    58 DECK

58.1Structural Condition There is concrete spalling in the deck extends through the overlay. Transverse cracking occurs at

    regular intervals.

(Spall in upper deck with exposed rebar, next to joint At L6) (Spalling with exposed rebar on bottom of lower deck L21)

58.2 Wearing Surface The wearing surface has several areas of spalled concrete. There are transverse cracks throughout the deck.

58.5Expansion Devices Some of the expansion joints at the ends of the truss show a small amount of vertical misalignment. It is

noted up to 1/2. The troughs under these joints are all filled or overflowing with debris.

(Full trough under the lowed deck joint at L17)

(Vertically misaligned joint fingers, expansion joint at

    L0)

58.7Railing Vertical cracks in the concrete barriers are typical throughout the length of the bridge. There are isolated areas where

the concrete has spalled off of the barriers.

58.8Lighting and/or Utilities There are several electrical cover plates on the barrier that are broken or missing. The light at L6

    is flashing.

    59 SUPERSTRUCTURE

59.1Stringers At some of the splices along the exterior stringers, pack rust is forming along the edge of the bottom flange splice

    plate.

Floor Beams The floor beams exhibit section loss and surface rust throughout the bridge. The filler plates exhibit section loss

and pack rust, and there is typically pack rust along the stiffeners as well. The cover plates show section loss and pack rust and

there is debris on the top flange, typically under joints. There are cracks on the T-connections, filler plates, and welds of the

floor beams, including a significant amount of new cracks.

Trusses, Main Members Along the edge of the internal diaphragms, the truss members have minor to moderate surface rust,

pitting, and pack rust. There is minor pack rust along the inside and outside corners of the member boxes. Also, section loss is

present on the interior of some of the verticals. The lower chord shows pack rust, especially on the underside at the cover andsplice plates. The upper chord has fractured guide plates at L17 DS and US, and L17 DS.

(Pack rust on diaphragm inside top chord at U14 to L16 ) (Pack rust on exterior corner of member - L0 lower deck)

(Fractured guide plate - L17 DS) (Surface rust on gusset plate at lower chord splice L8)

59.3a Trusses - Bracing and Portals There is pack rust and surface rust on the connecting plates of the lateral bracing.

(Lateral bracing gusset from below L17 lower chord) (Lateral bracing gusset from above L14 lower chord)

    near Floorbeam 16)

59.4Bearing Devices The bearings show fair amounts of surface and pack rust throughout the truss, and heavy pack rust and

active corrosion under the expansion joints. The bearings at the piers are in good condition.

60.2 Piers There is a crack at Pier 1 that is deep and runs the entire depth of the pier cap and continues through the column.Otherwise, the piers appear to be in good condition.
