All Marsha lls facing bricks are classified a s Fca teg ory fully frost

resistant as de fined in BS:3921:1985.Within the sta nda rd the

definition states that frost resistant (F) bricks are durable in all building

situations including those where they are in a saturated condition and

subjected to repeated freezing and thaw ing.

An important consideration in conditions of extended sa turation is the

possible failure of morta r joints throug h a process know n a s sulphate

at tack. Sulphat e att ack within mortar joints can lead to e xpansion,

crumbling and failure of the joints leading to displacement in the

surrounding brickwork.

Marshalls facing bricks are also classified as Lcategory low soluble

salts cont ent as defined in BS:3921:1985.Experience show s tha t the

use of Low soluble sa lts content clay bricks, as d efined in BS:3921:1985,

removes the risk of sulphate a tta ck of the morta r.The F catego ry when

combined w ith the Lca tego ry, gives a facing brick product with t he

highest durability designation available within BS:3921:1985,that of an

FLdesignation,Fully Frost resistant with Low Soluble salts content.

Marshalls further gua rantees the frost resistance of its range of facing

bricks for a minimum of 60 years.This gua rantee only applies to

Marsha lls facing a nd engineering bricks supplied as F q uality.This is on

the und erstanding tha t the brickwo rk in which the b ricks are

incorporated is designed and constructed exactly to the

recommenda tions of BS:5628:Part 3:2001,t he Code of Practice for

Walling, or any later do cument w hich supersedes or replaces that code.

DURABILITY GUARANTEE

DIMENSIONAL ACCURACY GUARANTEE

Marshalls realises that the d imensiona l deviat ion tests, bot h in

BS:3921:1985 and the proposed Europea n Sta nda rd prEN 771,do not

provide a size test tha t meet s the actual req uirements of de signers and

contractors,tha t is,a measurement of the face,the dimension upon

which all brickwork is based.

In recognition o f this requirement, Marshalls offers on the ma jority o f

the range, a dimensional guarantee above tha t of the existing and

proposed sta nda rds which is related to individual bricks.

This gives much great er accuracy on t he critical face d imension, a

significant improvement on the industry standards and one which

can o nly add to t he overall quality of the finished b rickwo rk.

Marshalls guarantees that a minimum o f 90%of a ll facing bricks w ill

have a fa ce dimension of no mo re than + or 3mm from 215mm when

measured 10mm back, from t he face o f the b rick using callipers as

illustrate d.This guarantee is based on a measurement of individua l

bricks,not the mean of 24 bricks,as in the present standard,or the

mean of 10 bricks, as in the proposed European Sta nda rd.

COLOUR BLENDING GUARANTEEMarshalls recognises that blending bricks from several packs prior to

laying is not alw ays possible for a variety of reasons.

To ensure that an even b lend and a b alanced appea rance of colours is

achieved w ith the finished brickwo rk in these circumstances, Marshalls

offers the Colour Blending Gua rantee for certa in products.

Individual packs of facing bricks offering this gua rantee have a ba lanced

blend within each blade or slice,provided that the facing bricks are

removed from packs as show n oppo site.

Marshalls also guarantees a balanced blend throughout the contract,

reducing the need for hand blending on site, providing that the fullqua ntity is ordered prior to supply commencing.

All Marshalls facing b ricks are supplied fully shrink wrapped to offer

maximum protection in transit and on site.

Marshalls City Blend and Match rang e gives a uniq ue oppo rtunity to

match and complement the weathered smooth red brickwork of any

ag e or era.

Choose the blend reference numb er which provides the correct b alance

of red and black hues to g ive the match required. Blend One Red Mix

Smoot h, Blend Four Victorian Red Smooth a nd Blend Ten City Multi

Smooth a re standa rd blends normally held in stock in the 73mm format.

Other blends in the 73mm format a re usually available within tw o

weeks of o rdering.

The City Blend a nd Match range is also available in the 65mm format ,

with Blend One Red Mix Smooth a nd Blend Ten City Multi Smooth

normally held in sto ck. Other blends in the 65mm format are usually

available within three w eeks of ordering.

Using quality controlled and programmed blending systems at the

production unit, the exact blend of facing b rick will then b e faithfully

produced and supplied to the project.

The City Blend a nd Match rang e offers the colour blending gua rantee,

ensuring a ba lanced blend is supplied, providing that the b ricks are

ta ken from the pa cks as recommended by Marshalls.

It is recommend ed that the final choice of blend is chosen from a

Increased use o f Prefabricated Brickwo rk pane ls has been driven b y the

need for lean construction and to completely enclose building s aga inst

the element s as q uickly as possible.By sealing t he building envelope,

internal fitting out can be carried out at the same time as the external

cladding is constructed,significantly enhancing the speed of construction.

Marshalls can supply precast pa nels faced w ith any brick from its

extensive rang e. Bricks are cut t o specified dimensions in Marshalls

hi-tech cutting facto ry to ensure tha t the stand ard perforat ion pat tern

forms a dovetail which when b ackfilled w ith concrete,forms an

exceptionally t ight key.

Various size panels can be created t o suit the building design a ndcolour consistency is excellent. Supply chain flow is also enha nced
