Our partnership logosPartnership graphics have been developed for use when branding communication material relating to our partnership with Rio Tinto (page 24). We encourage our partnership graphics to be used on all our partnership communication material.
When it is not possible to use our partnership graphics the primary logos of both partners can be used. To achieve equal weighting the width of both logos must be the same and used in the correct order as displayed - City of Karratha on the left hand side when used horizontally and at the top when used vertically.
Minimum sizing and clear spaceTo maximise the visual impact of our logos, a minimum size and surrounding clear space is required. The clear space area must be kept free of text, graphics and imagery. When possible, we encourage more than the minimum clear space to be used to increase the visual impact of our logos further.
- Our logos MUST NOT be reproduced at a width less than 32mm
- Our logos MUST be surrounded by a minimum area of ‘X’ clear space - ‘X’ is determined by the height of the box containing the word ‘Karratha’ ensuring the minimum clear space is proportionate to the logo size

Brand guideline | 2014_v1.432
Online standards and guidelinesThe Website Standards and Guidelines suite of documents form part of the Website Governance Framework. Application of the Standards will assist in ensuring:
- Consistency across all WA Government websites
- Increased accessibility and usability of WA Government online information and services
- Reliable and trusted online information and services
However it is important to note that not all websites need to be designed this way. Consider the requirements of your users and your website objectives to determine the best approach. Responsive design is also not a replacement for mobile specific websites. Mobile specific websites tend to provide simplified functionality and are aimed at enabling a user to quickly achieve a goal, for example checking in for a flight or making a payment.
OverviewText and colours used for the website should be consistent across the entire website. When using colour, ensure it will accommodate people with a colour disability. The contrast of text against the background must be sufficiently high to ensure it is legible on both screen and on paper.
When using images, provide meaningful ‘alt’ tags. If using video or animation, provide the text or audio equivalent to ensure the content is accessible by all. Download information (subject matter description, file size, file format, etc.) should also be
provided to help users determine whether they wish to access the video.
Consider designing your website to be resolution-independent as nowadays a website can be viewed on multiple web-enabled devices – such as smartphones, tablets, desktops, etc. Responsive web design will ensure the site will fit the device that it is being viewed from. Depending on which device is being used, it could present a different layout of the website to suit the screen size.
The following standards and guidelines have been provided to assist agencies with the development of WA Government websites.
Website Standards: Common Website Elements – provides a consistent structure for the placement of key web elements on all WA Government websites: http://www.finance.wa.gov.au/cms/uploadedFiles/Government_Procurement/Website_Governance_Framework/wgf_common_website_elements.doc
Web Accessibility: requirements for WA government websites http://www.finance.wa.gov.au/cms/section.aspx?id=16129
WA Government Website Terms of Use statements: designed to assist agencies comply with the legal and regulatory framework when operating WA government websites. http://www.finance.wa.gov.au/cms/uploadedFiles/Government_Procurement/Website_Governance_Framework/wgf_wa_govt_website_terms_of_use.doc
Reference: A series of web guidelines have been produced to provide better practice recommendations on various website topics. These guidelines are intended to act as a ready-reference guide summarising key aspects of website issues. Links to other resources that provide more comprehensive information have been included throughout.
