Professional Internship (PI) AY2019-2020

PI Period:Semester 1 : 5 August – 21 December 2019 (20 weeks)Semester 2 : 13 January – 30 May 2020 (20 weeks)

Professional Internship (PI) is a COURSE REQUIREMENT Students must adhere to the official PI period Students are expected to show full commitment and carry out your PI to

the best of your abilities

Do NOT schedule other activities during the PI period to avoid disruption to PI Any decision to end the PI on your own without consulting CAO may result

in you failing your PI

PI Registration Process

Step 1: Complete & pass Online Safety Quiz by stipulated timeline given by CAO

Step 2: Prepare your resume- review your resume using the 'VMock - Online Resume-Review Tool' in Teamsite

- append your degree audit to your final resume and save it in pdf format not exceeding 1 Mb File-size

Step 3: Search for organisations & projects you are interested in (when portal opens)

Step 4: Register for PI by keying in your organisation/project choices, and other relevant information

Selection of PI Organisations/Projects through Portal

You can select up to 6 choices:

• Overseas choice (if any) Up to 3 choices

and/or

• Local choice Up to 3 choices

- must not contain project from the same interviewing organisation

- all organisations are of equal priorities

It is NOT compulsory for you to fill in all the choices if the projects are not of your interest.

• Visit the websites of companies you are interested in. Quite a number of companies provide link or email address for students to apply for internship

Students are strongly encouraged to source for their own PI placement- Start NOW if you have not already started; competition is keen

Before Attachment Sourcing for Own Internship Placement

• The self-sourced placement must meet the following conditions before it can be considered as an PI placement:

organisation paid-up capital is at least S$10,000

number of full-time employees in the organisation is at least 3

organisation should have been incorporated for at least 2 years

organisation must have a proper office setup and not one that operates from home or virtual office

training programme/project must be relevant to the student's course of study

full-time staff (as the student's supervisor) who has the relevant technical knowledge to provide supervision

conduct assessments according to NTU's Attachment Assessment System.

period of the internship must be as stipulated in the NTU's Academic Calendar

student is not associated with the organisation and has no immediate family members, close relatives or friends either working in the organisation or is/are director(s) or substantial shareholder(s) of the organisation which may give rise to conflicts of interest

• The self-sourced application is subject to the final approval by the School and CAO.

• The submission deadline for the self-sourced application is 15 May 2019.

Once your self-source application is approved:• you will not be allowed to request for change in organisation. • you are expected to commit fully to this internship. • no further self-source placement application will be

considered.

IMPORTANT: • The FIRST offer accepted by you will be your internship placement.

• Once an internship offer is accepted (whether via the internship portal, email, submission of self-sourced documents, verbal or signed agreement, etc.), you will NOT be allowed to withdraw from it.

• You MUST stop all efforts to source for further internship placement opportunities. Any further offers that come along will need to be rejected

politely. If you have applied to other internship programmes such as

NTUitive’s OEP or Work and Study, you are to inform the respective programme office(s) that you have already secured a credit-bearing internship placement and will withdraw from their programme(s) accordingly.

WARNING: Disciplinary action will be taken against students who accept more than one internship offer and/or rescind an accepted offer.

Such may include, but not limited to, voiding the internships that the offers relate to and issuance of warning letters that will bar the students from awards in NTU.

• STOP sourcing or going for further interviews as soon as your placement is confirmed and accepted, be it from self-sourcing or via the rounds of selections, etc.

• DO clarify with CAO directly if you are in doubt, do not rely on the grapevine

• DO approach CAO when you are stuck at a choice point and not sure what to do

• DO refer to information in Teamsite for more information on Professional Internship (PI) programme
