Preston started calf roping on a small AQHA gelding named “Rizzo”. Rizzo was 4 years old and came from a feed lot somewhere in West Texas. Preston and Rizzo have came a long way in four years. Preston won his first saddle competing at the New Mexico NBHA’s (National Barrel Horse Association) running barrels on Rizzo. This saddle sits on a saddle rack in the house, because he is to embarrassed to ride in it because he won it barrel racing. His mom made him run barrels because she felt that it would make him a better rider. Preston just won the Eddy County Junior Rodeo ALL-Around for his age group and he also won the Open All-Around for 2008. Preston is the Lea County Rodeo Association Champion for 2008. He was the breakaway champion for the New Mexico State 4-H Rodeo in 2007.
