INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION

Page 7: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• In present era we hardly live for 65 years with plenty of diseases right from the 1st decade of life

• But our ancestors had sufficient time to follow the regimen (Dinacharya) whatever described in text. Hence they used to live even beyond 100 years

• The reason for this may be busy schedule, stress, lack of concentration towards personal hygiene, pollution, adaptation of modern techniques etc.

Page 8: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• By following Dinacharya most of these objectives are fulfilled and hence by maintaining it not only brings disease free individual but also disease free society

• Brahme Muhurte Uttishtet is one among the Ayurvedic theories explained in Dinacharya concept which has been attributed

as prevention of health of a healthy person

• Every person in this world must have heard the famous saying of Benjamin Franklin that “ Early to bed early to rise, makes a

man healthy, wealthy and wise”

ASTANGA SANGRAHA:

Page 20: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• SUSRUTA SAMHITA:

• RUTUS IN DINACHARYA

• Begining of the day resembles Vasanta Rutu,

• Midday is dominated by Grishma Rutu,

• Last part of day is under influence of Pravrit Rutu,

• First part of night is dominated by Varsha Rutu,

• Midnight is dominated by Sarad Rutu

• Early morning i.e Brahmi Muhurta is dominated by Hemanta Rutu where the Bala is highest.

• So it is always better to get up in a time when the Bala is

• Uttama than in Vasanta Rutu dominated time, where Kapha Prakopa is seen

CONTD..

Page 21: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• YOGARATNAKAR AND BHAVAPRAKASHA

• He further elaborates that these regimens are performed to prolong lifespan

• The daily regimens are indicated for the following reasons:

Page 39: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

AWAKENINGAWAKENING EARLY IN THE MORNING EARLY IN THE MORNING• One desirous for long healthy life should get up in brahma muhurtha

• One should analyse about the digestion of the food taken previous night and get up in the early morning

• Hemadri commenting on brahma muhurta considers it as just prior to sunrise

• Usually during this time environment is clean without much of pollutants, along with clean air, pleasant atmosphere, absence of noise, the morning rays of sun is very benificial

Page 40: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• The logic and reasoning behind the value of this time is that the Sun starts spreading its Sunlight and energy during this time.

• The rays of this light affect the human brain positively. These rays are light-blue.  (Called ” Neelalohitaha” )   Due to this the cells in the brain get activated.

• The rest of nature is pleasant and peaceful during this time.

• The mind, as has been proved also by Western science, is a powerful tool to awaken and spread electrical and magnetic charges. These uplift the individual who performs meditation and penance during this time.

SIGNIFICANCE OF BRAAHMI MUHURTHAM sreenivasdesabhatla.wordpress.com

Page 41: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• Western experts have agreed that the Sun provides important ingredients to earth such as electrical and magnetic charges which charge the earth and its inhabitants with vital energy.

• It also provides much needed food for plants. And these plants emanate oxygen which is vital for the sustenance of humankind.

• They have also agreed that rising early causes improved blood circulation.

• The lungs are pumped with healthy and fresh air (our ancient sages created the Yoga and pranayama thousands of years ago to benefit from this).

Page 42: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• When you go for a walk in the early morning, your mind will be  working in ideal conditions and you find answers to your problems since the brain is calm.

• In the night, the atmosphere gets re-charged and in the early morning, the wind is charged with the beneficial rays of the Moon and Stars. This wind is called ‘Veera vayu’  which is greatly beneficial to us.

• Our minds are sharpened and inspired and our bodies are filled with a new life-force.

• It is a little difficult to rise at 4.30 a.m., but if you can go to bed by 9 p.m. or 9.30 p.m., you can get up early.

EFFECT ON DOSHASEFFECT ON DOSHAS

Brahma Muhurta, it’s Time to Wake Up!by Nithyananda Times on August 10, 2013 in Siddha & Ayurveda, Vedic Renaissance

Page 46: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• During a given 24 hour period there are two time segments for each dosha as follows:

• 6:am to 10:00 am – kapha10:00 am to 2:00 pm – pitta2:00 pm to 6:00 pm – vata

• 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm – kapha10:00 pm to 2:00 am – pitta2:00 am to 6:00 am – vata2:00 am to 6:00 am – vata

Page 47: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• Because of the time frames, the very first activity of the daily routine, i.e. rising, should be done shortly before sunrise in the vataperiod.

• Vata is the principle of movement, so to wake up in this period ensures that vata principle will be functioning to help in the elimination of wastes from the body.

• It is also the quietest time of day. For this reason it is also the best period for prayer and meditation.

• Waking up any later than sunrise imbalances the kapha dosha in the body.

• The effects of this dis-balance can be observed physically as an increased tendency to get upper respiratory disorders, constipation or incomplete elimination of wastes from the intestines , general lethargy and fatigue.

• Fifty four normal healthy male volunteers, with ages ranging from 16-22 years from a residential school were selected.

•They were randomly allocated to two groups (Brahma-muhurtha and control).

• They were assessed on day 1, day 10 and day 20 of the intervention, using a digit letter substitution task and verbal and spatial memory task.

• The Brahma-muhurtha group were asked to rise before 4:30 am in the morning based on the traditional Indian astrological calculations,

• while the control group were allowed to wake up just before 7 am which was their regular timing for waking..

Page 52: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• DIGIT-LETTER SUBSTITUTION TASK (DLST) DIGIT-LETTER SUBSTITUTION TASK (DLST)

• The digit-letter substitution task comprised of a worksheet on which digits (1to 9) were arranged randomly in 12 rows and 8 columns (10). An instruction key for “letter-for-digit” substitution was given at the top. Participants were required to make as many letter-for-digit substitutions as possible in 90 seconds.

• VERBAL AND SPATIAL MEMORY TESTVERBAL AND SPATIAL MEMORY TEST

• The verbal and spatial memory tests (12) were conducted by projecting the test material on a screen, allowing 10 sec. for each slide. After the 10 slides were shown, a mathematical problem (e.g., + 8 – 4 + 9 – 3 + 6 – 5 – 7 + 2) was projected. Immediately

after this, the subjects were asked to recall and write down within 60 sec.

Page 53: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• Brahma-muhurtha group after 20 days showed a significant improvement in the net scores for digit letter substitution taskas well as scores for verbal and spatial memory tasks.

• The control group (which got up after sunrise) showed no change in the digit-letter substitution task as well as scores for verbal and spatial memory tasks.

• The present study suggests that rising early in the morning as described in ancient Indian tradition influences the process of attention and can improve the ability to recall.

MY MY CONCLUSIONCONCLUSION

Page 55: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• In present era busy schedule, stress, lack of concentration towards personal hygiene, pollution, adaptation of modern techniques

Page 56: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• All these act as etiological factors for diseases and reduce the life span.

• For the primary prevention of the diseases, individual immunity, adopting specific protective measures, improving personal hygiene and social hygiene are the means.

• By following Dinacharya most of these objectives are fulfilled and hence by maintaining it not only brings disease free individual but also disease free society

• Regular practice of it will prevent many today’s lifestyle problems.

Page 57: Brahma muhurthe(awakening in early morning)

• So ………

• One should get up early in the morning before sunrise

• Early Morning is considered as the best time to worship God and getting knowledge, to start the day with this sincere prayer
