How the BYO iPad Program aligns with the Australian Curriculum
O General capabilities are a key dimension of the
Australian Curriculum. These capabilities incorporate
knowledge, skills and behaviours that will assist
students to live and work successfully in the twenty-
first century. The BYO iPad Program supports the
following general capabilities:

Program misconceptionsO Students will use iPads 100% of the school

O iPad classes don’t do any bookwork
O Students won’t practise handwriting in an
iPad class
O iPad classes follow a different curriculum and
do different assessment
O Students will use their iPads at lunch time to
play games they have downloaded from home

Safety and Security O At school, the iPad is only to be connected to Education
Queensland’s Managed Internet Service.
O Access to 3G Internet at school is not permitted.
O For security reasons students cannot share account
names and passwords with other students.
O Students are responsible for the security and use of
their iPad while at Grand Avenue State School.
Lockable storage will be provided for students to place
their equipment in when the device is not being used
and during lunch and play breaks.
O Parents and teachers will perform checks to monitor
iPad for appropriate use.
You and your child’s responsibilities

O I understand that I must bring my personal iPad to school
each day.
O I will ensure the iPad is charged at the beginning of all school
days.
O I will keep food and drink away from it at all times.
O I will ensure my iPad is kept in my school bag to/from school.
O I will be cybersafe and cybersmart at all times and show
etiquette with regard to other people.
O I will immediately report any breakages or accidents to my
teachers and parents.

O I will supply the program requirements listed above by the notified day in Term 1 Week 2, 2018.
O If the iPad is damaged, lost or stolen at home, in transit or at school, I will ensure it is repaired or replaced as soon as possible. I understand that I must meet the cost of this.
O I will put in place consistent practices to ensure the safe carriage of the iPad to and from school.
O I understand that if these conditions are not met my child may lose their place in the BYO iPad program at any time throughout the year.
2018 Program RequirementsO The iPad Air 2, Apple iPad (5th Generation) and the iPad Pro
(2016 and 2017) have been chosen for the BYO iPad Program, and will complement the learning with other ICT devices across the school.
O The earliest iPad versions (iPad 1, iPad2, iPad Mini, iPad Air) are not suitable for use in the school program as they are unable to load Apple’s operating system (IOS10) and many apps cannot be updated.
O This enables a consistent approach to ensure best productivity in order to maximise student-learning outcomes and provide technical support to students and parents when necessary.
