Hidalgo, Krishia Keannah Jean 1-NUR-11 06/26/12 How important is the brain to our behavior? Our behavior can be affected and influenced by many factors and one of those factors is the brain. The brain is responsible for our movements and our mental thoughts. Mental disorders like Dementia, Insomnia, and Schizophrenia are only a few of the disorders that can affect how we behave in our lives. A disorder that I have closely experienced and observed was OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder because my mother has always had and shown this disorder. I didn’t notice it at first but it slowly became evident when she would not be at ease until everything in our house was the exact way she wanted it. She would ask my brother and I to clean the house and she would not even go to sleep until everything was in order. It also got worse when she was stressed at work or just stressed in general. There was one incident when we were late for an affair and she would not leave the house until the kitchen was clean. This disorder makes her think that everything has to be perfect or neat which then causes her to behave differently from the norm. She behaves that way in order to feel in control, comfortable and at ease. My mother’s case is a good example of how the brain is a big factor on our behaviors because even though my mother may have different reasons why she wants a clean house, it always boils down to her thought processes. Her thought processes and mentality tells her to behave a certain way in order to be complacent or be in a state of sanity.

How important is the brain to our behavior?

Our behavior can be affected and influenced by many factors and one of those factors is the brain. The brain is responsible for our movements and our mental thoughts. Mental disorders like Dementia, Insomnia, and Schizophrenia are only a few of the disorders that can affect how we behave in our lives. A disorder that I have closely experienced and observed was OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder because my mother has always had and shown this disorder. I didn’t notice it at first but it slowly became evident when she would not be at ease until everything in our house was the exact way she wanted it.
