Intermediate Class Description
Think you have the basics down pat? We start with coding in PPS, including changes effective for 2012, with special at-tention to coding the case mix diagnoses appropriately. Those who code accurately shouldn’t miss out on the case mix points that less skilled coders may miss, nor should they be accused of upcoding. With governmental entities and contrac-tors such as the OIG, PGBA and the ZPICs targeting homecare, this is the time to ensure that your coders are coding cor-rectly and to protect your revenue. We will code common home care scenarios along with more complex scenarios. Appli-cation of the official guidance is the name of the game. Find out how diagnoses affect your outcomes and discuss those diagnoses causing problems in medical review. This seminar is a good preparatory for taking the HCS-D exam. The HCS-D exam will be offered if we have enough interest.
Registration for the HCS-D exam is a separate form and payment. To register please fill out the form and either fax it or mail it to the Board of Medical Specialty Coding and Compliance.
For more information about the exam please go to www.medicalspecialtycoding.com
Beginning Coding Class Description We will learn how to use the coding manual and learn to apply the conventions and the basics of sequencing. Common home care diagnoses with specific sequencing rules will be discussed and presented. The attendees will leave the course with enough information to begin successful and accurate coding.

SUB-HEAD
When you’re writing a brochure,
write it so that someone who has
never heard of your company can
understand what you’re offering as
quickly as possible. Stay away from
using jargon, acronyms, or compli-
cated terms.
If you’re not sure what to write,
make a list of “what we do” and
then a list of “why our products or
services are the best.” Use that in-
formation to create your brochure.

The Home Care Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) is becoming the benchmark for home care coding certification. Earning the HCS-D credential demonstrates your mastery of coding skills and your commitment to bringing appropriate reimbursement dollars to your agency. HCS-D certified coders are in high demand in the health care setting for their ability to ensure correct reimbursement and reduce the risk of audit. Plus, HCS-D credential holders have the confidence, language and credibility needed for productive interactions with physicians and care providers. Our most successful HCS-D candidates have at least 2 years coding in a Home Health setting. The HCS-D examination contains 50 questions, and you will be allowed 2 ½ hours to com-plete the examination. You will receive your examination results via USPS within 6 weeks of taking your examination. We recommend that those attendees who plan the HCS-D credential examination prepare for the test with self study in addition to this onsite training program. The exam will be offered following this event on January 19.
