TRANSCRIPT
What a year we had! The phenomenal changes you made possible in the lives of nearly 200,000 children fi ll me with
hope, gratitude and deep determination. In 2019, 84% of our spending went toward life-changing programs, and we continue to receive high ratings and awards from charity review organizations. Additionally, more than 16,000 new supporters joined the Children International family.
We continued strengthening and expanding the foundational pillars of our work in health, education, empowerment and employment. Out of all the stories of innovation and transformation you’ve made possible this year, here are a few of my favorites:
Keidy Sosa is one of nearly 1,300 gainfully employed youth graduates of our Into Employment®
program; in her position as a chef in the Honduran Air Force, she served a meal to the First Lady of Honduras! Tatiana, a frustrated second grader in Ecuador, couldn’t even write the letter ‘A’ when she enrolled in our tutoring program; she was reading and writing within two months. A volunteer mom in Barranquilla, Colombia, convinced the mayor to pave the dirt roads in her underserved community … a change that will
signifi cantly reduce upper respiratory infections communitywide. Our CI Youth Councils, comprised of more than 4,000 democratically-elected leaders, planned and completed 151 community-improvement projects and benefi ted more than 150,000 people globally.
With 24% of the world’s population between the ages of 10 and 24, today’s generation of youth is the largest in history. That means the investments you make in young people today will have a multiplier eff ect that will impact generations to come. I am inspired every day by your generosity and passionate commitment to help end poverty. Together, our kids, families, staff , volunteers, supporters and partners are a powerful force for good. Thank you for being part of this determined, confi dent community of people working through Children International to help change the course of history!
Gratefully,
