Dyeing & Felting: How do you prepare wool for felt and

color using natural dyes? Pat Case & Jill Fluck will guide you

from sheep to a crafty felt project to commemorate a great

day in the wilds at Pisgah.

Essential Oils 101: Discover the basics of essential oils—

why they work and which oils to start with. Ditch the

chemicals from your home and live a natural lifestyle! Join

Davina Dunlap, a wellness advocate of Young Living prod-

ucts for a chat on how to take control of your life!

*Flyfishing: Can you make a tied fly act like a bug? Practice

the techniques and skills of flyfishing then hone your skills

on Stephen Foster Lake. Instructor Pete Lawrence owns

Black Lab Flies near Mansfield, PA.

*GPS: Find some geocaches while learning the ins and

outs of a GPS, including how it could save you from an un-

comfortable situation in the wild. Join members of the

Towanda Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla for this session.

Less Clutter, More Freedom: Do you feel like you’re

just a “stuff manager”? Stressed by the state of your home?

How do you calm the chaos and find freedom? Less stuff

means more time and financial freedom! Homeschooling

mama Jess Roberts’ “I’ve been there!” perspective will guide

your journey to freedom!

Lyme Disease: It is estimated by the CDC that there are

300,000 new cases of Lyme disease every year. Do not

become part of that statistic! Join A Hope 4 Lyme to learn

about tick-borne diseases and how to prevent getting bit-

ten. Bring your questions!

*New Life Spinning®: Bring the outdoor cycling experi-

ence to a pavilion overlooking the lake! Set up a bike, ride

movements and incorporate heart rate monitors—wear

sneakers! Spinning® is a nationwide phenomenon—taught

by certified instructors Darla Monroe & Lu Ann Knapp.

*Shooting Events: Shotguns, .22 rifles, black powder &

handguns all together! Learn about the different types of

sporting arms, ammunition, and proper gun fit from ex-

perts. Shoot at targets and clay birds on our shooting

range! Our NRA certified instructors will demonstrate

proper safety techniques.

Soapstone Carving: Discover an unique way to relieve

stress with this easily carved stone used by the Native peo-

ple since the dawn of mankind. Take home your own soap-

stone carving creation! Inga Wells, a WITW volunteer &

rock expert, will lead this session.

All women, ages 14 & up, are invited to attend our

18th annual Women in the Wilds event

Choose from the following courses & indicate your

*Archery & Crossbow: Discover how to fit and select

archery equipment, with basic shooting instruction and

target practice. Treestand safety will also be discussed.

Women who have equipment may bring it! Up in Arms

Shooting Supplies Staff in East Smithfield, PA will instruct.

*Barn Quilts: Design a 12” x 12” wooden Ohio Star quilt

block with symmetrical cherry, maple and walnut wooden

pieces. Join Ralph Wilston to design a work of art to hang

on your wall or give as a gift!

Basket Weaving: Weave ponderosa, longleaf, and other

varieties of pine needles to create a small coil basket or

coaster. Shirley Fuller & Carol Lukovich will be demon-

strating this lost art of Native Americans.

*Canoe/Kayak/Paddleboards: After you learn about

the types and styles of equipment used, you’ll enjoy prac-

ticing paddle stroke techniques and the implementation of

safety procedures as you head out on Stephen Foster Lake.

Endless Mountains Outfitters of Sugar Run, PA will guide!

*Chainsaw Safety: Operate a chainsaw from start to

finish & then even cut a tree, with an emphasis on safety

and maintenance! Richie Herman & Greg Wilcox of

Claverack REC will lead this session! You must wear

boots (steel-toed recommended) to use saw—other per-

sonal protective equipment will be provided!

Cheesemaking: Whole milk to cheese in less than an

hour? Discover the steps needed to make mozzarella—

right in your own kitchen, and discuss harder cheeses too!

Amanda Kennedy of Backroad Creamery will lead this

session.

Dreamcatchers: Discover the Native American tradi-

tions behind dreamcatchers and then create your own

using natural materials such as fur, bones and feathers!

Mimi Eaton, WITW volunteer will facilitate this fun session.

Survival: What would happen if you did lose your way or

were injured in the wild? Could you build a shelter, fix a fire &

find food? In this course, you can learn several skills to sustain

yourself in the outdoors. Instructor Pat Beebe is a Vietnam

Veteran of the US Army, & a lifelong outdoor enthusiast.

Vegan Cooking: A vegan does not eat meat or dairy prod-

ucts. If you are open to culinary adventures, this plant-based

diet class in the heartland of cattle & dairy farming is for you!

You will learn basic vegan nutrition, tofu uses and meatless

alternatives. Join Katie Replogle & Chris Eng, long-time

WITW volunteers to sample vegan cooking!

Wisdom of the Wilds: Nature provides numerous signs for

personal reflection. Using the Top Ten list for Mt. Pisgah, we

will explore the wisdom found in common species. Discover

the wild wisdom with Suzann Schiemer, a retired educator &

full time nature lover!

*Women in your Woods: What do you see in your

woods? In this blitz course on Forest Stewardship, you will

learn tree ID, how to measure a tree & find out what it’s

worth. Discover whether your woods are healthy & find out

when or how to harvest your woods! Robert Hansen is re-

cently retired as a Penn State Extension forester.

*Many of these workshops do require walking, driv-

ing or hitchhiking between Poolside, Lakeside, and

Confirmation / Cancellation

Workshops will be filled according to when your registration is

received. A confirmation letter with directions to Mt. Pisgah

State Park will be mailed/emailed to you upon receipt of your

registration form & workshop fee.

The cancellation deadline is July 15, 2017. If you cancel after

the deadline, you will be responsible for the full program fee.

Registration refunds are subject to a $20 processing fee.
