From the Pastor’s DeskWe recently welcomed Rebecca Weber into membership at Christ

Church. As Rebecca has been growing in her understanding of what it means to be a Christian, she decided to formalize her journey of discipleship with our congregation by taking vows that summarize the ways Scripture calls us to live out our faith as disciples of Jesus Christ. Those five vows are to be active in: Prayers, which refers to spiritual growth, talking to God through payer, learning

from God through reading Scripture, and being formed by God through small groups and holy conversations.

Presence, which refers to regular participation in the faith community. God calls us to gather as the Church to support one another, nurture one another, and to witness together. Those who are physically unable to come are still part of the church as they offer their presence in visits from the Pastor and lay people, which connects them to the faith community.

Gifts, which refers to giving finances and other resources we may have. Scripture offers the model of giving a tithe or 10% of the income God has blessed us to earn or receive back as an act of worship. As we give to God through the church the ministry of the church is supported which shares God’s love in meeting physical needs along with making disciples. Gifts also may refer to giving to charities beyond our tithe to the church.

Service, which refers to the giving of our time, talents, and abilities to serve God and others through the church, our job, our daily living, and/or community volunteer work. God has a purpose for each of us and wants to work through us to share His love in word and deed with others.

Witness, refers to the sharing what God has done for all of humanity and personally how God has made a difference in our life. Witness includes living according to God’s way as revealed in Scripture and it means inviting others to Church.

Membership means covenanting together with the faith community to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. If you are a member or would like to be, I invite you to reflect on how your faith is lived out and formed through the vows of membership and what next step God is calling you to as we seek to be active disciples of Jesus.

God Bless, Pastor George J. Kafer

P.S. With the weather getting nicer and summer plans being made, keep in mind God who deserves our praise and commitment. While enjoying the beauty of creation this summer remember to live out your discipleship by continuing to offer your presence, prayers, talents, and finances so that you may continue to grow and help us do God’s good work. When gone traveling you can stay connected as sermons and a giving link can be found on our website.

Meet ClarenceClarence Lagarde is our new

Compassion Child. He is 13 years old and is from the Philippines. Louis Jay was no longer eligible for the program so we had to choose another child. You will be hearing more about Clarence during the month as it is time to renew our yearly support of $456.

The Witness/Outreach Ministry Team will devote the Change for Change for the month of July to the support of Clarence for his medical and nutritional support as well as his Christian education. We hope you will give generously for Clarence and will enjoy getting to know more about him.

Apportionment GivingChrist Church has a history of 100% apportionment giving, allowing us to help transform lives by God’s love. Apportionments provide for ministries that directly help over 50,000 people in Wisconsin and many more beyond. In 2019 our apportionment is $43,728, if we each give faithfully to the general fund and if able a special gift for apportionments, $254 a year per member, we can continue to support connectional ministries and free up more of our general funds to increase outreach and ministry in our local area.

Stewardship Makes a Difference!Thank you for all the ways you support ministry. This newsletter has examples of how our church is making a difference in people’s lives through your giving! It is good to see people trusting in God and answering His call to give. People are offering themselves to serve and their financial giving (several tithing 10% of income, or working toward tithing)! Check the connection table for Electronic Fund Transfer forms and ways to give of your time and talent as well. As you respond to God’s call in the giving of your time, talent, and resources remember if you have a need contact Pastor George.
