The well-being of the children

• It is easier to identify a child’s physical needs.

• But a child’s mental and emotional needs may not be as obvious.

• Good mental health allows children to think clearly, develop socially and learn new skills.

• Additionally, good friends and encouraging words from adults are all important for helping children develop self-confidence, high self-esteem, and a healthy emotional outlook on life.

Provide appropriate guidance & discipline• Children need:

• the opportunity to explore and develop new skills and independence;

• to learn that certain behaviours are unacceptable and that they are responsible for the consequences of their actions.

• Be firm, but kind and realistic with our expectations. Children’s development depends on our love and encouragement.

• Set a good example. We cannot expect self-control and self-discipline from a child if we do not practise this behaviour.

Removal of Common Last Topics – PSLE 2020

From MOE Press Release dated 21 April 2020

• For skill-based subjects such as English Language and MTL, it will not be meaningful and practical to identify CLTs.

• In such instances, SEAB will take the disruption to curriculum time into consideration during marking and grading to ensure that all students are fairly assessed.

• For subject-specific CLT, please refer to the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board website:• https://www.seab.gov.sg/home/examinations/psle/psle-formats-

Choosing a Secondary School• Choosing of secondary schools is done after the receipt of your child’s PSLE

results in mid-November.

• Parents play a vital role in helping their children decide how to map an education pathway that will best fit him/ her.

• You may wish to consider the following:

1. Talk to your child about their strengths, interests and learning styles

2. Based on your child's strengths, interests, learning styles and PSLE results, you may want to think about:• School culture – Virtual Open Houses & school websites

• Courses available – Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical)
