Look out for the 'Opinion ' boxes in this issue- the team would like to know what you think about these subjects. There's one in the bottom right hand corner of this page.

Opinion

Chocolate is very tasty but unhealthy too. Should we eat it? I love it- do you?

St Cleer School Singers Prepare To Entertain

Singers from St Cleer School Choir were busy rehearsing for a “Soundfest” Concert in Launceston Town Hall which took place on 16th March. This was a wonderful event when we joined with singers from other local schools, forming a choir of 80 children, with a potential audience of 300.

Headteacher, Catherine Stoate, said,

“This will be an experience for our children which they will remember all their lives. There is something very special about singing in a large choir in an imposing venue and in front of a sizable audience.”

As one of our choir members put it,

“When I am singing, I can forget everything else but the music. I feel free!”

If you would like to hear the whole school singing and dancing, book for our school production of “Ocean Commotion” at Sterts on 21st June!

P.E and Sports

PE and Sports in St Cleer School is great fun and good exercise.

Our PE is taken by Mrs Tyrrell, Mrs Ronald and Mr Jones.

This school has lots of sports fans and some brilliant talented teams.

Have you seen a good St Cleer football match? Or run a cross country race for the school?

We'd like to hear about it. If you have photos even better. You might make the next issue!

Youth Speaks Competition

Youth Speaks took place on Thursday 22nd of January 2016. St Cleer had 3 teams- we did Halloween, video games and milk prices. Everyone was really good and we had a lot of competition. Trenode and Liskeard were the lucky winners. Trenode did nuclear power and Liskeard did bullying and how it affects your life- they were exceptional and they ALL deserved the win.

Thanks to the Rotary Club for organising the competition.

St Cleer Teams:

Milk prices team: Thurlow, Robin and Daniel

Halloween team: Amy, Frankie and Teagan

Video games: Oliver, Isaac and Bethany

Opinion

Do you think farmers are in the wrong?

I personally think that farmers are treated horribly which is disrespectful to the farmers who get paid money below the minimum wage and work from 8am until 8pm!

Farmers are going bust all over the country. I'd like to see what you think! Put any opinions in the folder on the Millennium Room door.

Book Review

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School! By Greg Heffley

In the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, Greg Heffley goes through an immense amount of stress and trouble (as per usual) added on to the fact that his Grandad is staying with him.

He thinks he is going to get into trouble with his Dad so he goes on a residential trip with this school.

This book is amazing funny and entertaining.

Book and Film Reviews

Book Review

Upside Down in the Jungle

By Helen Philips

I love it! It is about a girl called Maddie and her sister Ruby who they call Roo. Their Dad is a scientist and they end up going to see him- not the best of ideas....

My favourite character is Madeline Flynn Wade (her full name). This book is really exciting and has a lot of adventure and it is so good! I hope you love it too.

Film Review

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I’d been waiting for ages for this film and when I finally got to see it, IT WAS EPIC!!!!

I can’t reveal too much, but the main character is called Rey and she is a scavenger and she has to help find Luke who ran away. But the first order (the bad guys) are trying to find him as well.

Alfie

Computer Safety

Some people get bullied on the internet- now that is not how we should treat people.

One question- how would you like to be treated?

Here are some good points if you have been cyber bullied:

· Don't reply

· Keep the message fool proof

· Tell an adult

Comedy

I had a racing snail. I took its shell off to see if it would go faster. But it just made it sluggish.

I decided to sell my hoover; after all, it was only collecting dust.

I was chased by chickens the other day- well, I had made a corny joke.

Do you know what cows with road rage say? Moove out of the hay!!!

What does an Eskimo say to his friend who's moving to a warm environment? 'Please don't snow!'

Ideas for the Playground

There has been a fanastic response to Mrs Stoate's request for ideas for playground games- so many of you imaginative pupils have replied that we can't fit all the games into one issue! Over the next few issues we will be showing you some of the many pages that came in to us with instructions. Special thanks to Joe, who sent in lots of games with full instructions, and Ryan Bendelow who sent an enormous list of non-contact imaginative games- well done to both of you on all that hard work!

In this issue, however, we have chosen George Ellis with his suggestion of Fish ‘n Chips as our suggestion to print, see below.

Some of the most popular games suggested are:

Hopscotch (thanks Daniel, Ryan Bendelow, Ocean, Maja, Summer West, Aggie Dean, Josie Pearce, Melly and Megan)

Hide and Seek (thanks Melly and Megan, Maja, Ocean, Ryan Bendelow)

Charades/ Miming (thanks Aggie Dean, Ocean, Mia and an anonymous)

What's the time Mr Wolf? and Grandmother's Footsteps are great games that have stood the test of time- along with Ring-a-Ring-of-Roses for anyone who fancies a song!

Lots of role-playing games like Mums and Dads, Princesses, Schools, Horses, Monster High and Monsters vs Aliens.

Duck-Duck-Goose was also a very popular suggestion, so there will be instructions in a later issue.

Almost all of the pupils who sent games reminded us to be gentle with the people we are playing with, and careful of others who are around us- a very important point to keep us all happy in the playground!

Happy Playing!
