A few words from Mrs Nicholson
Dear Parents,
Another fantastic week at Breaside and yes, only one week to go until the Summer Holidays!
Britain's Got Talent come to Breaside on Tuesday and we had a wonderful time watching and
judging so many of our talented children from Year 3 to Year 6. One of our judges was nearly
booed out of the room! Mr Duke was the mean representative of Simon Cowell. The level of
talent was so high which made the judging very difficult. Well done to everyone that took part
and congratulations to our winners this year – Aku & Miika in 1st place on piano and drums, 2nd
place went to Freya with her beautiful solo singing and acting and 3rd place went to Ben and
Ebube for their extremely funny Puppet Show!
Year two excelled themselves also on Tuesday, as we all watched the children perform in their
End of Year Production of ‘The Breaside News’. Thank you to everyone who was able to
attend and join in 'Jai Ho' dancing and watch the amazing performances from the children.
Thank you to Mrs Hoban-Platford, Mrs Blasé and the Year Two team. I think we would all
agree, the children and teachers did a brilliant job, so thank you and well done!
This week we have had a couple of tea parties, one to welcome our new Kindergarten parents
and this afternoon we finish off the week with a wonderful Reception Farewell Afternoon Tea.
Once again, thank you to all families that were able to join us and to staff and of course Mr
Turtle for the refreshments.
Last night I was privileged to be part of the judging team for our ‘Breaside Bake Off’ and my
goodness the standard was so high, and the quality of cooking, preparations and presentation
was excellent. Thank you to Mr Turtle and the Cookery Club teachers, for all their efforts in
putting together another fantastic event for our Breaside children. Our finalists this year were
George, Theo, Serena, Lola and Ebube. Our winner with a wonderful ‘visit to the beach’ theme
was Lola who was presented with a plaque from Thomas Franks. Very well done to each and
everyone of them, for cooking such wonderful creations in an hour and temperatures in the
high 20s!
Our final major event for this year is the Prize Giving ceremony for Years 3-6, and some
individual prize winners, on Thursday 11th July, and I look forward to seeing those families at
St George's Church in Bickley to share the celebration, and graduation of our Year 6 pupils.
Our final day for this academic year is Friday 12th July, can I please remind you that Early
Years and Infants finish at 12.30pm and Juniors at 1:00pm. There will be no After School Care
available on Thursday 11th or Friday 12th next week. All teacher led clubs finish today and the
list of clubs for next term will be sent to you shortly.
Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you all at the Friends of Breaside
Summer Fair tomorrow or at one of the various events next week, Infants and Juniors Sports
Day on Wednesday 10th July and our Special Year 6 parent’s farewell Afternoon Tea on the
afternoon of Tuesday 9th July.

Well done to everyone that took part in Breaside’s Got

and Miika for winning with their piano and drum duet,

3rd with their puppet show. Breaside really does have

This week saw the final of The Breaside Bake Off. The standard displayed by our 5
chefs was extremely high and the end results looked amazing and tasted delicious.

crowned this year’s winner with her ‘visit to the beach’ cupcakes.
Forest School
Forest School Fire 2019
Pre-Prep S and Pre-Prep V had their first Forest School fire on Wednesday 3rd July. Following a safety talk
about fire and how to be careful the excited children toasted their own marshmallows on the fire. Once they
had cooled down, they managed to get all sticky eating them. The marshmallows were then washed down
with Mr Turtles special chocolate milk drink!
Children’s comments:
Flynn: “There were marshmallows and there were sticks!” “I think it was yummy!”
Lara: “The fire was hot.” “You need to wear safety clothes, or you might get burnt.”
Ben: “Stay away from the fire!” “Toast it with a grown up.”
Chloe: “I liked it when we were eating it!”

Year 5 AIR Raid Shelters
Today all the Year 5 children worked very hard making and designing their Anderson Shelters. They
all did a magnificent job. Emily Butterfield and Jake Serf excelled in this activity and earned

Year 5 Gardening news!
Year 5 would like to remind parents and friends that they will be selling a range of plants that they
have grown from seed during this year’s gardening project at the FOB’s Summer Fair on Saturday 6th
July. They have a selection of tomato, chilli, pepper, aubergine and cucumber plants for sale!
In the Year 5 Secret Garden pupils have been enjoying freshly picked fruit and veg – straight from the
plant. We also harvested our potato crop this week and enjoyed new potatoes freshly prepared by
Mr Turtle and the catering team. Delicious!

Cricket Report: Years 3 & 4 v Farringtons
We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at Queen Mary’s Sports Ground, playing pairs cricket against Farringtons
School. For some children, it was their first cricket match. They really focused and learnt a lot form the fun
afternoon.
Team 1 played some outstanding cricket and I was especially impressed by the bowling, which had really
improved. A great win by 20n runs.
Team 2 were learning lots about the game, with Raiyan being the star and hitting lots of boundaries. A good
effort by all but they narrowly lost by 8 runs.Thank you to all the boys and parents that attended.
