A day in the life of a college student and her professor
Professor Ling is grading Biology 101 assignments late at night using Brightspace Assignment Grader on her tablet. A lot of students seem
to be getting questions on Unit 4 incorrect. She takes a look at the Class Engagement Dashboard and realizes that a number of students
aren’t engaging with the material.
She decides to create a new gamified course module using the tools in the Brightspace Course Adventure Pack. She assigns the course
module and starts a discussion about the topic, asking her students to comment on where they find the material confusing.
One of the biology students, Laura, checks her Brightspace Pulse mobile app and notices the new discussion posted by her professor and
that her grades are available for the latest quiz, as well as the new course module assignment. She adds a comment about how she is still struggling to understand the difference between meiosis and mitosis.
Later that day, while Laura is on her lunch break at work, she’s able to log into her professor’s lecture as it’s streaming via Brightspace
Capture. Unfortunately, the internet coverage is poor, but the event seamlessly adapts from HD to SD, so she can keep watching the
lecture without interruption.
Professor Ling takes a look at the discussion board and notices that everyone is confused about the same topic as Laura. She spends some
time explaining mitosis in greater detail, then launches a discussion poll to see if her students better grasp the concept. Laura now understands the concept, so she answers the poll indicating her
comprehension.
Back in the office, Professor Ling takes another look at the Class Engagement Dashboard. She sees many more students are engaged
because of her recent activities. She checks out the User Progress Tool, and is able to dig deeper to view individual student engagement,
identify those who are most at risk, and help get them back on track.
