To Praise, To Bless, To PreachA PARISH MISSION

This mission focuses on the Dominican ideals. St. Dominic had a vision of the world being a better place by the spreading of the gospel and the truth being proclaimed. He knew that praising, blessing and preaching the Lord could only spread this truth. He began this work with the foundation of the cloistered nuns to pray because truth is rooted in prayer and then founded the brothers to carry out this work in practice. Considering the times this was very progressive.

A PARISH HOPE

First we recognize that we are chosen by God. God first loved us and wants us to be a great part of the salvific plan. We, as a people, are a chosen race, a royal priesthood. Because of this praise from God we can’t help but praise God in return. This praise manifests itself in all things. We recognize God’s creation and we realize that we are a part of this. We can help to re-create this world or we can destroy it by our mistakes. We also recognize the fact that we must also praise God in the other as each is chosen by God.

A PARISH PRAYER

Second, we look at the blessings that we have received and the blessings that we are. Often times we are unaware, with all the evil that we see on the news and read in the papers, that we are called to be a blessing and in turn we are called to bless. There is a lot of blessing that goes on in the world but for some reason it is over-shadowed by the mean things that exist in the world. We need to see and focus in on those blessings so that they are not lost from Christian view.

A PARISH RESPONSE

Third, we must go beyond ourselves and our narrow mindedness and see how the Word is preached and how we are called to be a part of that preaching. In the 13th century preaching was not as it is today. Dominic knew that hunger for the Word meant that it must be proclaimed daily. But not only proclaimed but proclaimed well. It must be done also in a way where it reflects the truth that pushed Dominic in the first place. It cannot be a tool to get a private message across but the message that is true to God. We are the new proclaimers of the Word so we must be

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
