brazilian states human development index compared
DESCRIPTION
This is part of a series of maps conceived to facilitate comparisons between Brazil and other countries. As a fast developing country and one of the BRICS, Brazil has drawn more attention from the media in recent years. Yet, the country is largely unknown to the general public worldwide, except for its football, carnival and beaches. The associations with Brazil are generally positive, but the country is also perceived as violent, unfair and corrupt (which are accurate descriptors). It is important to realise that Brazil is a federation of 27 states, bearing resemblance to the American States, but more similar to the German model of governance. It is a country of continental dimensions. It is bigger than Australia, for instance, and the regional differences are big. I hope that these maps help people understand the diversity and the dimensions of the country.TRANSCRIPT
