Why Brews & Pubs.... NOW?
Over the course of the past twenty plus years, we have been to a lot of
Irish and British pubs as part of our work here at McDonough Media.
We like pubs and we always respected the tradition of pubs and their unique
role in American life. We often joked about it while telling people what we did;
“It’s a tough job but somebody has to do it.”
Simultaneously, we saw the changes and the growth of small brew pubs, breweries and craft
beers and we met a lot of people who were very passionate and well informed about the art of
beer making and trends.
We also started learning a lot about the Digital Information Age when we affiliated with Constant
Contact and began doing E-Mail newsletters for clients and ourselves about five years ago. Last
year we started our OnLine edition of the Irish Arts and Entertainment.
Then a few months ago, we had our EUREKA MOMENT! We decided that there was a definite
place for a Magazine about BREWS, the great craft beers and the amazing people that get in-
volved with them and the growth that we were seeing in that segment of the brewing business.
We combined that observation with the incredible proliferation of PUBS (Brew Pubs, Breweries
and Tasting Rooms too) and the dedicated and well informed individuals that open and run
them. These are great topics and dynamic people doing what they love to do while inspiring the
public to get out and try new experiences. Hence the inception of Brews and Pubs Magazine!
Our aim is to tell these stories and to be an integral part of this amazing industry while we do
what we love to do. “It’s a great job and we are lucky to be able to do it!”

The Wilde Thistle Celtic Cafe and Pub Hosting Celtic Art Show
The works of acclaimed Irish-American Artist Steve O’Loughlin are currently on display at
the Wilde Thistle located in the Palms District of Los Angeles; the public is invited to drop by anytime to see and enjoy this visually stunning collection of Celtic Art. Open for less than two years. The Wilde Thistle is a family run business, the brainchild of Caity Wallace who has had considerable experience in running a tea room and shop. It is a nice cozy place with great food and ambiance and well worth a visit on it’s own merits. Aside from hosting Art Shows, the cafe & pub has a very good schedule of entertainment and events each month.
O’Loughlin moved to LA after getting a formidable education in the arts with a BFA from the California College of Art and a Masters from the San Francisco Art Institute. He now resides in Westchester with his wife, Lynda and their two children, Haley 19 and Neil, 14.
O’Loughlin is an amiable and intelligent guy who has won acclaim as a multi-faceted artist: painter, sculptor and musician. His latest works have been in the realm of public art and he is now working on sacred art for Holy Nativity Church in Westchester. The art on display by O’Loughlin is very contemporary Celtic inspired with an imaginative whimsy that is unmatched by any other artist. About it O’Loughlin explains,
“My artwork combines Celtic designs and other decorative motifs with contemporary imagery. I often draw upon my local community for inspiration. Therefore, freeways, Latin culture, jet airliners and social themes interlace together in a swirling celebration of color and rhythm.”
The Wilde Thistle is located at 3456 Motor Ave. in L.A. www.wildethistle.com www.stevenoloughlin.comSteve O’Loughlin (shown on right) the artist and attendee for the Art Show
