John de Beer and Capriccio Clarinet Orchestra

John studied clarinetwithReinierHoogerheideat the conservatory inGroningenwiththe saxophone as second instrument. He studied composition with Willem FrederikBon.Since1999hehasbeenchairmanofNERV, theDutchSingleReedAssociation,and organizes conventions, clarinet days and Masterclasses. He has conductedvarious Clarinet Choirs worldwide during festivals and concerts. As a guest teacherhe is associated with the staff of the ClariSax Days in Italy, the International ClarinetFestival in Hungary and the International Chamber Music Days in Norway.Furthermore, de Beer has given masterclasses and courses in, amongst others,England, America, Norway, Switzerland, Russia, Italy, Norway, Australia, Denmarkand Slovenia.

John founded the Capriccio Clarinet Orchestra in 1989. The past 28 years studentsfrom the Clockhuys Center for Art and Culture in Haren and the Kielzog Arts Centerin Hoogezand have enjoyed rehearsing to give concerts everywhere; indeed theensemblehasgivenmanyconcerts by invitation, both in theNetherlandsandabroad.Concert trips have beenmade toWestern European countries, and also to Hungary,Australia, Russia and Japan. In this sense, the orchestra is rightly a calling card formusic education in its region, continuing to be alive and full of ambition.

Charles Hine and The British Clarinet Ensemble

Charles Hine is a prize-winning graduate of the Royal Academy of Music. He hasachieved distinction as a solo and orchestral clarinettist and undertaken numerousinternational tours as well as broadcasting regularly for the BBC on radio andtelevision. He is a founder member of the VegaWind Quintet, the first such group tobe invited to appear at the Proms. He has also developed a career as a conductorof Wind Orchestras and other groups such as the British Clarinet Ensemble,appearing in major venues and festivals in Europe, the USA and Japan. Charles hastaught in a wide range of educational establishments including posts in Rome, theCairo Conservatoire, the Royal College of Music and Colchester Institute as well asdelivering master classes and workshops in conservatoires and colleges at homeand abroad.

TheBritishClarinet Ensemblewas formed in 1995 under the auspices of theClarinetand Saxophone Society of Great Britain. Its members include professional andamateur players, teachers and students. Since its inception the ensemble haschampioned British composers, regularly commissioning new works and enhancingthe repertoire. In the UK, performances have been given at British Association ofSymphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles (BASBWE) and CASSGB conferences.Since their first tour to Finland and British debut in 1995 the BCE has performed inBelgium, Italy, Japan, Spain and the USA at the International Clarinet Association’s“Clarinetfests”, in Hungary and Poland for the European Clarinet and SaxophoneSociety andHolland for theNetherlandsSingleReedSociety. In 2010 they appearedat the 1st European Clarinet festival in Kortrijk, Belgium and then at EuropeanClarinet Festivals held inGhent, Belgium in January 2013andOctober 2015. To datetheyhave recorded threehighlyacclaimedCDs– “GordianKnots”, Looping theLoop”and “Calles de la Flores”.
