BRIEF SUMMARY Chapter alkyl halides: Sn1, Sn2, E1, E2: (a) effect of solvents, base, etc. (b) Hoffman and Zaitsev elimination. (c) reactions of Grignard (remember reactions of Grignard with esters and compounds possessing acidic hydrogens). Chapter alcohols: epoxide opening reactions, eliminations, esterification reactions. Chapter carbonyl: aldol reactions, aldol condensation (be careful with intra-molecular reactions), protection with diols and deprotection of acetals, reactions with Grignards, hemiacetal reactions Acids, ester, amides: esterification reactions, 3 types of carboxylic acid, reduction, reactions with Grignards. Amines: diazonium salt reactions, selective reaction of dinitrobenzene by Na 2 S or (NH 4 ) 2 S (check at hand out), reactions with alkyl halides (remember: whenever you see the N-H and the C-X in reactant molecules, products will be N-C and H-X). There might be more important notes coming from now till before the test date. Please check your e-learning as often as you can. Good luck! There are several important transformations (please also consider last week note as your key problems as well)

Chapter alkyl halides: Sn1, Sn2, E1, E2: (a) effect of solvents, base, etc. (b) Hoffman and Zaitsev

elimination. (c) reactions of Grignard (remember reactions of Grignard with esters and

    compounds possessing acidic hydrogens).

Chapter alcohols: epoxide opening reactions, eliminations, esterification reactions.

Chapter carbonyl: aldol reactions, aldol condensation (be careful with intra-molecular reactions),

protection with diols and deprotection of acetals, reactions with Grignards, hemiacetal reactions

Acids, ester, amides: esterification reactions, 3 types of carboxylic acid, reduction, reactions with

    Grignards.

Amines: diazonium salt reactions, selective reaction of dinitrobenzene by Na2S or (NH4)2S

(check at hand out), reactions with alkyl halides (remember: whenever you see the N-H and the

C-X in reactant molecules, products will be N-C and H-X).

There might be more important notes coming from now till before the test date. Please

check your e-learning as often as you can. Good luck!

There are several important transformations (please also consider last week note as your

    key problems as well)
