Tena Koutou, e hoa ma. Nga mihi nui kia koutou. Dear Parents, Caregivers and friends of the school. The last ten days have been a sad and reflective time. The nation has been overwhelmed in so many ways since the Christchurch earthquake. On Tuesday as we joined the country in two minutes silence it was evident from the way that the children participated that they too have been saddened by the events and understood the enormity of this tragedy. The Red and Black mufti day this week was a fantastic success. As you can see below the children got right into the spirit of the day. $1,445 was raised and when you consider the fact there is 198 children at the school we certainly had some very generous donations. Thanks to all of you who took the time to come along to the ‘Meet the Teacher Evening’. The teachers enjoyed meeting you all and I enjoyed presenting about Mathematics. If you missed the presentation there is a link to the presentation and the handout on the school website in the curriculum tab. All the best to our students who started their journey towards the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday night, please keep these children and their families in you prayers.
God Bless, Mike Dowd (Principal)

Starship Mobile Phone Recycling Appeal
Do Something Good with a Mobile Phone!
St Joseph’s has recently registered for the Starship School Swap Phones for Rewards programme. The “Phones for Rewards” programme enables students to play a valuable role in a nationwide fundraising campaign for Starship’s Air Ambulance Service, while also in-creasing their awareness of environmental issues, community giving and having some fun along the way. The good news is that our school gets to benefit too.
The programme works by our school co-ordinating the collection of as many old mobile phones as possible. These phones are donated to the programme and then Starship Children’s Hospital, together with its recycling partner, can turn these old phones into cash to help children from all around the country. Depending on how many phones our school collects, there are some exciting rewards we can claim, including interactive whiteboards, projectors, PCs, books, handycams, sports gear and cameras. Your child may be asked to collect unwanted mobile phones from family, friends, the local community or other contacts. Any make or model of phone is acceptable – as long as permission is sought from the phone’s owner first. The more phones our students collect, the more rewards we can earn for our school. We look forward to your child’s/children’s participation in this worthwhile programme. A collection box is situated in the School reception area.
