Dear Supporter,

If you could grant one wish for Vanessa, what would it be?

We are very fortunate at Breast Cancer Care WA to have the support of so many wonderful people just like you. Almost everyone has been touched by breast cancer in some way. Some have been diagnosed themselves; others have had a mother, sister or dear friend whose life has been affected.

Our dedicated team at Breast Cancer Care WA are pleased to be able to provide the vital support these women and their families need to face and overcome the many heart breaking challenges breast cancer brings.

Knowing what these women have to face, I know you’ll join me in sending Vanessa the very best for Christmas, her first with her beautiful son who was born earlier this year.

We first met Vanessa in 2009 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32.

Desperately seeking someone who could explain what it all meant, this single young lady turned to us. The first person she spoke to was Denise, one of our experienced breast care nurses. When she had difficult questions she didn’t feel she could ask her surgeon, she knew Denise would help her to understand.

“Dear Denise” she recalls “you were an angel through those times.”

Having endured the horrors of surgery to remove a lump, followed by chemotherapy, Vanessa was determined to put it all behind her and move forward with her life. Time passed, her health and strength improved.

Then last year she was thrilled to discover she and her partner had a baby on the way. Life couldn’t have been better.

Neither could have imagined the bombshell that was about to hit, when at 28 weeks pregnant, Vanessa was diagnosed with breast cancer again.

P.S. By sending your donation today we will be able to do so much to help support these very deserving women and their loved ones when they really need it the most. Thank you for your support.

Vanessa immediately phoned Denise for support. With her precious child nestled inside her, this terrified young mother endured a mastectomy and started chemo straight away. Any mother is nervous about the birth of their child, but can you imagine the thoughts running through her mind? “How will this affect my baby? Will he be alright? How will I care for him?” Fortunately, Denise was there to talk through her worries and give support and has been there ever since.

But there was a wonderful bright light amidst the darkness with the arrival of her very precious baby.

It’s a dreadful way to start motherhood, but Vanessa treasures every moment with her gorgeous little guy. It’s very tough dealing with a baby while facing the rigours of cancer treatment, but with your support we’re there to help.

Denise also volunteers her own time to take care of the baby while Vanessa attends her specialist appointments. One of our wonderful volunteers Patricia also helps out with babysitting when Vanessa needs her. Patricia has had breast cancer herself. She was first diagnosed in 1995 then again in 2012. She understands just what Vanessa is going through.

At Breast Cancer Care WA we’re here for everyone living with breast cancer… all of our beautiful ladies, their husbands, partners and children, dealing with what’s happening and wondering what might happen next.

For women like Vanessa, every moment counts. So we would like to be here and provide whatever support they need when they need it most. Unfortunately though, even though our dedicated staff and volunteers are so willing, our finances are extremely limited which is why I’m writing to you today. To ask for your support.

I’m sure you share my deep heartfelt wish that Vanessa has many more Christmases with her adorable son and loving family. But there are so many other little wishes we hope you’ll help us make true this Christmas.

We hope you’ll help us be there for more women when they need us with more funds for qualified counselling, support groups, help with paying bills when they’re off work, practical help like transportation to treatment and even a day of pampering. But without any Government funding we just don’t have the resources. We need your help to make it happen.

Everything we do to help women with breast cancer in WA is totally free for them and their families. But the need for these services grows every day. Can you please help us do something special for all of our ladies this Christmas and into the new year with your most generous donation?

Thank you for caring,

Donna Rendell Chief Executive Officer
