I am honored to be entrusted with this event and movement that is created by a group of amazing volunteers. I want to wish you a wonderful time, and I hope that you will be inspired throughout the evening, make connections with someone whom you have not yet met, and be called to ignite new actions.

TEDxAmsterdamWomen hosted one of the first TEDWomen events in 2010. Since then, the annual conference gathers over 450 thought leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and storytellers throughout Amsterdam, as they learn from enlightening speakers, exchange ideas with like-minded professionals, and connect with a global community.

Tonight, we present to you our ninth edition which focuses on the theme: Bridging the Gap.

The gender gap proves we do need feminism. Indicators in health, politics, economics, and education show the gap is widening. Women and men around the world are taking action, raising their voices in a wave of protest. Change is coming. It’s time for equal pay and equal say. It’s time for a world that reflects women, too. Inequality won’t disappear overnight, but we can make strides when we band together. By sharing big ideas that spark a fire in others, we’re creating a movement. Idea by Idea, woman by woman.

Throughout the program, you will hear stories by our inspiring speakers who are bridging the gap in politics, science, art, design, fashion, dance, music, technology, global issues, and sports.

Our theme Bridging the Gap, has a multilateral translation and is a global challenge. Through leadership by example, within our partners’ organizations, we can demystify and transform the gender bias, bridge various gaps and overcome deeply

So to all of our partners, a huge thank you for your trust and continuous support!

And to all present today — ask yourself what do I do to bridge the gap? Am I myself the change I wish to see in the world?

Thank you, volunteers, for donating your time; thank you for your passionate drive,

your belief in the power of women.

team’s hard-work and vision. And may you be moved, inspired and challenged.

For me, the root of success has always been about creating collaborative partnerships, in

is constant opportunity for growth through inspiration.

In April, 2019, TEDxAmsterdamWomen will

Leadership Study trip to Silicon Valley. We’ll deep-dive into the gender bias, diversity and inclusion discussion, as we visit various companies and seek inspiration from the venture capital world and their investments in female entrepreneurs. We also created mentoring bootcamps with Accenture. It is this kind of collaborations that I am proud of, and aim to continue developing.

What an honor it is to be a part of TEDxAmsterdamWomen – a movement which started over nine years ago, and has radically changed the way Amsterdam orients to women. To be able to say that you and I were a part of this, is a privilege.

Many individuals, both women and men, have made today possible, including our 35+

January, and have spent hundreds of hours imagining this day. The meaning of Bridging the Gap, the collection of speakers, the overall experience. Every moment has been carefully curated and designed with purpose.
