Does the Unified Model require HANA?

YES BW 7.40 SP05 or higher and HANA are requirements for the unified

model.

Is PAK required?

YES Can I migrate from BPC 10 Classic Model to the Unified Model?

Not really – you can leverage your design and process to some extent but

moving to the unified model will require a significant amount of rebuild.

Can I migrate my BW-IP Model to the Unified Model?

YES – Since IP is at the core of the Unified model you can leverage much

of what you have and then need to set up the BPC security and

reporting.

FAQ

Page 12: Bpc 10.1 Unified Model Asug May 7 2014

What skills are required to implement the Unified Model?

BW – Data Modeling / Design

Bex – Development for IP (Input forms / reports)

BW/IP – Planning Model Development / FOX

BPC – Administration and Report / Input Form Development Development

HANA – SQL (For custom functions) Does the Unified Model use BPC Script / FOX / ABAP?

As the backend of the unified model is IP. FOX is the formula language

used in the Unified Model. Additionally all custom functions previously

written in ABAP are now written directly on HANA SQL. .

FAQ - II

Page 13: Bpc 10.1 Unified Model Asug May 7 2014

When should I use a Unified Model vs a Classic Model?

It depends!

Some models lend themselves better to unified (sales planning etc)

Do you already have large IP/BPS footprint and you would like to

leverage BPC usability and PAK?

Data Integration – do you have a need for tightly integrated data with

BW?

IT vs. Business ownership – Unified models require more IT ownership

as the underlying structures are more firmly based in BW. Classic BPC

gives the business more control over their solution.
