Since that time,Brave New voices has grown to

represent youth from all across the United States and europe,

making it the largest ongoing spoken word event in the world.

ABoUT THe eveNT

Over 500 trend-setting youth from more than 50 parts of the country participate in the weeklong event.

participants come from most major markets, college towns, Native American reservations and small cities.

There are 25 events over 5 days in multiple venues.

There are 10,000 audience members over the course of the week.

There is online streaming and multi-media presence.

Performances by nationally recognized artists and performers.

National media coverage.

Brave New Voices was created by

Youth Speaks, Inc in 1998 after the inaugural Youth Speaks Teen PoeTry Slam in San Francisco— the first poetry slam dedicated to youth in the nation’s history.

Brave New voices 2008, which took place in washington DC, was featured in a seven part series on HBO entitled Brave New Voices.

Since inception, more and more young poets have been given the opportunity to speak their truths about how the environment—beyond the polar ice caps—effects them in their everyday existence.

poets of the “Green Team” have spoken and performed to mayors from across the country, former president Bill Clinton, Speaker pelosi, Nobel prize winner Bishop Desmond Tutu, robert redford, and the leadership of the Ford Foundation among many other opportunities.

Over 75% of the audience members are 13-39 years old.
