Success Strategies Parents & Students Have Shared with Us:
Electronic devices need their own bed● Have a place where all family
members charge their devices at night.
● Buy an alarm clock ● Set a specific time for digital
“shut off”According to studies conducted by Stanford Medical Center, 87% of U.S. teens suffer from sleep deprivation.
The Great Homework Battle
● Check Progress Book● There is always homework that can be
done (independent reading, studying).● No student should be sitting for hours
each night working on homework.● Guiding support for seeking help.
Parents as Partners● Students need (and crave) help, support, guidance● MS is the time when many parents back away from
helping their child; some students give mixed messages as they strive for independence, but are also unsure about how to handle many situations
● It is helpful to give students opportunities to make decisions, to provide guidance and advice, and also to allow natural consequences to follow
● It is important for parents to talk with their child about life’s disappointments and triumphs
Parents as Partners: Tech Tools
● We have tech tools to help parents learn more about our school/district and to facilitate communication
● Teachers have voicemail and email. Please allow a 24-hour response time.
● Grades are posted to Progress Book. Parents have 24-hour access to grades and assignments.
We have the ability to email parents with important announcements, reminders and just-in-time information.

Talk to Adults
Our goal is to support students throughout their experiences at Brady MS.● If you are struggling with an issue and you don’t
know what to do, talk to an adult.● If you hear about something that could hurt
someone, talk to an adult.● If someone is threatening you, bullying you, or
making you feel unsafe in any way, talk to an adult.
Safety & Security
● Building Security Measures● Sign in & Sign Out Procedures
● Do not make arrangements for your child via text. If he//she is not feeling well have your child report to the clinic. The nurse will call you if you child needs to leave school due to illness.
● Change in dismissal procedures (riding another bus, walking to the library, or parent pick-up) should be done via a phone call, note or email directly to Linda Bitzer.
● Safety Drills and Training● Go-to Adults● Discreet reporting options for reporting threats, bullying or dangerous
situations● email teachers, guidance, school psychologist, and/or
administration
Reporting threats, bullying or dangerous situations after school hours
If you or your child are aware of information that you feel could be dangerous to your child or others you should call the Safe Schools Hotline. This hotline will make sure that the message gets to a live person at Orange City Schools, so that the information can be acted on immediately.
You can also notify the local Police department of the information.
Do NOT leave information regarding an urgent situation on staff voice mails or emails.
Safe School Hotline Students, who wish to anonymously report a threat, bullying,
or dangerous situation, can call the Safe School Hotline at: 800-418-6423 Ext. 359
