A Ronald McDonald House representative will be speaking at the September 11th

hand for children and families. The first house opened in Philadelphia in 1974. There are
now more than 300 houses throughout the world. Their mission is to create, find, and
support programs that directly improve health and well-being of children. The Ronald
McDonald House of Cleveland, Inc. supports families whose children receive treatment at
area medical centers by providing a home-like environment and essential resources and
services. Please come to the Breakfast Forum to learn more about this wonderful agency at Perkins
Restaurant on Chester Road, at 9:30 AM. There is a $1 fee and there will be a sign-up sheet in the

We hope to see many of the ladies of Avenbury at our special celebration dinner on Fri-
day, September 12th at 6PM. It is a great time to meet new neighbors, chat, eat and
enjoy some entertainment. Are you aware that eight U.S. Presidents have come from
Ohio? We all know that it is the women “behind the men” who truly count. Learn some
interesting facts and tidbits about the wives of those eight presidents. A group of wom-
en, in costume, will portray the “First Wives.” Seats are still available. You will enjoy a
delicious Italian dinner with homemade lasagna, salad and dessert. Feel free to bring
your own “beverage” to complement the coffee, tea, and water. Please pay only $10 to
ALHOA by Friday, September 5th.Keep your eyes and ears open for a date in October,
probably a Friday afternoon, for a very special fashion show at the Lodge. Thanks to Mary Lou McMahon
we will see fashions from Chico’s, located at Crocker Park. Get tips on building a wardrobe, coordinating
and accessorizing from experts. You may even recognize some of the models! Our own Origami Owl rep,
Deb Baringer, will also add her accessorizing tips. All Avenbury Lakes women welcome!

For the benefit of new residents, and for anyone else who is wondering what the Community Fund does,
please let me elaborate. The Community Fund was formed to accept receipts from fund-raising projects, and
donations to honor, show appreciation or memorialize residents who have influenced our lives in some way.
The Community Fund is administered by a committee of residents whose mission is to collect ideas, evaluate
and recommend funding for significant projects that are outside the responsibility of the board of directors.
For example, many residents who take advantage of the Neighbor Helping Neighbor Program show their ap-
preciation for the help they receive by making a donation to the Community Fund and recognizing the person
or persons who so kindly lent a hand. Memorials are another way to honor and recognize Avenbury residents.
Fund-raisers, like the Abitibi paper recycling bins, and purchasing engraved pavers or Avenbury hats is an-
other way to add to our Community Fund. Each year the Community Fund provides a budget for the summer
concerts around the pool. This year we sponsored the Comedy Show that was held in January, fully funded a
brass band concert in July, the Frank and Dean Show in August, and will bring back the Chardon Polka
Band in September. Plans are to fund a Christmas music program and another type of entertainment during
the winter months. In addition to several landscape beautification projects and the Paver Project in the Rec-
reation Area, the Community Fund has paid for a Ping-Pong table at the Lodge, rocking chairs outside the
lodge, teakwood benches in the paver garden, wooden shutters in the all-purpose room, shelving in the li-
brary and card rooms and a portion of the Lodge renovation a few years ago. The Community Fund Commit-
tee welcomes ideas for funding of significant projects that will benefit all Avenbury Lakes residents. Commit-
tee members are listed on the website, or you can contact me, Mary Lou Gross at 937-3302 or Sue Neiding,
who is the board liaison, at 937-7676 with ideas and proposals. We would like to give a special Shout Out to
the Neighbor Helping Neighbor volunteers! Thank You for all the help you have given to Avenbury residents.
We Salute You!
Community Fund Updates
The Community Fund Committee would like to thank
Jim Mutchler for his years of service to our Community
as the President of the Avenbury Lakes Homeowners
Association by placing an engraved paver in the recrea-
tion area overlooking the lake. Stop by and take a look
at the pavers when you have a moment. If you haven’t
already done so, consider ordering one to “Put Your
Mark on Avenbury.” Order forms are on the website on
the Resident Info page or the Committees Page for the
Community Fund. If you prefer, hard copy forms are at
the Lodge on the table in front of the bulletin board.
