Brentford Institute for Technical Training

BITT has teamed up with TAFE of Australia (Technical and Further Education) to deliver the right training,

by the right trainers, in the right environment. Focused education is the only way to bridge the gap

between available skills and required skills.

BITT provides accommodation, food and medical to all candidates in its camp where strict discipline is maintained.

Our ratio of one instructor to 12 candidates ensures individual education.

Our 24 hour monitoring assesses attitude and aptitude of each worker. Our success lies behind our ability

to deliver candidates with the right skill, productivity and attitude.

BITT’s sister company, Dynamic Staffing Services has placed over 190000 people to over 25 countries.

DSS has sent candidates for projects such as Palm Jumeriah, Atlantis Hotel, One and Only Reeti Rah, King Faad Medical City and multiple additional projects in the Oil and Gas, Mechanical and Electrical verticals.

DSS understands the skills required to deliver world class projects. This learning has given BITT an opportunity to create

custom curriculums based on client requirements in order to train candidates to levels never seen before.

BITT has the ability to deliver 11000 candidates a year with its current facilities.

Why Skill Up-GradationThe quality expectation of a finished product today is higher than before. To deliver up to these expectations, candidates are required to have adequate skills, without which the delivered product will never be up to the required standards. The gap between skills present in candidates and the skills required is vast and even though candidates are willing to learn, no mechanism / program have been able to bridge this gap.

BITT was engineered and launched to specifically bridge this gap. BITT is the available mechanisms candidates can turn towards to adopt skills or upgrade skills to provide a better future for themselves and their families.

OurMissionTo provide our global clients with the right resource for the right job.

To provide skill up gradation to candidates, with focus on productivity, safety and quality to help project site become successful.

To build lasting relationships with both our clients, and candidates.

Why Current Skill Up-Gradation Methods Fail

There are over 1780 Technical Training Institutes in India run by the Govt, however most of them are underfunded which restricts the ability of these institutions to deliver the required education. Bulk of the training provided by ITI’s are focused on the manufacturing vertical. Very few focus on the construction industry, which includes Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Oil & Gas and mining categories.

Most skilled candidates in the construction industry have never received training on a professional platform. They have educated themselves by observing and learning from their relatives. Due to this reason most of the large construction companies have had no choice but to set up facilities to train workers in order to upgrade skills to achieve required quality & productivity. However, this method is not the most cost effective or effective method as all candidates already have a secured job and their willingness to learn is limited. Since training is secondary to their business, ability to succeed automatically remains doubtful.

Major Upcoming Hurdle

India is facing a shortage in skilled manpower in almost all verticals. The problem of overall decline in the supplier of highly skilled labor is real and currently not addressed.

The Indian government plans to invest $1.4 Trillion into Indian infrastructure over the next 10 years.

While two thirds of Indian population is under 35, India has the manpower to deliver these projects, however this manpower is currently unskilled or lack skill and the road to becoming skilled is not defined.

Skill Up-Gradation ModelsNew Recruit - SKILL UPGRADE TRAINING – (Domestic and International)

Basic premise to recruit workers of available skill grades and deliver training to them in an effort to upgrade their skills. Our goal is to deliver candidates as per the requirements of our clients; therefore all curriculums’ are designed in collaboration with the client.

All potential trainees are skill tested to determine their current skill level, only candidates meeting a pre-established skill standard are accepted into the program. Upgrade training is intensive, it focuses on the following areas: Technical Training (Practical and Theory), Safety Training, Employer & Site Familiarization, Language, Behaviour & Discipline.

All activities are executed in collaboration with a resident client representative if the client wishes to place one at our facility.

Each candidate is subjected to end of training evaluation to determine worthiness to join a particular client’s work-site. At the end of the course, client representative conducts technical interviews. If a worker does not make the cut, he is dropped from the process. This is a performance based model – clients only pay for successful candidates.

BITT’s programs have met with great success and BITT has already delivered upgrade training to over 8000 workers.

Current Employee - SKILL UPGRADE TRAINING – (Domestic)

The only difference between this training and the training for New Recruits is that here the focus on training existing employees of our clients. All other points remain the same.

Grass Root Training

This training program is much longer then the Skill Upgrade programs as the focus here is to source candidates with the right education regardless of their skill.

This program focuses on educating each candidate on the mechanics behind each skill and to explain to them in detail the purpose of each aspect of our training.

These programs are only for Civil trades and last 4 Weeks.

BITT is executing training for the following trades:

Scaffolders

Shuttering Carpenters

Steel Fixers

Masons concreter and Block Layers

Client List

Skill Up-Gradation AdvantagesIdeal learning environment with implicit motivations: Based on our experience over the last 3 decades with a multitude of operatives, it is our view that an Indian operative’s motivation to learn would drasti-cally decrease once he knows that his job is in hand. An environment where he has to learn to earn an attractive job motivates him tremendously.

Attitude assessment: Unlike traditional selection process, training gives us the opportunity to assess the candidate’s attitude. This is a critical advantage as not all skilled candidates are beneficial for the client and in fact, historically, it has only taken a few operatives with a disruptive attitude to create challenges for companies.

Instilling of discipline and preparation for life in Abu Dhabi: Most workers have never lived in a camp facility or worked in a regimented environment. BITT’s training is the worker’s first introduction to the type of environment they would be expected to live and work in, for the coming few years. Further, worker from different regions get to meet and connect with each other, easing their initial period, post landing in Abu Dhabi.

Impact on skill and foundation knowledge: Most tradesmen in India have learnt their trades through in-formal means. In most cases, they are aware of what to do, they are not aware why it is done that way, whether there is a more efficient way to do it and how their work fits into the greater scheme of the project.

Prepare the workers to deal with negative influences on worksites: Most workers who do not have prior overseas experience are simple and sometimes naive and typically would fall prey to the negatives influ-ences on worksites. Overtime and slowdown of work, group bargaining, alcohol etc.

Prepare the workers to make the most of opportunities available to them: It can take very long periods of time for workers to develop an understanding of how they can maximize their opportunities through incentive programs, skill upgrades, developing communication skills etc.

Hit the worksite running: Workers arriving at the jobsite with prior knowledge of items like safety, PPE, modern construction methods etc. are likelier to commence delivering faster than those who do not.
