Case Study | Generic Structure for business Process Modeling

Introduction Basically Generic structure for business process provides two methodologies for modeling of any business, a. One way is that adopt a generic structure for business process modeling which have a variety of

concerns about process and several layers of concept. b. Another way is adopt a generic structure for business process modeling that minimizes the

barriers in between process presentation and model analysis through applying verification and validation of model.

BPR attractiveness raise in 1990 after publication of book of Hammer, Champy and Davenport regarding business process reengineering and related case studies. By this book many organizations took the benefit and enhance their process productivity as well reengineered their existing process from ‘as_ is’ to ‘to_be’ process. At one side BPR reputation raises but at another side many people thought about BPR is a failure; according to estimation 70% people believe on this as a failure. According to them BPR doesn’t come originally until there will some process, it only generates new process.

The main and common purposes of BPR are; to model the existing process (As_Is) to new process (To_Be).

Business Process Model (BPM) is vital with in the BPR life cycle. The main task of BPM is To manage the existing process in actual sequence ( with presentation of all activities with

all details) To make a new process in order to achieve the productivity improvement in the existing

process.

BPM having various features like analyzing & evaluating of any business process and after evaluation provide the best substitute.

For the evaluation and alternative analysis there are many computer applications are available to use this and get the best solution. But due to availability of so many choices in application user get confused which application is suitable for their process? To clear that confusion and identification the difference in between these application few researcher did work on this and dedicate some research paper to avoid this problem.

The first goal of this research paper is to compare the various BPM methods ( in order to identify the difference emphases among them) and second is trying to develop a generic business process model ( which utilizes necessary part of process and incorporate other functions) For this there are many processes; following are few ;

a. (PADM) which described by Wastell in 1996 and according to him process defined and evaluate in following manner;

i) Process defining (As it is )ii) Baseline process control and presentation iii) Evaluation iv) Design the desire process from which the desire output can be taken.

b. PRLC ()which described by Kettinger in 1995 and according to him process defined and evaluate in following manner;

i) Foresee the process changes ii) Inaugurating (investing) iii) Identificationiv) Re – designing v) Re – structuring

c. BPR Frame Work which described by Mayerr in 1995 and according to him process defined and evaluate in following manner;

1) BPR principle 2) BPR process3) BPR methods and tools

d. BPR Stages which described by Davenport in 1993 and according to him process defined and evaluate in following manner;

i) Identifying the problem for changes (i.e innovation) ii) Identifying changes levers iii) Developing process visioniv) Describe the existing process (As_Is process) v) Design the prototype model for new described process (To_Be process)

e. BPR Stages which described by Knettinger in 1997 and according to him process defined and evaluate in following manner;

i) Envision of the processii) Initiateiii) Diagnose iv) Redesign v) Restructurevi) Evaluate

Above mentioned methods described the business process modeling methods in various aspects and means and from all that processes we concluded;

A business process has its customers A business process is composed of activities These activities are aimed at creating value for customers Activities are operated by actors which may be human or machines And a business process often involved several organizational units which are responsible for

a whole process. (as per Davenport , Hammer & Champy _ 1993 )

From above approaches we can easily distinguish between processes that some are activities based and some are object based.
