Vincent Dance TheatreIf We Go On

If you had one last dance, what shape would it take? A still dance? A silent dance? A song? A joke? A tearjerker? This intriguing proposal is the guiding principle behind the latest dance theatre production from leading UK company Vincent Dance Theatre.

An exceptional ensemble of multitasking performers and musicians responds to thisquestion in a series of individual acts that lay bare the very mechanics of theatre.Together they morph words into movement, shunt gesture into sound and even burstinto song to create a performance they can believe in.

Through miniature dances, militant manifestoes and extended exits, If We Go Onembraces uncertainty, hesitancy and not knowing with a dark, intelligent humour.

Suitable for age 15+Contains adult themes and language

bgroupabout around

Brighton-based, Jerwood award-winning dancer/choreographer (Richard Alston,Ricochet) Ben Wright is back with a brand new show. His contemporary danceensemble bgroup made its Brighton debut in 2008 with the ‘Time Out Critic's Choice’dance triple bill The Diminishing Present.

about around seats its audience in a ring of 50 chairs. The dancers enact a sequenceof events that chart the passing of an hour, exploring ritualistic conventions fromprimitive to modern day. The result is an intimate experience that brings you so closeto the skin of the performance, you’re almost within it. An immersive 60-minute act ofattention that layers the visual and aural and lets the audience do the mixing.

One of the great pianists of our time...The Independent

Radu Lupu

Janacek In the MistBeethoven Sonata No. 23 in F minor Op. 57

Appassionata

Schubert Sonata No. 20 in A major D959

In a rare UK visit, Grammy-winning Romanian concertpianist Radu Lupu takes to the Brighton Dome stage foran intimate solo recital. Lupu is one of the foremostpianists of his generation. He is also a peerlessinterpreter of the Austro-German tradition, reflected intonight's programme.

Beethoven's posthumously christened ‘Appassionata’was composed in 1804. Since then, the ‘titanic’ andtechnically demanding four-movement sonata hasbeen the subject of some suitably potent mythmaking;not least, Lenin's alleged crisis of revolutionary faith onbeholding this 'wonderfully ethereal music'.

Overshadowed by the spectre of death (the composerpassed away soon after its completion) and by theweight of Beethoven's own legacy in the form,Schubert’s Sonata No. 20 in A Major (the second in histrilogy of ‘late sonatas’) is informed by a melancholicintrospection. In similarly solipsistic mood, the last ofJanacek's mature piano cycles, In the Mist (1913) –which opens this concert – is an intimate confession ofa profoundly personal anguish.

Pinter's PeopleFamily Voices, Victoria Station, A Kind of Alaska

Brighton's own Incisor Theatre Company presents atriple bill tribute to the late great Harold Pinter.

Family Voices is a dark and heady brew of unresolvedsexuality and gallows humour. A macabre vaudevilledouble act, Victoria Station visits familiar Pinter terrain:isolation, dependency and rage. Inspired byAwakenings by Oliver Sacks MD, A Kind of Alaskaevokes a suitably icy desolation.

First produced together by the National Theatre in 1982(under the title Other Places) – and loosely linked by thetheme of ‘distance’ – these compelling 'miniatures’deliver a typically Pinteresque punch.
