BrightSource Energy’s rst project is the Ivanpah Solar Power Complex, scheduled to begin construction in the second hal o 2010. Locat ed in Ivanpah, Cali ornia, the 3,500 acre site will produce approxi- mately 400 megawatts (MW) o clean renewable energy. The project will provide power under a 1,300 megawatt contract or Southern Cali ornia Edison and a 1,310 megawatt contract with Paci c Gas and Electric company. When completed, the Ivanpah Solar Energy Generat ing System will nearly double the amount o commercial solar thermal electricity produced in the US today. World-class Partners In addition to supplying power to Cali- ornia’s two largest utilities – PG&E and Southern Cali ornia Edison – the Ivanpah project brings together the US Depart- ment o Energy and some o the world’s most respected engineering rms. BrightSource has partnered with Bechtel, the world’s pre- mier engineering, construction and project management rm, as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor or the Ivanpah Solar Electricit y Generating System. In addition, Bechtel Enterprises, the project development and nancing arm o the Bechtel or- ganization, will become an equity investor in all o the Ivanpah solar power plants. The Ivanpah project has re- ceived a conditional commit- ment or a nearly $1.4 billion loan guarantee by the US De- partment o Energy (DOE) to help und this project. The loan is part o the DOE’s Title XVII loan guarantee program, which was started in 2005 un der the Energy Policy Act, to support com mercially viable technology in addition to innovative renewable energy technology. In December 2008, Bright- Source signed an agreement with Siemens or the largest ever solar- powered steam turbine generator or the Ivanpah project.
