Dear reader, Welcome to an Infosylva special edition on the 18th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held recently in Doha. In conjunction with the COP, about 700 forestry experts, activists, policymakers, global leaders and climate change negotiators gathered on 2 December 2012 for the sixth annual Forest Day. As part of the Forest Day programme, participants at a roundtable on strengthening intersectoral collaboration in REDD+ agreed that to protect forests, we need to think beyond them. We need to take a landscape view: only when forestry, water, agriculture, mining and other relevant sectors and industries are brought to the same table will we be able to slow the drivers of deforestation. Also in this edition: - China announces the construction of a pilot demonstration area of bamboo forests to promote the expansion of carbon sinks - Namibia wins an award for initiating six strategies on coping with climate change vulnerability. En conjunción con la COP, alrededor de 700 expertos forestales, activistas, políticos, líderes mundiales y los negociadores de cambio climático se reunieron el 2 de diciembre de 2012 para la sexta edición del Día de los Bosques. Como parte del programa del Día de los Bosques, los participantes de una mesa redonda sobre el fortalecimiento de la colaboración intersectorial en REDD + estuvieron de acuerdo que para proteger los bosques, tenemos que pensar más allá de ellos. Hay que tener una visión de territorio (landscape): sólo cuando la silvicultura, el agua, la agricultura, la minería y otros sectores pertinentes y la industria se sienten alrededor de la

misma mesa, vamos ser capaces de frenar las causas de la deforestación. Conjointement à la COP, environ 700 experts forestiers, activistes, décisionnaires, leaders mondiaux et négociateurs sur les changements climatiques se sont rencontrés le 2 décembre 2012 pour la 6ème Journée annuelle des Forêts. Dans le cadre du programme de la journée, les participants à une table ronde sur le renforcement de la collaboration intersectorielle du projet REDD+ ont convenu que, pour protéger les forêts, il faut penser au delà d’elles : il faut avoir une vision du territoire (landscape). Seulement quand les parties prenantes du secteur des forêts, de la gestion de l’eau, de l’agriculture, des minières, des autres activités portantes du territoire et de l’industrie se réuniront autour de la même table, nous serons en mesure de ralentir les causes de la déforestation. Et encore dans cette édition : - La Chine a annoncé la construction d’une zone de démonstration pilote de forêts de bambou pour promouvoir l’expansion des réductions de carbone. - La Namibie a remporté un prix à Doha pour avoir mis en place six stratégies visant à faire face à la vulnérabilité due aux changements climatiques.
