polystyrene packing under the boilerbase and the bottom cover is located at the back of the boiler.Remove both and put to one side.

Remove the polystyrene end packing pieces then carefully laythe boiler on its back, remove the two front casing panelsecuring screws and lift off the panel from two retaining lugs,see diagram 5.1.

Remove the transit packaging behind the front panel anddiscard.

Carefully place front panel and screws to one side.

5.2 Wall TemplateRemove the wall template from the documentation pack andplace in the desired position on a flat wall, giving due considerationto boiler clearances, see Section 2.2, and the flue you are fitting.

5 Installation Preparation

6.1 Hanging Bracket Fixing

If previously removed, reposition the wall template over the fluehole and mark the position of the fixing holes for the hangingbracket, see diagram 6.1.

Mark and drill the fixing holes and secure the hanging bracket,which is supplied in the polystyrene pack.

NOTE: Due to the varied site conditions we do not supply fixingsand advise that the installer should supply those which aresuitable.

6.2 Boiler Fixing

IMPORTANT: With regards to the Manual Handling Operations,1992 Regulations, the following lift operation exceeds therecommended weight for a one man lift, refer to Manual Handlingsection on page 4.

Lifting the boiler into position, lean the top of the boiler slightlyto the wall and position just above the hanging bracket. Lowerthe boiler slowly and engage onto the hanging bracket.

Make good the final connections.

5.3 Flue Hole CuttingThe standard horizontal flues are designed with an internalfall of 44mm/metre towards the boiler for disposal of condensate.If the standard flue length alone is being used then the flue holeof diameter 105mm can be cut in the position marked on the walltemplate.

For standard side flues the horizontal flue centre line on thewall template should be extended to the side wall, and thevertical centre of the flue hole marked at 176mm from the backwall.

For installations with external access, a 105mm diameter coredrill can be used.

For installations with internal access only a 125mm diametercore drill should be used.

When using extension pipes with the horizontal rear flue, a coredrill size of 125mm should be used to allow the extension piecesto slope at 44mm/metre (2.50) towards the boiler.

For extended side flues the flue hole centre should bedetermined by extending the dashed inclined line on the templateto the side wall. This dashed line is drawn at 44mm/metre (2.50)rise from the boiler. Where this line reaches the side wall, ahorizontal line should be marked. The vertical centre line of theflue should then be marked at 176mm from the back wall, seediagram 5.2.

To allow for the flue passing through the wall at this angle a125mm hole should be drilled irrespective of internal or externalinstallation.

If necessary remove the wall template whilst drilling the fluehole.

7.1 Gas ConnectionBefore connection check the supply of local gas.

The gas supply can be connected from below, see diagram 7.1.or through the wall at the rear of the boiler.

Refer also to section 1.2 and 1.3.

The whole of the gas installation, including the meter, should beinspected, tested for soundness and purged in accordance withthe document IGE/UP/1B.

7.2 Water ConnectionsProvision is made for the water connections to be made fromabove the boiler, see diagram 7.2. The position is shown on thewall template.

Flush out the domestic hot water and the heating systemsbefore connecting to the boiler.

7.3 Condensate Drain Connection

The condensate drain connection is at the rear of the boiler, seediagram 7.1. A flexible condensate outlet pipe is supplied loosein the base polystyrene packaging. The 900 end of the flexiblecondensate outlet pipe should be used to fit onto the spigot, todischarge condensate to a drain. The drain pipe 22mm to25mm OD. non corrosive plastic pipe should have a fall of atleast 2.50 away from the boiler.

Condensate should, if possible be discharged into the householdinternal drainage system. If this is not practicable, dischargecan be allowed into the external household drains or a purposedesigned soak away, refer to diagram 7.3.

It is recommended that any external condensate drain pipe ispreferably of 32mm diameter, to prevent freezing in adverseweather conditions.

The condensate is discharged periodically in ‘slugs’ by siphonicaction.

It is not necessary to provide air breaks or extra traps in thedischarge pipe as there is already a 75mm high trap inside theboiler. Fitting an extra trap may cause the boiler siphon to workincorrectly.

Refer to BS5546 or BS6798 for advice on disposal of boilercondensate.

8.3 Preparation

Telescopic:

The Telescopic Flue system MUST NOT be cut.

Adjust the flue to your required length "Y", ensure the air ductseams line up mark the securing hole position in the air duct.Drill a 3mm diameter hole at this position, take care not to piercethe inner flue duct. Secure with screw provided and tape thejoint, see diagram 8.5.

Standard:

Separate the flue duct from the terminal by twisting to releasethe terminal catch, then pull out of the retaining seal, refer todiagram 8.6.

The duct cutting lengths are shown in diagram 8.6.

The air duct should be cut at the opposite end to the terminalfixing.

The terminal plastic flue duct MUST be cut at the opposite endto the catch.

The plastic flue duct extensions MUST be cut at the oppositeend to seal.

The cut ducts must be de-burred and all filings and debrisremoved.

NOTE: If you require to lubricate the seals to ease installation,please do not use a mineral oil based grease, we wouldrecommend the use of water.

8.2 Flue Length

Top Rear flue - Standard - with the flue elbow temporarilyfitted, measure the distance from the outside wall to the buttjoint, see diagram 8.3. If the measurement 'Y' exceeds 652mm,then the appropriate length of extension pipe is required. Theminimum dimension is 187mm to suit a 75mm min wall thickness.

Top Rear flue - Telescopic - with the flue elbow temporarilyfitted, measure the distance from the outside wall to the buttjoint, see diagram 8.3. If the measurement 'Y' exceeds 525mm,then the appropriate length of extension pipe is required, if thedimension is less than 320mm DO NOT cut the flue, it canproject to a maximum of 600mm, if this is not desirable then aStandard flue MUST be used and cut to length.

Top Side flue - Standard - with the flue elbow temporarily fitted,measure the distance from the outside wall to the butt joint, seediagram 8.4. If the measurement 'Y' exceeds 652mm, then theappropriate length of extension pipe is required. The minimumdimension for Lhd is 270 and Rhd 167 to suit a minimum wallthickness of 75mm.

Top Side flue - Telescopic - with the flue elbow temporarilyfitted, measure the distance from the outside wall to the buttjoint, see diagram 8.4. If the measurement 'Y' exceeds 525mm,then the appropriate length of extension pipe is required, if thedimension is less than 320mm DO NOT cut the flue, it canproject to a maximum of 600mm, if this is not desirable then aStandard flue MUST be used and cut to length.

8.4 Flue Fitting (Telescopic and Standard)

Fit the rubber sealing collar behind the locating lugs on the flueterminal, see diagram 8.7.

Push the flue assembly into the wall, externally or internally,initially until the end of the assembly protrudes a short way fromthe inside face of the wall. This will enable the internal trim ring(ifrequired) to be positioned and allow the flue duct to be drawnback into the flue elbow.

Secure the flue elbow in position on top of the boiler with fourtorque headed screws supplied.

Draw the flue assembly from wall and engage the flue duct intothe elbow and butt fit between the air duct and flue elbow.

Enure alignment of the terminal.

Fit the collar into position, mark through two of the pre drilledholes in the collar. Remove collar and drill two 3mm diameterholes in the elbow, take care not to pierce the inner flue duct.

Fit the collar and secure with screws provided, see diagrams8.8 standard rear, 8.9 telescopic rear, 8.10 standard side and8.11 telescopic side.

WARNING: This boiler must be earthed.This appliance must be wired in accordance with theseinstructions. Any fault arising from incorrect wiring cannot beput right under the terms of the guarantee.

All system components must be of an approved type.

Electrical components have been tested to meet the equivalentrequirements of the BEAB.

Connection of the whole electrical system and any heatingsystem controls to the electrical supply must be through acommon isolator.

Isolation should preferably be by a double pole switched fusedspur box having a minimum contact separation of 3mm on eachpole. The fused spur box should be readily accessible andpreferably adjacent to the boiler. It should be identified as to itsuse.

A fused three pin plug and shuttered socket outlet may be usedinstead of a fused spur box provided that:

a) They are not used in a room containing a fixed bath orshower.

b) Both the plug and socket comply with the current issue ofBS1363.

The mains electrical supply must be maintained at all times inorder to provide domestic hot water.

Do not interrupt the mains supply with a time switch orprogrammer.

9.1 External controls (Mains Voltage)

Important: If a replacement supply cable is required it must bepurchased. Part No. S1008600.

Ensure that a separate external controls cable and pump supplycable are fed to the boiler.

Refer to wiring diagram in section 12.

The boiler is fitted with a connection box located at the base ofthe boiler into which all connections are made.

To gain access to the connection box remove the two retainingscrews indicated in Diagram 9.1 and carefully lower and pullforward the box to reveal the terminal strip inside.

Remove the test cable from the terminal strip and discard.

Connect both the mains supply and switched live from theexternal controls (room thermostat and, if applicable, frostthermostat) into the marked terminals as shown in diagram 9.2.

If a room thermostat is not fitted, then the connecting link mustbe fitted between terminals 1 and 2, see diagrams 9.2 and 12.2.

Connect the pump supply into the marked pump terminals asshown in diagram 9.2.

Observe all terminal markings and colour codes as shown indiagram 12.2.

NOTE: The boiler incorporates a pump overrun thermostat.Only feed the pump from the marked terminals in the connectionbox on the boiler, not from a separate supply.

Ensure that all flexible cords are routed through the strain reliefcable glands on the inlet of the connection box.

Refit the connection box to the underside of the boiler using thetwo retaining screws.

Please ensure the British Gas logbook is completed and leftwith the user.

10.1 Preliminaries - All SystemsRemove the casing panels, see diagram 10.1.

A competent person in accordance with the current issue ofBS6798 should carry out commissioning.

Make sure that the system has been thoroughly flushed out withcold water.

Refill the system with water, making sure that all the air isproperly vented from the system and pump, diagram 10.2shows vent point.

Before operating the boiler check that all external controls arecalling for heat. Do not operate the boiler without water.

Allow the system to reach maximum temperature then switchoff the boiler by isolating from the electrical supply.

Drain the entire system rapidly whilst hot, using the drain tap atthe lowest part of the system. Following completion of the hotflush, add inhibitor to the system.

9.3 Pump ConnectionEnsure that a separate pump supply cable is fed to the boiler,see diagram 9.2.

Remove connection box, see diagram 9.1.

Route the pump supply cable through the strain relief cablegland, connect to the connection box as shown in diagram 9.2.Refer to diagram 12.1 for wiring colour code.

Refit the connection box to the underside of the boiler using thetwo retaining screws.

10.2 Sealed SystemsFill the system until the pressure gauge registers therecommended pressure. Clear any air locks and check forleaks.

Release the cold water to the initial design pressure.

Ensure external controls are calling for heat. The boiler shouldfire automatically.

Allow the boiler to fire for a minimum of 60 seconds and then,using an electrical screwdriver, rotate the ‘service’ potentiometerfully clockwise, see diagram 10.5. This will allow the digitaldisplay to indicate the ‘flashing’ fan speed on the appliancefascia.

In the fully clockwise position the display should be indicatingthe maximum fan speed of the appliance which is factory set to18kW.

Use 'Pmax' potentiometer to adjust the fan speed to the numbercorresponding to the maximum output required, see table 4.

To adjust to 24 or 31kW output the security seal on the 'Pmax'potentiometer must be broken for access and adjustment.

Rotate the 'service' potentiometer fully anti-clockwise so thatthe digital display indicates the water temperature.

Check the gas rate, refer to Section 10.6.

Close the fascia panel and replace the chassis front, innercasing panel, front casing panel and fit the bottom cover , seediagram 10.6.

10.6 Testing - Gas (Natural Gas only)

Refer to Table 4 for Burner CO2 levels. Should any doubt existabout the gas rate, check it using the gas meter test dial andstop watch at least 10 minutes after the burner has lit, makingsure that all other gas burning appliances and pilot lights are off.

The gas valve is factory set for natural gas (G20) and shouldneed no adjustment. It should be checked that the supplypressure is 20mb when the boiler is firing at full rate. This canbe achieved by checking the inlet pressure at the pressure testpoint on the gas valve shown in diagram 10.3 using range ratingtable 4.

Disconnect pressure gauge.

Note that the burner pressure cannot be measured at the gasvalve as it is altered by the suction of the fan and modulatedaccording to demand.

Replace inner casing panel and casing panel.

10.7 Testing - Heating SystemCheck that all remote controls are calling for heat. The boiler willfire automatically. Fully open all radiator valves, flow controlvalve ‘A’ and bypass valve ‘B’, see diagram 4.3.

Balance the radiators as required and if fitted adjust valve ‘A’ togive the required system differential. Turn off all radiators thatcan be shut off by the user and check to see if less than themaximum differential allowed of 200C can be achieved acrossflow and return.

Allow the system to reach maximum temperature then switchoff the boiler by isolating from the electrical supply.

Drain the entire system rapidly whilst hot, using the drain tap atthe lowest part of the system. Fill and vent the system asdescribed previously in section 10.1.

Lock or remove the handles from controls valve ‘A’ to preventunauthorised adjustment.

10.8 User Controls and OptionsThe mains reset switch is used to restart the boiler after a faultcondition has occurred, i.e. ignition failure.

The water temperature control knob allows the user to set thedesired temperature.

Temperature Display

The digital display normally shows the operating temperatureof the unit.

10.3 Preparation for LightingIsolate the boiler from the mains electrical supply.

Test for gas soundness and purge air from the gas supply. Turnon the gas service cock, slot in line with the length of the valve,see diagram 7.1.

10.4 Initial Lighting

The lighting procedure of the boiler is fully automated.

Check that all external controls are calling for heat. If an integralprogrammer is fitted check that it is correctly programmed andif necessary overridden to provide heat.

Ensure that the water temperature control knob is turned OFF( ).

Turn on the mains electrical supply and the mains reset switchto (I) on the controls fascia.

Turn the water temperature control knob to ( ) MINIMUM.

The fan should start and after a few seconds the ignition willcommence

If the burner fails to light the fan will stop. Initially this may be dueto air in the gas supply line. The boiler will automatically havethree attempts at ignition.

If necessary turn the mains reset switch to the off position (O),then back to the on position (I) and the boiler will restart.

After the boiler has lit, allow to warm at MINIMUM temperaturesetting to purge any air from the system.

NOTE: If the appliance is operated above MINIMUM on initiallighting, there is a possibility that the overheat stat will trip, thisis due to air in the system having not been purged. See diagram10.4 for overheat thermostat/reset switch.

Once the system has been purged of air turn the central heatingknob to the desired temperature.

The appliance will then continue to fire until the user controls aresatisfied.

NOTE: After first power up the firing sequence for centralheating changes. After one minute stabilisation time the boilerwill ramp slowly to full rate rather than going immediately to fullrate. This is an adaptive feature to cope with small systemrequirements.

10.5 Range RatingNOTE: This appliance is factory set at 18kW output.

IMPORTANT: If the seal on the 'Pmax' potentiometer is brokenthe gas supply, without exception, must be capable of delivering31.3kW input.

On completion of the adjustment, the inlet working pressure ofthe appliance should be checked to ensure a steady inletworking pressure of 20Mbar is achieved.

The appliance data label must be completed to indicate themaximum output using the rate indicating label provided in theliterature pack.

NOTE: This appliance is suitable for installation with thermalstores, however, the appliance should be adjusted to give themaximum 31kW output.

To Adjust to 24 or 31kW:

Remove casing panel, see diagram 10.1.

With the power off and the appliance cold, unclip the controlsfascia and hinge it down to reveal the potentiometers on the rearof the User interface, see diagram 10.5. Take care not to allowthe fascia to drop down and damage the wiring.

Turn on the electrical supply.

10.9 Pump Exercise ProgramAfter a power cut or every 24 hour in frost setting/summer modethe pump will run for one minute to prevent it from sticking. Thiswill also occur during normal operating if there is no demand formore than 24 hours

10.10 Frost ProtectionThe boiler has a built in frost protection programme as long asthe electricity and gas are left switched on.

This device operates the burner and system pump when thetemperature inside the boiler falls to 30C.

When the temperature inside the appliance reaches 10°C theburner will shut down and after a short period the pump will stop.

This device primarily protects the boiler. Any other exposedareas of the system should be protected by a separate frostthermostat.

10 Commissioning

10.11 Instruct the UserInstruct and demonstrate the lighting procedure and advise theuser on the safe and efficient operation of the boiler.

Instruct on and demonstrate the operation of any heatingsystem controls.

Advise the user on the use and maintenance of any scalereducer and pass on any relevant instructional documents.

Advise that to ensure the continued efficient and safe operationof the boiler it is recommended that it is checked and servicedat regular intervals. The frequency of servicing will depend uponthe installation conditions and usage, but in general, once ayear should be enough.

Draw attention, if applicable, to the current issue of the GasSafety (Installation and Use) Regulations, Section 35, whichimposes a duty of care on all persons who let out any propertycontaining a gas appliance.

It is the Law that any servicing is carried out by a competentperson.

Advise the user that, like all condensing boilers this appliancewill produce a plume of condensation from the flue terminal incool weather. This is due to the high efficiency and hence lowflue gas temperature of the boiler.

Advise the user of the precautions necessary to prevent damageto the system, boiler and the building, in the event of the heatingsystem being out of use during frost or freezing conditions.

Advise the user that the permanent mains electrical supplySHOULD NOT be switched off, as the built in frost protectionand pump saver program would not be operable.

Reminder, leave these instructions and the British Gas logbookwith the user.

10.12 Completion

Adjust the boiler temperature control and any system controlsto their required settings. In addition it is necessary to completethe British Gas logbook.

NOTE: Scottish Gas only. Remove the British Gas badge fromthe front casing panel. Replace with the Scottish Gas badgesupplied in the fixing pack.

Testing Flue Gases: If any doubt exists that the flue productsare not exhausting correctly, investigate by use of a gasanalyser (FGA).

For IE, it is necessary to complete a "Declaration of Conformity"to indicate compliance to I.S.813. An example of this is given inthe current edition of I.S.813.

11 Servicing

IMPORTANT NOTES:1. To ensure the continued efficient and safe operation of the boiler it is recommended that it is checked and serviced atregular intervals. The frequency of servicing will depend upon the particular installation and usage, but in general once a yearshould be enough.

2. It is the Law that any servicing is carried out by a competent person.

3. Before commencing with a service or replacement of parts the boiler should be isolated from the electrical supply and thegas supply should be turned off at the gas isolation valve.

4. When replacing a part on this appliance, use only spare parts that you can be assured conform to the safety andperformance specification that we require. Do not use reconditioned or copy parts that have not been clearly authorised byBritish Gas.

5. On completion of sevicing the "Benchmark" log book should be completed.

11.1 General Inspection

Prior to servicing carry out an initial inspection of the following:

1. Condition of case and flue.

2. Flue terminal for obstructions.

3. Electrical supply connections.

4. Water connections.

5. Gas connection.

6. System pressure.

11.2 Functional Checks

With the appliance operational carry out the following functionalchecks:

1. Check the combustion, preferably with a flue gas analyser asdescribed in section 11.8. If a flue gas analyser is not availableremove the outer and inner case, see diagram 10.1, and takingcare not to touch any components, check the flame picturethrough the viewing window, diagram 11.1.

Should the flame show signs of lift, sooting or appear yellowthen it will be necessary to service the burner, if the servicingdoes not correct the condition, then proceed to the combustiontest described in section 11.8.

2. Measure the gas rate during operation. If the gas rate is lowerthan the minimum gas rate the burner will require servicing.

Should the combustion measurement or flame and gas rate becorrect, then it is not necessary to remove the burner assemblyfor a service.

11.3 Servicing

All routine servicing requirements can be achieved by theremoval of the front panel and inner panel and chassis frontonly.

Before commencing with a service or replacement of parts. Theboiler should be isolated from the electrical supply and the gassupply should be turned off at the gas service cock, seediagrams 11.2 and 11.3.

Unless stated otherwise parts are replaced in the reverse orderto removal

011.4 Spark Electrode

Disconnect the electrode lead and two securing screws.Withdraw the spark electrode carefully from the combustionchamber, see diagram 11.4 and 11.6.

Inspect the tips for damage.

Clean away any debris and check the spark gap is 3.5 to 4.5mm.

Check the electrode gasket for signs of damage and replace ifnecessary.

11.5 Burner

NOTE: IF THE FUNCTIONAL CHECKS DID NOT INDICATEPOOR COMBUSTION THEN IT IS NOT NECESSARY TOSERVICE THE BURNER.

The following procedure will require that you replace the burnerdoor seal and nyloc nuts.

Disconnect the gas supply at the gas service cock.

NOTE: DO NOT DISCONNECT AT THE GAS VALVE.

Remove the two gas pipe bracket securing screws fromunderside of inner case, see diagram 11.3.

Drop down the control panel into the service position.

Remove the four screws from the chassis front, see diagram11.5.

Remove the chassis front by pulling it out at the top from itsretaining slots.

NOTE: When replacing chassis front panel ensure the bottomfits behind lip.

Disconnect the gas valve electrical plug at the gas valve, seediagram 11.6.

Disconnect the electrical leads from the fan.

Remove the five combustion chamber burner door securingnuts, see diagram 11.7, these should be discarded and replacedwith the new nylocs nuts supplied in the burner door seal kit.

Gently remove the fan, gas valve and burner assembly from thecombustion chamber complete with the gas pipe bracket andseal.

Clean the burner with a soft brush taking great care not todamage the front insulation. DO NOT use wire or sharpinstruments to clean the holes of the burner.

Inspect the burner for any signs of damage.

Removal of the burner is not necessary during a normal service,see diagram 11.7.

NOTE: IF THE BURNER HAS TO BE REMOVED IT WILLREQUIRE A NEW GASKET WHEN REFITTED, REFER TODIAGRAM 11.8.

Remove and discard the burner door seal and replace with newsee diagram 11.7.

NOTE: When replacing ensure that the sealing grommet,situated below the gas valve is correctly re-seated

11.6 Combustion Chamber and HeatExchanger.Refer to diagram 11.7.

Remove loose debris from combustion chamber using a softbrush and vacuum cleaner. Carefully flush by spraying waterany remaining debris through the condensate trap (Ensure thewater is kept away from electrical components).

11.7 Condensate DrainThe condensate drain does not normally need removing duringservicing.

To flush the condensate drain carefully pour water into the heatexchanger and check that water flows freely to drain.

If the condensate drain becomes blocked refer to section 13.16for removal.

11.8 Combustion CheckOnce the appliance has been reassembled (apart from the frontand inner casing panels) connect a flue gas analyser to thesample point on the flue elbow, see diagram 11.9.

Turn on the gas service cock, see diagram 11.3.

With the power off and the appliance cold, unclip the controlsfascia and hinge it down to reveal the potentiometers on the rearof the User interface, see diagram 11.10. Take care not to allowthe fascia to drop down and damage the wiring.

Turn on the electrical supply.

Ensure external controls are calling for heat. The boiler shouldfire automatically.

Allow the boiler to fire for a minimum of 60 seconds and then,using an electrical screwdriver, rotate the ‘service’ potentiometerfully clockwise, see diagram 11.10. This will allow the digitaldisplay to indicate the ‘flashing’ fan speed on the appliancefascia.

This should correspond to the range rated output of the boiler,as indicated on the boiler data label. If the appliance is set to18kW and the security label on the Pmax potentiometer is intactthis is the maximum output for the boiler. If the seal is broken theoutput should be taken as 31kW, with an adequate gas supply,see Range Rating Table 4, in section 10.

Carry out a performance test, the CO2 level should be 9.1% ±0.3.

If adjustment is necessary, refer to section 13.5, Replacementof Parts.

Turn the service potentiometer back fully anti-clockwise toreturn the boiler to normal operation, close the front fascia paneland replace the cap on the sampling point.

11.9 Inner Casing Panel Seal Check.Refer to diagram 11.11.

Check the condition of the seal, replace as required.

To replace remove the old seal, thoroughly clean the casingsurfaces. Fit the new seal, it is supplied to the correct length.

11.10 Completion

The Benchmark log book should be completed.

12.1 Important NotesBefore trying to operate the boiler make sure that :

• All gas supply cocks are open and that the gas supply has been purged of air.

• There is a permanent mains supply to the boiler.

• There is a heating demand from the external controls.

Always check for gas soundness after any service work.

12.2 Electrical TestingShould there be any doubt about the voltage supply to any of thecomponents, it is possible to carry out a simple electrical test.

Important. On completion of the Service/Fault Finding taskswhich have required the breaking and remaking of the electricalconnections the earth continuity, polarity, short circuit andresistance to earth checks must be repeated using a suitablemultimeter.

To carry out the electrical test, gain access, as follows:

Hinge down the control box and remove Torx screws andunhook the rear panel, refer diagram 12.1.

13.1 Important Notes

When replacing a part on this appliance, use only spare partsthat you can be assured conform to the safety and performancespecification that we require. Do not use reconditioned or copyparts that have not been clearly authorised by British Gas.

Replacement of parts must be carried out by a competentperson.

Before replacing any parts the boiler must be isolated from themains electric supply and the gas must be turned off at theservice cock on the boiler, see diagrams 11.2 and 11.3.

Unless stated otherwise parts are replaced in the reverse orderto removal.

After replacing any parts always test for gas soundness and ifnecessary carry out functional test of the controls.

For replacement of parts, remove the casing panels and chassisfront panel of the boiler, see diagrams 10.1 and 11.5 .

Remove the two screws on the underside of the front casing,then undo the two screws on the front of the inner front paneland lift off. Remove the four screws from the chassis frontpanel, then remove it by pulling it out at the top from its retainingslots.

NOTE: When replacing chassis front panel ensure the bottomfits behind the lip.

The side panels can be hinged sideways to aid replacement ofparts.

Undo and remove the three screws securing each side panel tothe boiler, two at the front and one at the top.

NOTE: The following replacement parts in sections 13.5 to 13.9will require the removal of the burner door assembly. This willrequire that you replace the burner door seal and nyloc nuts.

13.2 Spark Electrode

For access, refer to section 13.1.

Remove the spark plug lead, earth lead and two securingscrews. Withdraw the spark electrode carefully from thecombustion chamber, see diagram 11.4.

13.3 Igniter Unit

For access, refer to section 13.1.

Remove ignition lead and electrical connections, see diagram13.4.

Remove igniter unit by removing two securing screws, seedigram 13.4.

13.4 Ignition Lead

For access, refer to section 13.1.

Refer to diagram 11.6.

Pull the spark plug style connector off the spark electrode andthe spade connector connected to the igniter unit.

13 Replacement of Parts

13.5 Gas Valve

For access, refer to section 13.1.

Refer to section 11.5 for removal of the fan, gas valve andburner assembly.

Before removing the gas valve note its position on the fan.

Remove the three securing screws, which fix the gas valve,plastic swirl plate to the venturi on the fan.

Remove the gas valve.

Remove the gas supply pipe from the gas valve.

When refitting the gas valve take care as it can be fitted morethan one way.

After assembly test for gas soundness and purge in accordancewith the current issue of BS6891 or in IE, the current edition ofI.S.813 "Domestic Gas Installations".

Once the appliance has been reassembled (apart from the frontand inner casing panels) the gas valve may require adjustment.Connect a CO2 combustion analyser to the sampling point onthe flue elbow, see diagram 11.8.

Turn on the gas service cock, see diagram 11.3.

With the power off and the appliance cold, unclip the controlsfascia and hinge it down to reveal the potentiometers on the rearof the User interface, see diagram 11.10. Take care not to allowthe fascia to drop down and damage the wiring.

Turn on the electrical supply.

Ensure external controls are calling for heat. The boiler shouldfire automatically.

Allow the boiler to fire for a minimum of 60 seconds and then,using an electrical screwdriver, rotate the ‘service’ potentiometerfully clockwise, see diagram 11.10. This will allow the digitaldisplay to indicate the ‘flashing’ fan speed on the appliancefascia.

This should correspond to the range rated output of the boiler,as indicated on the boiler data label. If the appliance is set to18kW and the security label on the Pmax potentiometer is intactthis is the maximum output for the boiler. If the seal is broken theoutput should be taken as 31kW, with an adequate gas supply,see Range Rating Table 4.

If adjustment proves necessary then proceed as follows:

Any adjustment to the gas valve should only be carried out bya competent person.

Refer to diagram 10.3.

Adjust the CO2 with the throttle to 9.1% + 0.3 - 0.3.(Rotate anti-clockwise to increase).

Rotate the ‘service’ potentiometer fully anti-clockwise. Hold itin this position for about 5 seconds before rotating the servicepotentiometer clockwise to the mid-point or 3 o’clock position.The fan should reduce to 1200 rpm which will flash ‘12’ on thedigital display.

Check the CO2 value which should be 9.1% + 0.3 - 0.3.

If adjustment of the CO2 at minimum rate is required, it is verycoarse so carefully adjust the CO2 with the offset adjustment to9.1%, see diagram 10.3.

Rotate the ‘service’ potentiometer fully clockwise, see diagram11.10, and recheck the combustion, which should be 9.1% +0.3 -0.3.

Turn the service potentiometer back fully anti-clockwise toreturn the boiler to normal operation, close the front fascia paneland replace the cap on the sampling point.

13.11 Heat ExchangerRefer to Manual Handling section on page 4.

Drain the boiler.

Remove the clip securing the clear condense pipe to heatexchanger.

Pull to remove the clear condense pipe out of the bottom of theheat exchanger.

Undo the two nuts of the flow and return pipes from the heatexchanger, see diagram 13.4.

Move the pipes away from the heat exchanger.

Loosen the three heat exchanger securing screws and clamps(two at the top and one at the bottom) to remove the heatexchanger, see diagram 13.4.

CAUTION: There will be water in the heat exchanger.

Remove clear condense pipe connector from bottom of heatexchanger.

13.16 Condensate Trap and Siphonic DrainRefer to diagram 13.7.

Remove the clips securing the flexible tubes to the adapter bytwisting the clips slightly to disengage the clip jaws from eachother.

Remove flexible tubes from adapter.

Lift off the adapter.

Remove the drain connection downstream of the condensetrap.

Remove the two condense trap securing screws. Lift up andcarefully remove the condense trap taking care not to spill anywater which may be left in the unit. As the unit is lifted removethe flexible pipe on the outlet.

Remove any solids found.

Before removing the float note it's orientation.

Remove the float to clean it.

Flush water through the trap to remove any remaining solids.

Check for any debris in the outlet pipe of the condensate drainand clean as necessary.

Reassemble and refit the condensate trap.

IMPORTANT: Please remove spigot bung before fittingcondensate drain connection.

Using a suitable container, flush the heat exchanger until thewater appears clear in the container.

Reassemble adapter.

13.17 Inner Casing Sealing PanelRefer to section 11.9.

13.18 Access to Switches, User Interface and230v controls InterfaceFor access, refer to section 13.1.

Release the front of the controls fascia by carefully prising upthe two retaining latches, see diagram 11.10.

Do not allow the front of the fascia to swing down and be looselyheld by the electrical connections to the mains reset switch anduser interface. Either remove the connections or support thefascia.

Take care to avoid triphazards, slippery or wet surfaces and when climbing steps and stairs.When transferring appliance into roofspace, recommend 1 person to bein roofspace to receive the appliance and other person to be below topass up and support appliance. Ensure safe lifting techniques are used– keep back straight – bend using legs. Keep load as close to body aspossible. Always use assistance if required. It is assumed safe access,flooring and adequate lighting are provided in the roof space. It isrecommended a risk assessment of the roof space area be carried outbefore moving the appliance into the area to take into account access,stability of flooring, lighting and other factors, and appropriate measurestaken.

Unpacking of appliance from carton.

Recommend 2 persons unpack appliance from carton. Always keepworking area clear. Recommend cut base end of carton and opencarton flaps, then tilt boiler forwards from its side onto its base andremove carton by sliding up over the boiler. Ensure safe lifting techniques

are used – keep back straight – bend using legs. Keep load as close tobody as possible. Always use assistance if required. Dispose ofpackaging in a responsible manner. Recommend wear suitable cutresistant gloves with good grip to protect against sharp edges andensure good grip when handling appliance outside packaging.

Positioning of Appliance for Final Installation – no obstructions.

Recommend 2 persons lift appliance to position into place. Fit bracketsecurely onto wall before lifting appliance into position. Obtain firm gripon front and sides of appliance, lift upwards, ensure stable balanceachieved and lift upwards to position in place on bracket. Ensure safelifting techniques are used – keep back straight – bend using legs - whenlifting load from floor level. Do not twist – reposition feet instead. Keepboiler as close as possible to body throughout lift to minimise strain onback. Ensure co-ordinated movements to ensure equal spread ofweight of load. Always use assistance if required. Recommend wearsuitable cut resistant gloves with good grip to protect against sharpedges and ensure good grip when handling appliance.

If 1 person positioning onto bracket recommend obtainfirm grip supporting base of boiler. Ensure safe lifting techniques areused – keep back straight – bend using legs - when lifting load from floorlevel. Do not twist – reposition feet instead. Keep boiler as close aspossible to body throughout lift to minimise strain on back. Always useassistance if required. Recommend wear suitable cut resistant gloves with goodgrip to protect against sharp edges and ensure good grip when handlingappliance.
