BRANDING GUIDELINES

Diocese of Sheffield | Branding Guidelines
Introduction to the Branding
Consistency in how the Diocese of Sheffield presents itself is very important. All the elements of our identity need to be combined correctly to create maximum impact and communicate effectively a clear and consistent image.
Why use these guidelines? The Diocese of Sheffield must present itself in a way that makes it distinctive and memorable. The branding guidelines in this document set out how this might be achieved. By working together and following a common style, we can create a brand that is has meaning and is instantly recognisable across the diocese.
These guidelines have been produced for use by both The Diocese of Sheffield and any partner organisations. They can be used on a variety of material such as:
• Websites• Postal and e-mail campaigns• Leaflets/Flyers• Press and PR campaigns• Stationery (eg letterheads)• Parish newsletters/magazines• Posters
The Diocese of Sheffield was formed in 1914 and is in the Northern Province of York. It covers Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster and the subsidiary towns and villages of those areas. The Diocesan Board of Finance was formed to manage the financial affairs and hold the assets of the Diocese. It is a company limited by guarantee and registered in England and also a registered charity.
The Diocese of Sheffield is called to grow a sustainable network of Christ-like, lively and diverse Christian communities in every place which are effective in making disciples and in
seeking to transform our society and God’s world.

Diocese of Sheffield | Branding Guidelines
The Diocesan logo is the primary branding element. When used correctly it should look professional and be instantly recognisable.
The Diocese of Sheffield Logo
The logo consists of the words ‘The Diocese of Sheffield’ written below the standard Church of England logo. The whole logo is coloured in ‘Diocesan Purple’ (available from the colour palette on page 8) apart from the word ‘Sheffield’ which is grey.
Departmental variations are also available which have a dividing line followed by the department name (each in a different colour).
The size and position of all elements of the logo is fixed and should never be altered or re-created.

Minimum size
The logo has no maximum size restriction, but it is recommended that for quality of
reproduction and readability it must never be used smaller than 15mm in width, or 30mm
with the departmental strapline.

To ensure the visual impact the logotype requires a minimum area of surrounding clear space in which other type, images and logos cannot appear. This is known as the exclusion zone.

x = width of the word ‘THE’ in the Diocese of Sheffield logo
Always observe at least the minimum clear space around the logotype as shown below.

Whenever possible, the full colour logo should be used, however there are exceptions, such as when the background makes it difficult to read, when other versions may be used.
Choosing the Correct Logo
Black & White - When colour printing is unavailable. Do not use on dark backgrounds.
White - For use on dark coloured backgrounds. Do not use on light backgrounds.

Variations of the logo are available for departmental use, which feature a dividing line followed by the name of the department. If a department requires a logo creating, they should contact the Communications department.

The Diocesan Coat of Arms is only used at the discretion of the Diocesan Bishop and the Diocese of Sheffield. It does not replace the diocesan logo. When displayed with the mitre above the shield, it represents the Diocesan Bishop and nothing else. To represent the Diocese of Sheffield it should be used without the mitre and fringes. Either version of the coat of arms should only be used with the permission of the Diocesan Bishop and the Diocesan Communications department.
